It's the same with people sending messages on FB and deleting them. It destroys chat continuity. And in cases where it's being abused to send harassing messages only to be quickly deleted... Once it hits my PC/Phone, the data is mine, they shouldn't be able to remotely modify it.
a note on the message loggers for images specifically, discord already caches all images sent to you and if the person deletes them discord DOES NOT delete the cache, so discord themselves have a message logger built into the app
It's not permanent nor accessible. If they delete their message, Discord staff can not see it. So if you report a message and it gets deleted nothing will be done.

Everything is saved on discords servers. Even if the user is banned. Wanna test it. Create 2 accounts. Send msg to each other. Delete one account. Even though Discord has a cache, it only works for images and they're only ever saved in a low resolution. They're also not easily accessible. Using a message logger is many times worse ethically speaking, as deleted content (even stuff sent accidentally such as personal info) is shown right to the person with a message logger. Plus, many who would use a message logger don't explicitly state it, which also violates another ethical and moral rule. If I paste something into discord and that has my location, I want to be able to delete it and remove it from the eyes of as many people as I can. I understand Discord will have it, and maybe the staff of the server, but that's a *lot* better than a couple people with message loggers that now have that information accessible for non-administrative purposes. tl;dr: only images are saved. you suck if you use a message logger. i dont want you having long-term access my personal info if i accidentally send it and delete it.

@@blewis42002ethics aside, everyone should know that once you commit to sending it out, it'll be out there. Delete wasn't always a thing and it never was absolute. It was added to many platforms as a way to fix dumb errors like typos. It's a pretty simple concept honestly. Think through before you send something out that might not be so great for yourself later on. Logging aside, someone will pick it up and save it. Loggers just make the process automatic, it isn't a new process.
I love when my most used applications make simple quality of life changes against their TOS rather than embracing them and adding similar features. So fun.

@@ExOhzWell, for one, depending on the power of your PC and the browser you're using, the browser app can be much more resource-friendly, so there's a lower chance of it slowing your games and other apps down. I'm sure some Opera GX users actually use Discord in it for a reason, though for the record I'm not one of them. I use LibreWolf, a fork of Firefox, which seems to work much better for me in resources than Chromium in most situations.
The thing with message loggers as well is that MANY moderation bots utilize them. If they were truly against TOS, then an argument can be made to ban said bots as well.
That nitro bypass thing is pretty cool. All I want is to send emojis from different servers into a server I’m in, heck even WhatsApp allows you to send different emoji/stickers you have to one group. It’s the simplest thing behind a paywall
Damn huge probs to the Devs. Better Discord always felt a bit weird when it used to be popular and you had to download a lot of plugins manually but this actually looks like it was built-in from discord themselves. Also no useless features someone actually put thoughts into what makes sense.

The best thing about the translate plug-in is that you can type in English for example but when you hit send it will send it in the language you select.
If anyone is curious why they can't find Review DB (8:47), it's because it's now removed. The creators of Vencord were unable to keep it moderated and they sadly had to remove the feature
i remember when i first installed discord. it had barely anything. then competition came around what made them move away from minimalistic discord and now (or since a few years already i guess) we got vencord. felt rly good looking at all these features

Making plugins won't get you banned unless it's a selfbot things or yeah bc there's a lot cases about it. Regular users who only chats, doing basic things as a discord user won't get banned. I used alliucord and i was never banned.
All of these should just be regular discord features: Pin DMs, Friend Invites, Mute new guild, Better folders, Favourite emoji, No reply mention, Image zoom, Send Timestamp (omg manually making those is a pain), Voice Msg on Desktop

All the people losing their mind about "chat logger" really don't understand. Once you send it, it's out there. Some one can and will save it. You've given up that privacy perk the moment you sent that image out. Think before you send. Delete functions aren't that useful anyways unless it's for correcting dumb typos or other distractions. Delete isn't meant to protect your privacy, its just a convinience.

@@Tom-101 They are not interested in improving the platform? The are working on their API, technical difficulties and the user experience on a daily basis and release monthly updates. They communicate with the users, listen to feedback and don't add stuff randomly without getting proper feedback most of the time. They are also doing the one thing that everybody is asking for since years: "Let us create our own experience" and you can do that by creating a bot. Discord is and will always be a user driven experience and imo everything except private and server text-/voicechat could be behinde a pay-wall. They have to host several MILLION servers. The technical skill needed to make everything run that smooth with this amount of data and requests is a masterpiece on it's own and the people and knowledge behind it costs a shit ton of money too. That's just the hosting and maintaining aspect of it... i've hosted a single api once, had roughly 1 million request per month and the server costs were ridicilous.. People like you don't understand shit and simply take a platform which costs millions of dollars to simply maintain as granted instead of actually thinking about what they get for FREE!

Know where you can bypass the customization restrictions? In the browser. But why in the browser? To insert user style sheets, of course. Using CSS, and a script injector, you can then create your own themes.

People care about message loggers as a privacy concern but don't care about discord telemetry which stores everything they say/write. We live in a society...
It's way different when administrative people do it vs some terminally online stalker or credit card skimmer bot, etc, laying in wait for sensitive info to yoink for nefarious purposes. Or even a Karen that stores every little thing someone says just to constantly or wait to bring it up several years later as soon as it benefits them. Don't even begin to pretend discord recording is the same. Millions of texts fly through their servers every minute. They're not bringing attention to any individual message unless it specifically gets pointed out to them. Administrative purposes.
If you post something in a public forum and delete it, but someone copied it before you did, that's not a privacy invasion. That's you having to live with your mistakes.
Idk how to feel about the plugin that lets you stay in calls forever. Like, sure, I get it, but Discord implemented the auto-kick for a reason. To save bandwidth.
ehh at this point i dont think it really matters. you can join a call in a server with nobody in it and stay in it as long as you want. if they really cared they would kick you in server calls as well.

The problem with Discord is that I *need* to use Vencord or similar clones (discord-screenaudio...) or else I won't be able to screenshare with audio on linux, which is kind of a big deal.

You wont lose your account with clients like BD or whatever this is. My friends and I have been using things like this for half a decade and our accounts are all fine, I haven’t known a single person to ever get banned for it. Even if you post images of it in big servers, no one cares really even cares.
the relationship notifier one is outright bad, the only time you should notice someone unfriended/blocked you is if you try to talk to them. getting notified about it is like that person coming up to you, then yelling "I DON'T LIKE YOU," and then vanishing into a cloud of smoke, while right now it's just quietly leaving.
Misused how? They still can't message you or do anything. They just get notified that you don't want them to message you, instead of leaving them in the dark. And as someone who was quietly blocked without warning for seemingly no reason, I'd appreciate that.
@@AtomicBlastPony anybody that may know the blocking user in real life, anybody who may track the users other socials if they realize theyve been blocked, making an alt account to circumvent the block. The longer it takes for someone bad (such as an abusive partner) to realize they've been blocked means the more safety the blocking user has in seperating themselves from a situation. Being able to imediately know that they've been blocked makes it more likely to lead to harassment or circumventing the block in some ways

I just looked it up and I don't see an official one (in fact there's one that's the opposite, adding pronouns to messages)? Again, why though, some people don't even use it for anything vaguely near pronouns so it's just losing information or reducing clutter edit: wish I didn't make this comment because I do not want to get these notifs anymore. Imo the way the field was added is very easy to misuse (actual trans people and allies I know don't use it for pronouns and keep them in their About Me lol) and it should've been checkboxes with custom as a fallback. Not complaining that it exists, only the way it was added, and at least it's free to change them per-server, diet per-server statuses
The sad thing is that popularizing Better Discord and others modded clients will just make Discord play harder against us. We'll end up with a fully locked app, because everytime a big ytber talk about it it become harder to dev on those clients. So, thanks, but no thanks.
My main discord account got hacked a few months back and Discord still refuses to help me. I lost my server along with my account, because of that I learned to always have a backup account as the server owner. So I'm not concerned at all with getting banned on my new accounts. I will never pay for nitro again and this seems like a nice solution.
Out of curiosity, how do you set up that account so that it can actually keep ownership? If some Virgins care enough, they can take over your server and just strip the roles away
"If you send something and delete it" never ever ever assume ANYTHING will be deleted under any circumstances. The only way you can be sure something is deleted is if you never connect the computer to the Internet and you dissolve the hard drive/ssd. Otherwise, assume everything you ever send anyone by any means is stored *somewhere*

@@LilacMonarch It's a lot easier for slip-ups to occur on a computer. The chances of me accidentally telling people sensitive personal info in a real-life conversation is... well... very low. If I had sensitive info copied on my computer (password, bank info, etc.) and I accidentally send it, I want to be able to revoke that access from as many people as possible. Having a message logger is unethical, especially if not every party is aware that one is in use.
This is helpful if your a mod in a server and they dont have a bot that documents deleted/edited messages and those people pinging you for non emergencies

The question is... Why Vencord? Yes it's very simplistic and works but it's quite limited, having no extra plugins is kinda balls. (edit: by extra plugins I mean, being able to add custom plugins) While a little bit more complex to start with cause you have to manually download plugins, replugged in the long run is much better.
well, why not? these plugins are really the only things you'd want tbh, much faster to download 1 simple client instead of downloading all of the plugins
@@Azertyyys as a replugged supporter, I can tell you there are some plugins that really suck not being there on vencord, and like I said, having no support to have custom plugins is really a mess because in certain cases you need a plugin for a theme to look better (example: have a theme that zooms in very tall images so that you can read text on it without opening in browser, without a custom plugin, the image is insanely blurry, but with a quick and small plugin, it loads perfectly fine without any blur) then again yeah I do see the appeal of having almost everything all in one but I do think that they really still should add custom plugin support one day
I'm pretty sure Ven is working on 3rd party plugins marketplace, there's even a PR for that iirc. I'm not sure how replugged does its injection, but on Vencord it modifies the code directly. I'm sure some Opera GX users actually use Discord in it for a reason, though for the record I'm not one of them. I use LibreWolf, a fork of Firefox, which seems to work much better for me in resources than Chromium in most situations.
The thing with message loggers as well is that MANY moderation bots utilize them. If they were truly against TOS, then an argument can be made to ban said bots as well.
Theres also a bot that logs every single message deleted, edited or sent in the chat

All the people losing their mind about "chat logger" really don't understand. Once you send it, it's out there. Some one can and will save it. You've given up that privacy perk the moment you sent that image out. Think before you send. Delete functions aren't that useful anyways unless it's for correcting dumb typos or other distractions. Delete isn't meant to protect your privacy, its just a convinience.

They communicate with the users, listen to feedback and don't add stuff randomly without getting proper feedback most of the time. They are also doing the one thing that everybody is asking for since years: "Let us create our own experience" and you can do that by creating a bot. Discord is and will always be a user driven experience and imo everything except private and server text-/voicechat could be behinde a pay-wall. They have to host several MILLION servers. The technical skill needed to make everything run that smooth with this amount of data and requests is a masterpiece on it's own and the people and knowledge behind it costs a shit ton of money too. That's just the hosting and maintaining aspect of it... i've hosted a single api once, had roughly 1 million request per month and the server costs were ridicilous..

Idk how to feel about the plugin that lets you stay in calls forever. Like, sure, I get it, but Discord implemented the auto-kick for a reason. To save bandwidth.
ehh at this point i dont think it really matters. you can join a call in a server with nobody in it and stay in it as long as you want. if they really cared they would kick you in server calls as well.

Man, the edit logger is probably the best feature never added to Discord. Unfortunately I'm not looking to lose my account so I'll just assume anything with (edited) is incredibly sus.
You wont lose your account with clients like BD or whatever this is. My friends and I have been using things like this for half a decade and our accounts are all fine, I haven’t known a single person to ever get banned for it. Even if you post images of it in big servers, no one cares really even cares.
getting blocked is not a vencord issue, the stable client is also suffering the same issue, discord themselves said it as its a cloudflare issue
For the better discord theme thing I also found that copying the link address for the download button and pasting that also works just fine as well

the relationship notifier one is outright bad, the only time you should notice someone unfriended/blocked you is if you try to talk to them. getting notified about it is like that person coming up to you, then yelling "I DON'T LIKE YOU," and then vanishing into a cloud of smoke, while right now it's just quietly leaving.
Misused how? They still can't message you or do anything. They just get notified that you don't want them to message you, instead of leaving them in the dark. And as someone who was quietly blocked without warning for seemingly no reason, I'd appreciate that.

The longer it takes for someone bad (such as an abusive partner) to realize they've been blocked means the more safety the blocking user has in seperating themselves from a situation. Being able to imediately know that they've been blocked makes it more likely to lead to harassment or circumventing the block in some ways

My main discord account got hacked a few months back and Discord still refuses to help me.
I lost my server along with my account, because of that I learned to always have a backup account as the server owner. So I'm not concerned at all with getting banned on my new accounts.
I will never pay for nitro again and this seems like a nice solution.

"If you send something and delete it" never ever ever assume ANYTHING will be deleted under any circumstances. The only way you can be sure something is deleted is if you never connect the computer to the Internet and you dissolve the hard drive/ssd. Otherwise, assume everything you ever send anyone by any means is stored *somewhere*

If I had sensitive info copied on my computer (password, bank info, etc.) and I accidentally send it, I want to be able to revoke that access from as many people as possible. Having a message logger is unethical, especially if not every party is aware that one is in use.

The question is... Why Vencord? Yes it's very simplistic and works but it's quite limited, having no extra plugins is kinda balls. (edit: by extra plugins I mean, being able to add custom plugins)

@@Azertyyys as a replugged supporter, I can tell you there are some plugins that really suck not being there on vencord, and like I said, having no support to have custom plugins is really a mess because in certain cases you need a plugin for a theme to look better (example: have a theme that zooms in very tall images so that you can read text on it without opening in browser, without a custom plugin, the image is insanely blurry, but with a quick and small plugin, it loads perfectly fine without any blur)
then again yeah I do see the appeal of having almost everything all in one but I do think that they really still should add custom plugin support one day
I'm pretty sure Ven is working on 3rd party plugins marketplace, there's even a PR for that iirc. I'm not sure how replugged does its injection, but on Vencord it modifies the code directly.

@@mufaro_xyz not sure either how replugged injects plugins (I'm a theme dev, not a plugin dev) but I see, i mean at least it's not betterdiscord levels of performance LMFAO
@@SiriusBYT monkeypatching isnt so bad but generally source code patching lets you modify more things than monkeypatching does and its much easier to keep track of when a "patch" doesnt work when discord pushes an update
