Excellent video, Jen! It will be interesting to see whether Merseytravel owning the trains will make a big difference and if other areas will follow suit. The 777s look fab though and thanks for highlighting some of their best features (especially the level boarding)!
Merseytravel have taken over the whole network. _They_ will award any franchises. Rotheram is focusing on the battery aspect of the trains to extend the Network into parts of the Liverpool City Region Merseyrail does not serve, like Runcorn and East Runcorn stns. And also Widnes, which is served by Northern. Rotheram want Warrington on Merseyrail as it was supposed to be before Thatcher slashed the network while being built. he was also talking Merseyrail taking over the Liverpool-Manchester route - not sure which line as there are two, well three really as that one was cut at Kirkby. Battery trains can bring back the third line.
It feels like only yesterday some of the units were on static display at the depot. Rather an impressive transformation from the old PEPs. Hopefully they get the send off they deserve
Brilliant video Jen, nice to see others join you for this as well. The class 777's look very nice, I'll be up to try them when the weather warms up. :)
Nice to see other people including CyberTrains. But no Geoff Marshall or GlovesTrains. The Class 777 trains are very nice trains. Perhaps it’s time to say goodbye to the Class 507 and Class 508 PEPs and thanks for serving Merseyside and Liverpool for over 40 years.
Excellent coverage of the entry into service of the Class 777 Jen and, thank goodness, apart from one mention, the Metro Mayor didn't get a look in...... it is all about the trains and the real people who use them. Well done. We should look at a "Jen caught on the Move" on one of my West Midlands Metro videos where you "happen to be on board" like you were when you met my daughter Sarah on the Edgbaston opening! Keep up the good work. I love watching your presentations.
I just love hoe they thought of that feature, were they have the names of each station and time off course. Let's all hope that is a thing in the new future.
It seems to have taken eternity, but they are finally in service. You and Dispatcher Stour looked like you enjoyed yourselves Can't believe that Cyber Trades would be mean to you lol 😂
I found out on yesterday’s trip that the doors work the same way as the Manchester Metrolink Trams, as in if you press the door open button before the doors are released, it will set that door to open as soon as they are released by the driver. The door LED lights go white as well.
I think they should wire from Chester to Altrincham with 750v DC (passive provision to change to 25kv AC later) overhead and fit pantographs on these to make them dual mode current collection.... Extend the wirral line to Knutsford .... And run tram trains from Altrincham (platform 2) to Northwich or even all the way to Chester
Great video, and nice to see! At 2:13, was the first person actually on the train, a baby (who probably won't remember anyway?!) I like the green/red LEDs around the doors, and I know it's more a culture thing, but lots of people (including my eldest kid) are red/green colourblind - did you notice at all if the red flashes as a closure warning? At least there's the sound too! Thanks again!
I am blind and I was asked by the politicians to advise on accessibility. I haven’t been on the new trains so I was wondering if you could tell me if they’ve implemented these? I advised that the announcements should say which sides the doors open and where the bumps are in the floor if sone tactile strips could be put either side of them so we have a warning where they are.
The bike spaces are great! they remind me of the fully sized spaces Connex fitted to their 508s in the late 90s - it's taken a while but we've come full circle!
These are the cars that you can actually button open the doors without driver or conductor opening them for you. (Like the other National Rail sister systems down South and in the Midlands and Wales)
It must be hectic trying to get a RUclips video uploaded, when so many folk are filming the exact same train. No doubt the first film 'published' will catch the early viewers I've actually watched 4 videos so far, but this one was the first .. I suppose because I am subscribed to your channel. The metro-mayor is wanting to extend the Merseyrail battery hybrid metro trains from Liverpool to: Preston, Warrington, Wrexham, and Helsby. And hopefully to Wigan (and maybe to Skelmersdale) via Kirby. He also want to run right into both stations at Runcorn.
@@caramelldansen2204 I doubt any of the ideas are his, given to him by talking to Merseytravel - those which _can_ be done. But he embraced them, to his credit he is pushing them thru. Previous leaders of councils were useless. They planned as if this metro was not there. Anywhere else they try getting developments near or around a station for obvious reasons. The new Everton stadium is 53,000, in London they would insist it have an adjacent station or two or three. The new Everton stadium will be a nightmare to get to.
The 777s were also designed with a designated area for a pantograph should one need to be retrofitted, they can charge batteries and generally run on overhead power too if one is to be fitted.
@@ujiarchive Rotheram was talking of taking Merseyrail trains through to Manchester. Hopefully on the line via Warrington running right into Liverpool Central station and maybe beyond to Sandhills for the Everton Stadium. The line is 3rd rail to Hunts X, then it would be on battery to within Manchester where I believe it can pick up running on wires. From Lime St to Manchester via Newton-le-Willows will be wires all the way.
Funny to see a native speaker also makes mistakes in pronouncing some municipality names 😉 and making fun of it. Same about the rivalry between cities. Love it and love your video’s!
It’ll actually be 45 years since the first 507 entered service this November, we haven’t half waited a good while for them! In fairness, the old trains were still very reliable for their age, and received a very thorough mid-life refurb between 2003 and 2005, followed by a lighter one between 2014 and 2016.
I've not seen one of these units yet, I think one of only 2 classes in mainline service I haven't spotted (the other being the 318s). I've only done probably over half of the Wirral Line, and none of the Northern Line on my merseyside journeys. I wonder how similar these are to the new 555s due later this year to replace the old metrocars on Wearside (I know they have different seats, but still).
It’s running every 45 minutes on the Liverpool Central to Kirkby route on weekdays, starting at 10:50 and finishing on the 16:05, which after terminating at Kirkby returns empty to the depot
Great! I've been eagerly awaiting the 777s finally entering service. Unfortunately I'm not a local... I'm in Coventry but I do hail from the North West. Looks like a day trip to Liverpool is on the cards for me then. Does anyone know how many units are currently operating (is this the only one so far?) and the rollout programme?
@@JenOnTheMove Ah yes! You're talking about the classes 805 and 807 (just had to look it up cos I wasn't sure of the designations) That'll be interesting certainly. Unfortunately Avanti's service record atm isn't great but I do travel to London for a day out every month or so, always taking in an exhibition at a gallery or museum in the morning and then having a general jaunt afterwards. I did (just by a piece of luck) sample the Northern Line Battersea Power Station extension on the opening day... I'd already booked my day before it was announced. Didn't unfortunately manage the Elizabeth Line opening but was down there soon afterwards. *Did* attend Bond Street's opening day though, as well as the Overground's Barking Riverside extension. Hoping to get down for Barking station's redevelopment completion day too... looked good from Geoff Marshall's recent vid! The one I'm *really* looking forward to though is the introduction of the new Glasgow Subway trains... they look dead smart! Fully walk-through too, which is pretty good for such a dinky system!
Currently, there’s only one, which is running every weekday starting with the 10:50 from Liverpool Central to Kirkby and return, every 45 minutes until the 16:05 off Central, which when it gets to Kirkby terminates and heads empty back to the depot. Staff on board today said the plan is for an additional diagram transferred to new stock every 3 weeks, going up to every 2 weeks later this year
I liked the train familiarisation style video(s) they've put out on their official channel, "Merseyrail Electrics". A name, that puzzles me tbh. I have heard about the Wessex Electrics, and if one were to follow that naming example more strictly, _Merseyside Electrics_ would be more consistent. Or _Mersey Electrics_ even. Which could actually be merged into *Merseylectrics* (or _Merselectrics_) 😮💡 What du you think?
Isn't that because Merseyrail is, or was originally, the name for the whole system including the then largely diesel services out of Lime Street? Merseyrail Northern and Wirral lines are the only part actually operated by Merseyrail.
The franchise itself is called “Merseyrail Electrics”, and this name IIRC originated under British Rail, when the “Merseyrail” brand extended much further beyond the reaches of the third rail network, which is why numerous Pacers and Sprinters ended up carrying the old Merseyrail livery. These days, the Merseyrail brand still exists on station platforms, but not on trains, for services not on the 3rd rail system, and services at these stations are run by other franchises
@@agent_605 Correct, also Merseytravel still owns these stations under the Merseyrail brand, however doesn't operate from them and organises other TOCs to operate from them, irrc.
interesting, the default position being operable while FUCKINGLY fobbed in Corporate-speak as "tip up seat" instead of disengaged 'folding seat'...I mean, why challenge those with mobility issues instead of making able-bodied passengers work for their seat..?
The word M stands for Merseyrail happens to be in the northwest of England 🏴. They will replace the old ageing trains 🚆 made dated back to the 1970s. Inside the class 777s, it is nice 👌 and warm inside. Very smooth journey to happen. All standard class accommodation only. Non- smoking 🚭 accommodation and people can sit anywhere they like 👍. The seats 💺 are cosy, comfortable and passengers feel happy 😃 about it. 😄
These are the trains that South Western Railway SHOULD have bought instead of the disastrous new trains that (for the most part) STILL aren't running.....despite the fact they should have entered service there and a half years ago! Most apparently are sitting idle at a depot in Marchwood (near Southampton). Endless technical issues have plagued them since the planned introduction back in 2019. And drivers have repeatedly said the new trains aren't safe to drive. SWR deny that drivers have ever said this. But then this kind of attitude is fairly typical of SWR. I say, to SWR - cut your losses and scrap the lot of them. And buy the 777 train instead. Never ridden one and may not as I don't live in Liverpool, but they already (from this video) look better than the awful new (non running) trains SWR have wasted tens of millions of pounds on. We used to have the 707's - but in their wisdom, SWR sold nearly all of them to Southeastern. They 'believed' that the new trains they wanted to run on the network were better than the 707's. These were introduced by South West Trains (or SWT) just before they unbelievably lost the franchise to the current operator SWR. To say the service from SWR is not good at all would be an understatement. It's appalling. And I for one, hope that when the franchise for operating trains out of London Waterloo comes up for renewal again, that SWR lose it. They deserve to. Poor use of money from inept managers has turned what was a very good service into an awful. It's now patchy and unreliable.
@@JenOnTheMove I've found them to be brill tbh. Although I can't comment on the 777s as I've yet to go on one, tfw trains additionally have toilets and WiFi 😂
The 777s also have WiFi, it works decently well. No toilets, but the most you'll normally spend on Merseyrail is 40 mins max, and there are toilets at most stations. One toilet for a three-car 197 isn't enough. There should be at least two.
It’s the exact same voice that’s used on the existing 507/508 fleet, although the announcements themselves aren’t exactly the same as they’re formatted slightly differently
I went on one of these trains last friday. The annoying thing with the onboard announcements was the echo. Being open plan you can here it from all the speakers and if it plays from one speaker at a slightly different time it echoes.
So Jen, you're copying Geoff Marshall by sitting on the floor and doing a piece to camera. Have you not got any other ideas of how to do something that Geoff hasn't done before?
Natalie, you do realise sitting on the floor and doing a piece to camera isn't original to Geoff Marshall? I mean, did you even consider that sitting on the floor doing a piece to camera was pretty much invented with the camera?
Without a doubt, these are the best trains on the network from a view of serving their intended purpose extremely well. Well done Merseyrail.
I do like them too...the high seating make me think of grand chariot...industrial design queerly seems limited to the B.I. there nowadays
Geoff Marshall says they are best Metro trains he has ever seen. In looks they clearly are.

It’s running every 45 minutes on the Liverpool Central to Kirkby route on weekdays, starting at 10:50 and finishing on the 16:05, which after terminating at Kirkby returns empty to the depot
@@agent_605 ta very much! you're a life saver!
Its like the Elizabeth line
You're going to be having new trains through Coventry this year I believe!
Staff on board today said the plan is for an additional diagram transferred to new stock every 3 weeks, going up to every 2 weeks later this year
@@agent_605 Thanks! Very helpful and informative.
At long last!
so does tramlink and merseyrail share tins of yellow paint ?
I liked the train familiarisation style video(s) they've put out on their official channel, "Merseyrail Electrics". A name, that puzzles me tbh. I have heard about the Wessex Electrics, and if one were to follow that naming example more strictly, _Merseyside Electrics_ would be more consistent. Or _Mersey Electrics_ even. Which could actually be merged into *Merseylectrics* (or _Merselectrics_) 😮💡
What du you think?
I don't know about Mersey, they can't even get to Stockport.
Merseyrail Class 777
interesting, the default position being operable while FUCKINGLY fobbed in Corporate-speak as "tip up seat" instead of disengaged 'folding seat'...I mean, why challenge those with mobility issues instead of making able-bodied passengers work for their seat..?
I would actually agree with you to be honest, folded up would be the better default in this context
bring back the overhead railway.
Will you please do the class 701
Watch this space!
Check out the new trains in the video for my new song "Yellow and Grey" ruclips.net/video/TkdFwtJ-N8c/видео.html
Who is the manufacturer of these trains?
Stadler
2:20 ok who the hell takes their shoe off and outs them in front of the yellow line
Do they have toilets
What no coffee Jen
I know right?
There is something just plain wrong when Northern Line signs are blue.
Or that the green line isn't the District?
2.00 "Jen points at a 777"...
Jen pointing at things is obligatory :)
"Jen points at a 777" from a distance then stopped filming 2:00, so we missed its arrival 😭
It's now patchy and unreliable.

still doesnt beat the new TFW trains
There’s a lot wrong with the 197s though. They’re good but they’re not great
@@JenOnTheMove I've found them to be brill tbh.
Hate these trains. Prefer class 507 and 508.
Much better for the passengers though, who are the most important people here
I hear rhe woman voice is more annoying on these new trains?
I didn't have an opinion really, but the announcements were a lot quieter than on many other trains!
Well you’re a nice person aren’t you? 😂
Didn’t realise that the floor was copyrighted!
Natalie, you do realise sitting on the floor and doing a piece to camera isn't original to Geoff Marshall? I mean, did you even consider that sitting on the floor doing a piece to camera was pretty much invented with the camera?
This is like when Apple sued Samsung for making their phones be a black rectangle
These are epic trains and some videos coming on my channel! Do you know who voices the 61016 message?
