I just arrived here and the comments talk about trolls and haters. Have they all left? I haven't seen any negativity. Not that it matters. This is outstanding. All great people will attract haters. You're doing something wrong if no jealous hater pipes up once in a while.
When I was a child & the power would go out on dark, stormy nights- as my mother would light some candles, my father would sit & tell me and my siblings ghost stories. Your narrations always incite those childhood memories of shivering pleasure & anticipating frightfulness. The delightful chats & musings at the end give it a warm, intimate & personal feel that make your story renditions stand out & above all the rest. Thanks for all your work, Tony

It’s a brave thing to read some of these stories, and “Green tea” is a good example. It perhaps takes a more thoughtful sort of person to delve into and gain enjoyment from such tales, and in a world of cheap Horror, there are any number of people who may think these stories “old fashioned” and not remotely relevant to today. From the the more Academic point of view, apart from the enjoyment, anyone interested in gothic tales and the supernatural will be glued to channels such as this.
I listen in the Bath, especially in the Winter, when I can turn the hot water on for a “top up” with my toe!
I love Le Fanu. "Schalken the Painter" is a personal favorite. I have read and listened to it more times than I can count.
Just listened to that last night! Where the painter wants to merry his teacher’s ward, but a dark stranger comes and offers a ton of gold…. That it? She shows up bedraggled and terrified and begs not to be left alone? Was quite bleak! 🧛🏿🧛🏻♀️🥀
This one was creepy! And I drink green tea, but I doubt it has much metaphysical abilities since it’s bought from the supermarket. Oh, and I don’t know why people get so puffed up about your reading a woman’s character, Scottish character (even you’re very close to one), or any other. Always love your narration. Do not bother with them and don’t change a thing. Thank you!

These are my rainy day and goodnight stories. I have been introduced to many stories and authors i have not heard before and enjoyed many i already know but haven't read all the stories of. The narration is easy to understand... English is not my native tongue... even if the sentences are long and winding and some wording is perhaps a little archaic. A good way of expanding the vocabulary. The library of stories are excellent. Both ghost stories and other gothic tales and the folk-horror, mythological flavoured and generally weird tales.. Do keep them coming.!❣️

Hey bloke. Listened to the end . Cultural appropriation, what bullshit. So I can't eat pizza, tacos, nachos, Chinese food etc. Is it Cultural appropriation for Asian countries to wear suits or ties. Is it Cultural appropriation or Colonialism that the international language for pilots is English? All 1st World problems. If people want to be hero's and save the world they should become nurses or doctors and work in A & E, join the Military Police Fire or Ambos with they are prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for what they believe. I think Tony has the right voice for fireside reading.. however there are times it does matter whether its a man or a woman reading.. it dies not matter whether written by a man or woman but times the narrator within the story needs to be read by the identified sex.
“Let go & get off!” I’d say to the rubbish rummagers looking for something to dig up to support their neurotic injustice of the past, to rectify the present, by huge poo-flinging of any future endeavor by others...it seems a kind of jealous envy of others having self confidence to share (however imperfect it may be from current inane politicalCORrEct zealots- no one told them diversity makes the world beautiful & unique!).

There is simply nothing better than a British, Gentleman with a clear crisp, brilliant voice, sharing a great Ghost tale and then having a warm chat, with many friends, after the reading. Removes some of the lingering chill of the Ghostly theme. And my hot cup of Earl Grey/

Ah 😌 I finally got around to this one, all thanks to Tony’s silver tongue! Been meaning to actually read it for years now, though I doubt I would have enjoyed it quite so much on my own. Tony, I believe you could read statistics on weather to us and I would be content - but, with a writer like yourself or Sheridan LeFanu you create a decadent indulgence!

I love this story! One of my favorites. I read somewhere that excessive drinking of green tea actually does have some odd effects on the brain but probably not the sort in this tale.

Tony~~I absolutely love any story you narrate. I get so fed up hearing about 'cultural appropriation' issues where there are NONE! My brain works perfectly fine, and if the person speaking in the story is a woman, then the story goes along in my head in a woman's voice.~~ it's called 'using your imagination'!!! You do a wonderful job bringing these stories to life and people need to get a grip, and stop finding fault where there isn't any. Move along kArEn, give your seat up for someone that knows how to appreciate a good storyteller.

Lovely long ramble on this one! I agree. The story wasn’t my favorite but interesting all the same. I recently watched a movie based on the ideas of Swedenborg that was pretty good! It’s called Things Heard and Seen.
I think after I'd done this one, I visited London and found myself outside the Swedenborg Institute. It was locked down though so I didn't go in.

I was thinking that the monkey must be some kind of 'shadow self', maybe reflecting unconscious doubts the clergyman had about the religious doctrines he was teaching - so got that completely wrong! 🤣

I have to admit the concept of a malicious monkey constantly staring at me would be really creepy.......
What I'd like people who say that "men should not be reading/narrating works written by women" is, why would you not want your stories read/narrated by men? Same thing applies to people who assign the vocal reading of works by other nationalities as cultural appropriation. What is the point of writing a story for only one "type" of person to read/narrate? It makes no sense. This is one of the reasons that I am thankful that I live in the "3rd world". Here, we have real problems and issues to discuss. 😅
When you read the New Testament, there's plenty of verses dealing with "demons/spirits". It's throughout the New Testament where JESUS and the Disciples/Apostles healed people from or dealing with demons/spirits. The boy with the demon who apparently had seizures but would also throw himself into a fire or water, etc. The Bible states that "JESUS healed him from this spirit of infirmity. The woman with the bleeding problem had a "spirit". Or the man on the road saying his name was Legion because there were many. What's even more interesting is when a demon announced that he knew JESUS as the Son of GOD but didn't recognize the person trying to heal him. Meaning this demon knew of the faith of JESUS but if you aren't deeply involved in your faith and a true believer, the demon will question you.
At last time, to give this marvelous tale the time it deserves. Thank you, Tony, your channel continues to broaden my horizon, introducing writers I otherwise would not have met. Masterful presentation and interesting commentary. You are brilliant in what you do! Again, again, thank you. Please continue.

Regarding the cultural appreciation radicalism... Anyone who says you can't narrate a book because it is written by a woman or written by someone from another country, etc is insane. (1) you aren't appropriating anything. You tell us who the author is so we as listeners can look the author up and read more of their work should we be desirous towards that end.
Please keep doing the good work you are doing and ignore the cultural appreciation radicals. I just stumbled upon your RUclips channel and it is 10 out of 10 in my opinion. Your efforts to provide a quality product for your listeners is apparent.

Great story. We would probably call this schizophrenia today. Green tea is one of the most powerful antioxidants/anticancer tonics we have researched these days.
I have no idea why people get all self-righteous about things they know little or nothing about and, instead of scrolling on, they feel they must send a rant to you. We obviously find much pleasure in your reading and I hope you (and since this was two plus years ago now, you must) discount these naysayers and carry on.

Thanks Tony. I agree with what you say about the story structure. It's complex enough that I've enjoyed listening to it several times now, focusing on different aspects. Perfect as I'm stuck in side due to still another snowstorm. I guess I get some of my old fashioned taste in stories from my grandparents, born in the 19th century because I love these stories not publishable today. They always gave me books and loved mysteries and spooky stories. Sounds like I will be adding "The Weird and Eerie" to my reading list.

I believe this theory regarding green tea. I cuddled up with a blanket and my pot of green tea to listen you your beautiful treatment of Le Fanu. Within seconds of my getting comfy, two demons were sitting on top of me. It happens every time I enjoy book time. My cure for these terrors was to name one Jack and the other one Shadow.
This poor vicar should have taken the monkey to the vet...it's done world of good for Jack and Shadow.

The imagery of that horrible little demon has always made me afraid of dark corners.

I Love All Your Stories and I Love the sound of your voice. People that comment negatively have NO understanding of British story telling nor Authors of the past. It's your narration that places us deep into the story itself. I guess they believe you should be narrating comic books on high speed and drama.

I like the additional spectral effects. Goes well with the theme of course, the music and your intro words. I am sure I "knew" this once, but it's so "personal" to listen to somebody who can act, make the characters come alive- my mind wanders when I read, so if I listen to you, I can get the story, really enjoy the vocabulary, close my eyes and go into a dream...Namaste
I was having a chat with my daughter about audiobooks and she listens while she's working. She says it makes stories accessible to her. I like audio stories too. I think I prefer audio drama to single narrator. Heretic!

Thank you for the literary education I get from your selections---and thanks for your skillful reading, always intriguing and genuinely wonderful. This story was another massively synchronistic one for me to listen to today---as I have a friend whose husband has been diagnosed with grade 4 brain cancer, and I paid them a visit yesterday. The most hilarious "coincidence" is that I drank a mug of Green Tea yesterday during my visit there---I never have green tea, lol! But for some reason, out of the choices offered, it was the one I took. Hugs and Gratitude, Tony.

My feel about synchronicities is that they're just little bread crumbs from the Universe saying "You are on track---in the right place at the right time" and other variations on encouragement. Hi Tony, what a strange story! Beautifully narrated as usual, but it was your post story ramble that peaked my interest too. As this story is about mental illness it reminded me of one of my own short stories I wrote ages ago (that are still gathering dust on a shelf since I commented last time!)🙃It's about a young girl who perceives colours as sounds and ends up in a psych ward. Anyway, I wondered, since you work in mental health, if you would say she suffered from psychosis or something else? Would you bung her some anti-psychotics like Risperidone or prescribe black tea?😉As a tortured chronic depressive now ex paramedic, I'd love to try the magic mushroom therapy but probably no chance of that. Don't let those people's moaning comments get your goat by the way.
