    Correction: Increasing the slider in Nvidia Control Panel will properly adjust the gamma, not decreasing it as the animation shows.

      if iam correct it has ah-ips panel!?
      would like to know if it has same problems with blb like ahva panels (for example pg279q). i was very(!) disapointed with this panel :(
      this monitor looks realy interesting for me. love this widescreen for shooter but i play many rts games too (sc2) and dunno if this resolution works for me.
      perhaps 165 hz look better for some people but 120 is totaly fine for me.

    I recently purchased this monitor and i am extremely happy with how it is performing, The picture is great, the screen is huge and looks great! One issue, the bottom right corner of the frame is separated from the screen. It's a minor problem but if i'm spending over $1,100 on a monitor i expect it to be perfect. Not only is there a defect, but the price dropped to $999 2 days after my purchase.. I sent in a request for a some sort of credit and or a new one because i do enjoy this monitor! Also, g sync with CSGO is kind of wonky. But other than that i highly recommend.

    • @Nas-1240
      @Nas-1240 6 лет назад +7

      Martin well i can tell you that playing 21:9 supported games is incredible and this paired with at least a 1080 is an experience worth the price of admission.
      However, with all monitors, their is luck of the draw with the panel. While mine came with no noticeable backlight bleed and dead pixels, it's not the same with everyone. Plus trying to find a wall mount for this was a pain in the ass since the stand is so huge and this thing weighs almost 27lbs.
      If your going to get this, buy it from dell, as they have discounted prices and the customer support, as far as replacements, is some of the best in the business.
      If you can get it under $1000, this is a great purchase. I hope this made your decision easier.

      Martin it‘s the best Ultrawide Monitor you can get! And the price is now better (i got mine for 999€ - normally it costs 1200€). Gaming is awesome and everything else too! You will have some 21:9 problems in some games, but you can fix the problem easily
      For example Fallout 4 and Skyrim:
      You need to download the TruBy9 Ultrawide mod
      The Witcher 3: you need HxD for 21:9 Cutscenes (the normal game is 21:9 supported)
      Or the Flawless Widescreen app, which has included a ultrawide fix for many games. I hope the games in the future will support 21:9 normally like AC Origins/Odyssey

  • @bitmau5
    @bitmau5 7 лет назад +11

    If I understand correctly, Predator X35 is out next year, so for those that want to wait or need to save up, you might want to look out for that in the meantime.
    For those that have been waiting for an IPS, 1440, 34", 21:9 Ultrawide with G-Sync this is the perfect mix and the price is appropriate when compared to others. With all the sales on from now until the end of the year, now would be a good time to pick one up.
    This monitor is just what I've been waiting for. The monitor will be the last part I purchase when I finish my build and if nothing better comes along before then, this is definitely the one for me as it now sit's on the top of my parts list in the monitor category.

    • @Qanon20
      @Qanon20 7 лет назад +1

      Pax Justica Do you think the price of the Alienware monitor will go down closer to Christmas. Also you’re saying that the Alienware is a better buy than the x35?

    • @bitmau5
      @bitmau5 7 лет назад +1

      The cost of the Alienware is down *right now* depending on where you shop, so if you see it at the $1,100 (US) range and have the money, stop where you are and get it. Full stop, you won't find a better deal or a better panel on the market for the price.
      The X35 is rumored for release in Q1 or Q2, 2018 and will not have a price this low. If anything, the regular price of the X35 will be the same as the sale price of the Alienware. One thing of note and an important differentiation to pay attention to, is that the X35 will be a VA panel monitor, so that will drive down the cost a little, not a lot, in comparison to the Alienware. Your bang for the buck will be to get this IPS panel on sale.
      Both monitors, when *not* on sale, compared side by side, the IPS Panel will be at a higher price in general because if it's ability to push out deeper blacks in comparison to a VA and it's higher manufacturing cost. Also keep in mind, that a VA Panel like the X35, will have more noticable difference in quality at wider viewing angles, something you *don't* want in your peripheral vision on a curved monitor. Remember the spot in this video where Optimum Tech pointed out the slight color difference on the far left and right? That will be more noticeable to the next Predator X35 when compared to the Alienware. Should that stop you from waiting and going out to get it when it's released? No. I will also point out, that the VA will have a slight bit more light bleed when compared to the IPS, at least, that's what I expect to happen. However, Quantum Dot panels from Samsung will lead the pack when compared to other VA panels. If a VA panel is your preference because of the lower cost, then the X35 will beat other VA panels hands down and will be worth the buy, especially when you consider that it will be a 1440p monitor, which is ideal. Nobody should get a 1080 ultrawide, so keep that in mind as well when you're shopping around.
      Without having a price out yet on the X35, I can only speak with speculation when I say that I feel like the price range will be reasonably competitive with other IPS, 100mhz+. 1440p panels of this size but yes, it may actually be cheaper, but only by a couple hundred bucks. Is the 200mhz refresh rate on the X35 worth it for you? Is there much of a difference between 200mhz and 120mhz? Not really. Anything over 144, in my opinion, just isn't worth it.
      There's a lot to consider when comparing the two but what it boils down to is this: Do you want a high quality panel (notice that I'm talking about the panel alone, not the components around it) that's on the market now and on sale or do you want to wait and see what the cost of the next monitor is? If it were my own time and my own money, getting this IPS 1440p panel on sale now compared to waiting for a VA panel later down the road for the same price, I'll take the more accurate color of an IPS for production and day over a VA panel every day of the week. If you don't care about that, want to save a couple bucks and don't mind waiting for a monitor that you're just going to game on and nothing else, go for it, get the VA panel. You'll love it just the same.
      Both are great monitors. If you know what your needs are, what you budget is and how long you can wait, either is a great to have. If you want IPS, get this one and only this one, on sale. If you don't care, then get the VA at regular price for the same price as the IPS on sale.
      I have specific needs and know exactly what I want and expect from a display panel. I hope this helps you make that same determination.

      Pax Justica The X35 has HDR and a 10 bit panel, G SYNC, 3440x1440p, nobody else is doing that besides 1 monitor from Acer. It’s going to be super expensive

    • @bitmau5
      @bitmau5 7 лет назад +2

      Thanks for pointing that out. I realized on my way to the store that I probably overlooked a few things, but the reply was long enough as it is, so thanks for that.
      The X35 will have a full-array backlight with 512 individually-controllable LED zones. Compared to previous VA panels on the market, this is a significant difference and may very well jack up the price accordingly. No one else has done this yet, so you might right on that.
      The HDR format in question is HDR10, since that is the new standard being adopted for PC gaming. Great on TV's and this panel for sure and I think this is a first for a PC monitor, but I could be wrong on that point. This will be a game changer for sure, if they do manage to do it correctly.
      The panel will also apparently support the cinema-standard DCI-P3 color gamut. How accurate that will be and to what percentage is yet to be seen. This is made possible by improving the backlighting with a Quantum Dot Enhancement Film (QDEF), so there may well be less bleed on the X35 VA panel which will be an improvement over current VA's and significantly superior to TF panels. More evedence to your point about it being more expensive.
      There's no information on response times, but there are claims of "almost zero input latency" so I don't have anything to say there, except, be careful of how Samsung markets that point.
      In TV land, Quantum Dot is a cheaper alternative to OLED and does look good overall. I don't want to get started on the questionable marketing practices of Samsung on this but it should be noted that someone walking into a store and seeing a great big QLED sticker on a TV right next to an actual 4K OLED TV can be easily tricked. That tiny little squiggle on the letter Q, right next to an O, can be deceptive. I think this is deliberate on Samsungs part so I'm very worried about them labeling a VA panel on a PC monitor, even if there is "QLED inside" and they've managed to pull it off with 512 zones. I digress though, the jury is still out on that one and we'll find out soon enough.
      I don't like unknowns, so until the X35 comes out and get's into the reviewers hands so it can be ripped apart, tested and examined, I'm still going to stick with my IPS decision for now. If I havn't completed my build by the time the X35 comes out, I still have enough sway and room to change my mind.
      We'll see how it goes.
      Edit: and then I found this:
      Fake HDR 21:9

    • @ashenone3427

      You could save money and get a 1080 TI. But in all honestly. I wouldn't recommend this monitor with nothing less than a RTX 2080Ti if you want to play at Maxed out settings. You could get a used Asus monitor for $300-400 like the PG278q or PG279q which I highly recommend for a 1070. The 1070 was my first 1440p card. But a 1080 or 1080Ti is better performance. The 1080TI is a better buy than a 2080. I'm sending my 2080 back to get a 2080 TI. But, I have the money. When I first built my pc I had to make small baby steps.

    Awesome video !
    I am pretty sure the new 4K @ 144Hz displays will be prohibitively expensive and that not even Volta will come no where near close to even 90 FPS in AAA games at max settings. So, correct me if I´m wrong but an ultra-wide 1440p, such as the new Alienware AW3418DW @ 120Hz, seems like the best for gaming even for the GPU generation that will come the year after Volta. After all, the new 200Hz ultra-wides from Asus and Acer are NOT going to be IPS, so why bother ? Besides, I love MAX settings so 200 Hz are pointless to me. What are your thoughts ?
    4K @ 144Hz seems more like it´s an entire 2 years ahead of the GPU technology required to take the most out of it. And in early 2020 such monitors will be much cheaper anyway, so buying them for longevity doesn´t seem right either.
    So confusing... Don´t get me wrong, but investing in an Alienware AW3418DW and regret it with the release of 4k 144Hz could be bitter if Volta surpasses expectations proving me wrong... Never had a high-end ultra-wide before and a I feel like life is going to pass me by if I keep waiting for a ´better product´. Who knows if I will have time/interest in gaming in the future. Not a kid anymore. Then again, 4K 144Hz seems more future-proof for non-gaming PC use, due to its resolution. It´s maddening.

    I like the look of this monitor, it's 3440x1440 w/ a 120Hz refresh rate, which is exactly what I am looking for. And the price isn't bad either. However, I don't know If I should get this monitor or wait for the Acer Predator X35 or the Asus PG35VQ that are expected to drop in Q1 of 2018 for around $1,500-$2,000. I am leaning more towards Asus because I like the stand for the monitor. The Acer stand is way too aggressive and looks like it would take up half my desk. Thankfully, both monitors seem to have similar (if not identical) specs, so the deciding factor for me will be the overall price, who's first to market, and which one has the better stand for the monitor.

    I have this monitor and can confirm it is AMAZING!!! Previously was gaming on a 4K Samsung TV and this Dell 34" Ultra-Wide 3440X1440p (120HZ OC) is just flat out better. Most games I've found fully support the Ultra-Wide Resolution so no real problems there and obviously in the future in will just become even more mainstream. I personally see no good reason for going above 120HZ (the sweet spot) and the resolution is just about perfect as far as I'm concerned coming from a 4K TV I don't feel like I'm sacrificing anything at all.
    I'm running the monitor with the following specs:
    Intel I7-8700k (OC'D 4.8GHZ)
    EVGA GTX FTW3 1080Ti (2025MHZ)
    Corsair Vengeance DDR4 RAM 3600MHZ
    Corsair H100iv2 CPU Cooler
    EVGA 850W Super Nova G2 Gold Rated PSU
    Can run everything on "Ultra" settings with frames rates generally between 80-120FPS. Just a phenomenal experience all around.

    thank you VERY MUCH for covering the design/photo/video editing aspect. im also a gamer who's a graphic designer and im trying to find the best of both worlds. I found out the predator has more colors than the alienware? I wonder how you feel about that.

    Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I was aware that the Acer Z35P was the only 120Hz 3440x1440 panel (and that had a few issues on mine), I will be purchasing this now!
    Next time, can you please talk about VESA mount options? Ease of use, adjustability, quality of the stand etc. are all issues important to a lot of people buying ultrawide monitors.

      No problem, I got a lot of flack for not doing that on my Microboard M340CLZ review. Loving the content!

    I had the 1080 version and 2 of the 1440p versions now. the 1080 out of the box was trouble free. the 2 1440p versions had stuck pixels and backlight bleed. Considering taking back my 2nd one now before my time runs out to see if I can get a newer build date.

    This is my dream monitor. Great review. It was going for $999 a couple of weeks ago, wish I could've picked it up then

      Me too man, me too.
      $999 would be a steal for what this is offering tbh.

      Optimum Tech. You guys are one of the first channels to do a real review of this beast...they haven't put much into marketing
