  • Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Staff Sergeant Brooke McRoberts, campers, Elder John Rice (Wasauksing First Nation), retired OPP Sergeant George Couchie and OPP Inspector Marcel Beaudin share their perspectives on Niigan Mosewak, a leadership camp for Indigenous youth.
Facilitated by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Indigenous Policing Bureau, with the support of community, and participation of leaders, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers, the camp focuses on life promotion, self-confidence, team building and health and wellness for Indigenous youth aged 13 to 17 years old. The camp is delivered in partnership with the Anishinabek Nation 7th Generation Charity, Redtail Hawk Training & Consulting, and with funding support from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. Niigan Mosewak, or “Walking Forward” in Ojibway, is delivered in the spirit of reconciliation and is one small way the OPP can contribute to building and improving relationships with Indigenous communities.
