  • If you want your dry top or drysuit to last for ass long as possible then this video is for you. A lot of wear and tear is put on the latex gaskets whilst getting dressed for the river, that is to say putting on your gear and taking off your gear. By following this simple tip you can dramatically improve the lifespan of your gaskets before having to replace them. And that's awesome.

Great vid. Glad I've already been doing this. Would like to mention that I bought a foam life size manikin head with neck that was pretty close to my neck size and used that to help stretch my neck gasket for a couple weeks anytime I wasn't using it and it worked great for me. You can get them for men and women from arts and crafts stores which is where I got mine. I highly recommend this for new neck gaskets instead of trimming.

I never trim. Suffer the first week usually then it is fine. In my experience and with my neck size at least. Plant pots or cooking pots can work well too.

Thanks for the tips. When seeing after time the sleeve peel a little from where it joins the latex cuff, how to you recommend reattaching the peeling portion?

Joseph Felber yea you can just aqua seal it. Stay ahead of it and it won’t be a big deal. Or wait for it to break and change the whole gasket.

@@SethAshworth Thanks again. Changing the gasket sounds like a big undertaking. I think I'll do the Aqua Seal while the problem is small, so it will never get big. (I actually do put Aqua Seal on pealing portions, but I thought I ask what you thought, as it was the topic of the day.)
This is a good time for me for maintenance activities, as my club's activities are temporarily suspended due to the Corona scare.

Joseph Felber exactly! Gasket changes are not too bad but a bit of work for sure. I am not good at them.

This is a rogue gore-Tex dry top in I believe mantis colour or maybe lime/blue. Bit older now. Not sure if they are still doing this one.
