Okay, I've got it figured out. All 8D songs are not alike. The ones that are not done well just sound like the music is going back and forth from left to right, pretty much the same effect you would get by moving the individual volume off and on for each side. Then there are the ones that have been done well, like this one. The music doesn't just go from side to side, it revolves around you, moving at some point just out of your reach. It goes behind you and then in front of you, sometimes even moving further away from you and then closer again. If you are listening to one of the many 8D songs out there and you feel like the music is coming from an outside speaker and not your headphones, you're listening to 8D done right!
It's literally just panning and reverb to simulate a room. Those have been basic mixing techniques for ages. But when you do this on the master instead of just the individual channels, you're going to introduce a bunch of issues like phase cancellation. For example the bass sounds just like on big pile of mud. I can't distinguish the single sub bass hits, which in this instance is really sad because the bass is pretty interesting where the fundamental is tuned to a different note than what you hear as the bass, but I digress... Imo this would sound a lot better if the sub would stay in mono and wouldn't get affected by the reverb. That way you would still have a defined sub bass that still hits you right in the face while everything else will go around you.

This is youtube.....2 channel stereo with panning effect. Thats all headphones are...they are 2 channels. A left and right. Virtual this... virtual that.. Its a selling ploy. The EQ ing of the panning with less bass or more bass and FX-verbs is what tricks you into thinking its higher or lower in height when panning from left to right stereo spectrum. ......... Spend money if you have and get lots of speakers for Dolby Atmos and DTS-x or Auro 11.1.... Then youre in sounds of the heavens 🤘
@@bonkbonk92 Ears are just two channels, but humans are very good at pinpointing direction of incoming sound. That's why more than two channels has an effect on how sound is heard.
@@Alpostpone eh. I'm a stereo guy. I can get whatever sound i want out of my system. I don't have an issue with surround or anything, but I'm too lazy to set one up the right way. Plus I hate satellite speakers. They're too tiny for good full range, so they just sound cruddy to me unless they have medium sized full range Cerwin Vega boxes or something at least.

Remember that ones ears are technically only two channel as well. Other senses add more dimensions after that.
