      Hogan in his later years had veto power over the results of any of his matches, as per his contracts with the promoters.
      That is a conflict of interest. Hopefully, no major promotion will ever allow that to happen again with the wrestlers that they hire.

    It’s a shame that some highlights from Curt Hennig’s match with Nick Bockwinkel for the AWA World Heavyweight Championship in 1986, that went to a 60-minute time limit draw, was not included in this career highlight reel. In my opinion, it was “The Match Of The 20th Century”.

    Great video, but one thing missing: after his first run in the WWF, he went to the Pacific Northwest and improved his skills and became a better wrestler and was the champion in that territory. The AWA went down because of their screwy decisions. He was a great wrestler, just sad he resorted to cocaine and the roids.

    They should have given him the strap when he had the feud with Flair. Why they gave it to Hart and not him I have not clue.

    • @hoganschoice
      @hoganschoice  Год назад +4

      It's a shame. If I had to take a guess I would think personal habits and a nagging back injury at the time prevented a run with the strap. WWF was being dragged through the mud over rampant steroid use and Vince needed a whiter than white guy at the top to help shift the public perception. H

      Not that I’m aware of. Would definitely watch if they are out there. Angle and Perfect faced off in the 2002 royal rumble. Hennig also wrestled Mysterio as part of the West Texas Rednecks stable when they battled No Limit Soldiers at Bash at the Beach 1999. No singles matches though. H

    Great tribute. No doubt that first back injury stopped his career in its tracks in the WWF. Had he been healthy, I have no doubt he would have been in a top spot for the WWF strap in the '96-2000 timeframe. Instead, WCW squandered the opportunity when they had Curt turn on the horsemen in Winston-Salem, NC and he became another faceless member of the NWO. I think this was a key turning point when fans started to switch over from a declining WCW to RAW for good.

    • @hoganschoice
      @hoganschoice  Год назад +2

      Agree. Bar the back injury there few other guys on the roster that were as all rounded as he was. H

    Great wrestler, great competitor, but taken far too soon? Nah, anytime you mix steroids and recreational drugs, you're going to be checking out of time sooner than expected. I read somewhere that Terry Taylor was originally offered The Mr. Perfect gimmick but turned it down, Curt was PERFECT for the role.
