As you can see in the video, I just took strips of color paper from standard letter-size stock (8.5" x 11") and folded them in half. And then, I simply fit my coin into the middle and cut the strips to size. The dimensions will depend on the size of the coin that you choose to use.
Sponge is easier but not as reliable. If you use a white styrofoam cup, the stuff from the diaper blends in and you can (quickly) show the cup empty with no water.
