The horrible music was loud and I cringed each time he mispronounced French names, but I loved getting all the info on Gerard. He's a great actor and I've been watching him since the 80s (he's only two years older than me). I love watching him. As a matter of fact, I just watched "Green Card" for the 6th time tonight. That's what made me come looking for him here. Thank you for this very good mini doc. on Gerard .
The first thing I ever saw him in was Going Places, which definitely had many autobiographical elements. For the film Green Card, he learned most of his lines phonetically. Critics at the time stated that, even though he barely spoke English, his performance was way better than his co-star Andie MacDowell's. The audience I saw the film with laughed openly many times at how bad her line deliveries were. It was a great introduction for Gerard to American audiences, though.
So the narrator took on the job, but it never occurred to him - before he started recording - to check out the pronunciation of French names and words? Are you kidding me?
Depardieu, since I was 10 when I began to go to the cinema (in the provinces I could see the "prohibited under 13s" covered by my parents' absolution.) has remained at the very forefront of French cinema. Even if I always - and by a lot - preferred Patrick Dewaere, the Depardieu who faced Robert de Niro in Bertolucci's 1900 was still a hell of an actor. But let's move on. The Depardieu of the films with .B Blier, Preparez vos mouchoirs and, more than anything, Buffet froid (a masterpiece for me, with Berrnard blier, father of the director, Michel Serrault, one the greatest french actor of the last forty years and Jean Carmet, splendid as supporting actor), was a splendid actor. He dominated (with Dewaere! I care) French cinema for almost twenty years. But for quite a while now, he hasn't been filming anything good and has become a caricature of himself. I prefer not to talk about his dirty stories which the courts are currently looking into. But just from a cinematographic point of view, what a shame! he did not know how to choose his roles, by wanting to reign alone over French cinema, he sterilized himself, taking on all the projects, even the worst. Today, I'm afraid he's in trouble. As for his déclaration on Putin, what can we say? Provocation? unconsciousness? does he want to meet the “greats” (meh) of this world? that's his business, but what a shame. And what a spit in the face of authentic heroes like Politkovskaya. Ah, Cyrano, the real one, would not have acted like this... Now...there remains Depardieu, the man who gave birth to his mother alone, who earned his living at 13 by trading with American soldiers on surplus goods (no one was really robbed), the guy who had never read a book at 18 and who now does shows on the confessions of Saint Augustine. In many ways, he's a monster. But this is also what makes him unique, different from all those who have not had to suffer and fight.

Yankees don't give a shit for other languages...
the proper pronunciation of his name is important when making a documentary
You beat me to it.
the proper understanding of what a documentary is important when talking about documentaries
Depardoo 😂
I agree. It's annoying hearing him pronounce the names Depardieu and Alain wrong. Not a serious video maker.
Loved this. I did not know he was in so many movies I never heard of. Time to start watching them:)

Yes, many were so mangled! I struggled to recognise Catherine Deneuve.. surely one of the easier surnames...
He is one of my all-time favorite actors--I've never seen him in a movie where his role was not believeable and superbly-acted!
Green card and My Father the Hero are definitely my favs. ☺️
The way his name was pronounced made me cringe
Haha so true :D
I guess we can’t expect that much of Americans, when it comes to other languages haha
Man was around, doing everything & everybody.
Loved him in Green Card. So funny when he talked about peeing on the plane
You'd think the narrator would learn to pronounce French names and words before he started recording. Very unprofessional.
The background music in the video is frustrating really..
Forget all the Hollywood shite he made its his long career in French cinema that is just incredibly brilliant
Fantastique Acteur ✨👌 le choix des armes est un film Magnifique . Idem le film Jean de Florette, merveilleuse prestation .Homme passionner 💖
Green Card! Love that movie! Just Love! ♥
Very good informative video!

my favorite is not even mentioned _Columbus 1492
Very active person!
Deepardoo.......lol
I understand this is not your language, honestly no problem, but please try to pronounce his name correctly. I am just saying try.
There are other movies that you didn't mention. When he was young he was a gigolo.
Also we need hours to make a documentary about him.
Why did he say “black model” ?
