The tip for the toothpaste tube isn't necessary. I just use a convenient 90-degree angle, such as along the top of a drawer edge, to flatten the end of a tube. Been doing it for over 40 years.

And of course, time; here on Earth, we have an oxygen-rich atmosphere, so everything is in a slow burn of decomposition.

SOme of these are good tricks, but some are just junk. BTW I never heard of a Trowel called a Spatula before... I guess I can use my kitchen utensils as tools for painting now.

Doing it incorrectly is just asking for trouble. It is advice like that for why codes and regulations exists and most people should not be doing DIY.
