সাবেক মার্কিন প্রেসিডেন্ট এবং দেশটির আসন্ন প্রেসিডেন্ট নির্বাচনের প্রার্থী ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প একটি সমাবেশে বক্তৃতা দেওয়ার সময় তার ওপর গুলি চালানো হয়। তবে ট্রাম্পই প্রথম ব্যক্তি নয় যে তিনি নির্বাচনের প্রচারণা চালাতে গিয়ে গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়েছেন বা সহিংসতার শিকার হয়েছেন। মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের রাজনৈতিক সহিংসতা নতুন কিছু নয়। দেশটিতে এ ধরনের ঘটনা একাধিকবার ঘটেছে। দেশটির সাবেক প্রেসিডেন্ট আব্রাহাম লিংকন এবং জন এফ কেনেডিসহ আরও অনেককেই গুলি করেছিলেন আততায়ীরা। তাদের মধ্যে লিংকনসহ কয়েকজন গুলিতে মারাও যান।
