@@sanderNL002I can't paste a pic in youtube chat, but most originals came with a small mesh L/R riser side; it's fully ZP until the ends. Katanas have been the best opening canopies I've ever flown, next to Fluid Wings anything; never had any inconsistencies. Now a Velo, anything X-Braced for sure has corks here and there.
i do with mine. Theres a video of Brian Crooch doing a pack job on a Katana. For instance, when i do my rolls for the snivel, i usually start the rolls about 6-8 inches down, instead of starting at the very top .
Hi Joe! Good to see people still appreciate this video. It's been years since I jumped the katana now and I cannot remember the altitude which I started my swoops. Also this was at sea level so it won't be the same if your lz is located higher. I hope you enjoy the Katana! Safe jumps!
Nice vid bro, what do u think about less wingload for this canopy for ex 1,4 , its razonable ? or should i stay with my friendly safire 2 with the same wingload, i love everything about my safire 2 but the recovery I hate that everytime i let go off the risers it goes inmediatly flat again...
Thnx! Less wingload would make it better in my opinion. I would definitely not load it more because of the steep flight angle of the canopy. I also came from a safire2 before the katana for the same reason. A good step up towards swooping and crossbraced canopies. Stay safe!
I have opposite opinion, I wouldn't get a katana at that light wingloading. Flies like shit. Flies SO much better above 1.4, it's not even close. I'd rather load a sabre at 1.4 than a katana
@@canatolakhoemini6728 in France even with 1600 jumps we cannot get a Valk under 600 jumps by years.. i can jump my katana just by the fact that i jump them since nearly 20 years..
@@JBS1974 ahh, I would never ask someone to fly a Valkyrie with that few jumps. I was wrong to assume you had many more. I was around 800-900 jumps , flying a stiletto 150, weighing 190 wo gear, and I could swoop that thing forever! Easily from end to end in the second landing area at Eloy, and everyone kept saying I needed a velocity and I simply wasn't ready for the responsibility of one. I had made some jumps on them, and at the time I was very intimidated flying them. I get it. Very top jumpers especially would come from other places and see a person doing 270s half as high as everyone else and it looks scary, I get it. I just wasn't ready yet.
Is that slider PD OEM? From my memories/experience, they came with webbed vented sides.
Hi Dale, As far as I know it was the original slider. Personally I have never seen a vented slider on a katana.

Always liked the crossfire 119 and 109s because they had just the extra shut down needed for those no wind, high altitude, sunset landings.
Sunset loads are always the best jump of the day. D7466
Interesting video! But those nerve wracking openings would kill me:-) I like huge, friendly, sweet canopies:-))
That's why I never made it to a square; nearly experimental back in the 70s; my PC made me happy.
First jump in 1967 was with a 28 ft. surplus double L and a chest reserve without a pilot chute. The sport has come a long way since then. D7466
Nice videos - and openings :) Just wondering if you do anything out of the ordinary when packing??

just bought a katana 120 and ill be at 1.66, how high are you starting your swoops?

@@sanderNL002 No worries thanks for the reply! in general ive seen guys say about 600ft for a 90 degree swoop and around 800-1000 for a 270 and higher

@@sanderNL002 THX Bro! yep I think im gonna move to this one, but well... crossfire 3 is a good option too
