The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I remember them when I was a kid. She had such a great voice. Absolutely great talents. Wow!
Louie Prima and Keely Smith performed many times in Las Vegas. My mother and father loved their shows. It was when people were human beings and love was in the air.❤
They were so magnificent together. Keely had an extraordinarily beautiful voice.
YES. Underrated to this day--she somehow can't be perceived separately from the Louis nimbus--but on her own she was as good as everyone in the top rank of singers, and she outlived almost all of them while retaining her voice into her 70s and 80s! Some of her performances in the 1980s are amazing--she sounds UNCHANGED from 1958❤❤❤
Better !
Keely was a wonderful performer -- talented, beautiful, and a great deadpan sense of humor. I love Louis, too. He was also funny, a great showman, and seemed to have boundless energy. What a team. Bless you both.
Am, Keely really had the pipes, much more than she let on with the Prima act.
This woman really had a VOICE!
Yeah that Old Black Magic really shows her voice off better than this number.
Now that my friends is entertainment. I love this video ❤❤❤
Keely! There will never be another.
I love how playful Smith and Prima are with each other as they alternate the lines back and forth. Pure joy!
I wish I was around when they were performing together...I love their act!
I was just thinking that. What a blast that would be!
Timeless and so precious to have them on film performing live … what great music 🎶 ❤

@@jadezee6316 You're assuming that the two are mutually exclusive
Love it always 💞 at last together again 💗
Absolutely epic!
That was great.
Keely is absolutely fantastic
Superbly amazing and in the moment. The way they riffed off eachother is so cool to watch.

I saw Louie and Keeley back in the early 1970’s performing an early morning lounge show at the Riviera Hotel. They were great and their show would run until 4a-5a. They always had fun with their music and their audience.
@Rob Ratchford I thought they broke up in 1961?
5 good comments. 1 stupid comment. That's life. Thanks for the video.
I love the reference to ol blue eyes
Good stuff.
Оба страстные таланты. Когда в запале ненароком схватил её за руку, она сразу же проверила свою ситуацию под платьем!
Lou Prima and Keely Smith had a turbulent marriage and eventually it dissolved because Louie had more than just an eye for other woman. Still they were two very talented performers
That band could chug.
שילוב של לואיס " השובב " ,קלי " המבוגרת האחראי" ❤
The dueling southern accents. VIRGINIA vs NEW ORLEANS
Was kelly in the movie. Thunder. Road .
Keely, yes she was.
Madonna santa, what a team
Great couple
Bro he's hitting the griddy
The original Sonny and Cher. They had the same manager.
Keely Smith had the most fabulous voice, she could sing anything and make it her own. However, though she had great success with Louis Prima, I always thought it was a distraction from her giving full realisation to her talent. In addition, she was beautiful and had a sensuality that she kept in check. I know she was a religious lady, but whatever, I always adored her!
Mataram a música.
Hi
I always chuckle how Keely picks the unlikeliest time to find an itch to scratch, like a cat at play...
Kinda reminds me of johnny cash & June Carter
What is the translation of this Italian word? 1:04
Keely calls him a “jadrool” - playful Italian slang for a stupid person, a dummy. It shows up in other songs like Rosemary Clooney’s “Mambo Italiano” (“Hey, Jadrool! Ya dona hafta go ta school!”)
@@johnjleone Thanks for the translation
@@bubbaschwartz My pleasure.
The other commenters are correct, in that it means a bit of a clown, or better, someone not completely serious. It is actually a southern Italian dialect term for the strict Italian (Italiano tricolore) word cetriolo, which means literally a cucumber. So she is (literally) calling him her little cucumber.
I am no linguist, but I remember my Pop using this term with just about all of his close friends. It is something you might call a very good friend as a form of playful verbal banter. Hope this is useful.
They were better than even Taylor Swift.
They are so wonderfully weird here. It’s creepy and endearing.
because they were selling shtick...not talent..less you think shtick is talent
@@jadezee6316 it takes talent to invent a schtick that doesn't suck. If a person just has pure talent, that doesn't exactly make for good entertainment. Someone can win a big singing contest on tv because they have an incredible voice and delivery, but if they don't have the taste and charisma to make entertainment then well....nice voice I guess? Maybe they can get a ghost writer or a really hands on manager? At that point they are just a tool(lots of musical acts are like this). Pure talent, as you would describe it is far from everything. I would rather see an interesting weirdo with a half decent voice than a boring person with the voice of an angel. I think most would agree.
Wow, how about that dirty look she gives him just before they sing? From what I remember hearing about them towards the end of their marriage, she had a lot to be mad about.
He makes fun of her native american heritage, she makes fun of his italian heritage, they're friends till the end, and nobody tried to cancel them. Where did the world go wrong such that we ended up so hyper sensitive?
oh well, they were ironic, come on😂😂😊
I'm here bcuz Louis Prima inspired Ronnie James Dio 💙
Oh, are you kidding me???
Keely was the star here ..The PRIMA act was very much of its time (1950s) but in retrospect Louis is now slightly irritating to watch.
I think they were both the stars they fed off of each other
this would work at 3am in a lounge in las vegas full of vacationers and drunks not wanting to go to bed.....but it is not the same thing here
I must be missing something. If you are looking for a preview to indygirl style, where the performer mispronounces and slurs lyrics, then you've really got something here. If your looking for a good performance of this song, i'd suggest Frank Sinatra.
I thought it was horrible. Louis is just a clown. Keely was the one with talent. I meant a checker at Target with "Keely" on her name tag. I told her I knew who she was named for. She said I was the only person who has ever made the connection.
They were sonny and cher.... If sonny had any talent.
AWFUL! Cole Porter would tear up this song if he heard this version
