@@RyTrapp0yeah I would have just been good with running a 9 if I was Kyle pushing it to run an 8 was too hard on that clutch and driveline after you do one drag week and spend enough time fixing stuff you learn it's more fun to just run a little dialed back and make it to every track😂 at least at my age that's what I'd rather do..

It certainly can't be easy putting this quality of content on the internet AND racing cream puff down the multiple tracks.

The budget challenge was the stupidest thing ever. These guys are real professionals don't stoop them down to cleetus's level.
They'd have to join the $75,000 dollar challenge at this point, but it's probably my favorite build on sick week.....for those of us who could never afford a camaro or a Chevell or a Nova....a S 10 is right down my alley

Hey. If your engine doesnt have a thermostat in it the coolant will cavitate at higher rpms and overheat. Just cut the guts out of one and install the disc. It should solve your over heating issue

Another tip is add timing into the advance for cruising. The engineers of old understood and designed it into distributors for a reason. If you see headers glowing at 2000 rpm its a pretty strong sign as well.
When watching Ricky shift, it looks like he bumped the shifter twice straight through to 3rd..

He did indeed just needs to trust the programming. Didn't even sound like it was at 6500 rpm yet when he stabbed the handle and knocked it right through to 3rd gear as it was clearly just about to shift 2nd gear
If you are referring to the 8.78 pass, you can see he was covering it just in case, but did not actually shift it.
I had a fight trying to get mine situated and its just a cheap Speedmaster ($800 after all the stuff needed) because of what is required to get it sorted out.
They need to set the RPM lower and so it shifts on RPM ONLY. But if they are blowing through that converter, it's just going to sit high up in the rpm's anyways.
I thought I was seeing the same thing, he bumped it 2 or 3 times.

Converter seems fine. It’s going straight from 1st to 3rd. You need to set up the shifter as time based along with rpm based bc there’s always a delay in a th400. So for example, when the shift rpm is 7500 1-2 & 7800 2-3, the output shifts it but still might be in 1st & be at 7800 so it thinks it needs to shift again & goes straight to 3rd. I had that happen to me before so now I have it rpm & time. It will never shift into 3rd unless I’m 4 seconds into the run.
Definitely seemed that way on the second pass in the video. Couldn't tell if he pushed the shifter to 3rd or not, but you could see the shifter move on its own in the last recorded pass.

That thing is blowing through that converter so bad.... been there and done this... only way you will see it is when you turn it up and MPH doesn't respond accordingly but you will definitely be able to tell in the truck
@ they turned it up & it went from 151 to 158. That convertor sounds just right, it probably needs to be spun higher for the shift to drop more rpm if that’s their concern. I’m sure an HED motor can handle way more than 7500 especially with the valve train that things got.
@BmoreFox man 7 mph in a truck geared for 1000' isnt much with the same 60' with a 4l80e it should run out the back door with a stupid MPH I put one in my cobra 3 months ago and the trans ratio makes it pull so much harder on the big end still testing it though so not many multiple repeatable data passes on it yet
Hey guys... FYI
You need to cut the inside of that old thermostat out and reinstall it or get a new one. The system needs the restriction so the coolant has enough time in the radiator to actually cool down.

Its a badass truck. I love it. Once its all ironed out, thing is gonna be mean. Its the perfect build to, not overly expensive, but not cheap. Got a great powerplant, looks clean. Just an overall nice truck.

@@CJRaceCars make radiators on the front off the trailer with dry/break lines to the truck ,so you have all the cooling on the drives

And I was worried you were not going to get the truck done in time. Congratulations, finishing the week is winning!!! On that 9.4 second pass, Ricky did not have it punched till about the 1000' mark. You can hear it in the video. But you can check it in the data logger also. I am real impressed with how fast you built the truck and how good it was. It will be better for Sick Summer. I want to see you at my local track, Tuesday, June 17 - Day Two, Great Lakes Dragaway.
Truck looks so good. Low, going fast awesome. Gotta talk to Old Man Garage or Billy from Street Race Channel. They been running rear mount rad on Billy’s truck forever no heating issues. Should keep that truck around for having fun. Get the dash and stereo hooked back up maybe so AC LOL. Killing it guys.

Great Job, maybe a Swirl Pot in the engine bay to bleed the coolant system, and raise the Parachute or holes in the tailgate to get air in the 'chute ... Looking good for it's 4th pass ...

Lookin good guys. Need a Pre-Flight check list like an aircraft! Tape it to the dash, use big letters, you will fall into a pattern.

Never seen it so complicated to go click click on a shifter in my life lol, even with CO2 shifters i always had my hand there ready in case it didn’t shift. If you need more than one hand to drive thats a bigger issue😂😂. Glad to see good passes coming together though
I think you hit that shifter twice. That's why I went from first to third. Maybe it's just me but you seem confused behind the wheel Like maybe the cars out driving you

I think what was throwing him off was how he was pedaling it and even when it does shift when you lift and barley get back on the gas he’s not getting back in it hard enough for the converter to catch back up. That’s just how they feel / sound with a looser converter. He thinks it’s not shifting but it probably was.
Does it have a standard ls water pump? The ls uses a unique thermostat: 2 stage / extended. Good luck. low timing at cruise conditions hurts temp especially if rich mixture.

Next improvement will be a gear vendors overdrive so you're not driving at 40 mph on the highways lol. But you're doing great so far, don't feel any regrets as it's your first time in many years & CreamPuff is new, you haven't worked it all out to get the best out of it yet.
You definitely need a GEAR VENDOR OVERDRIVE on that. 😂
