- This workshop, filmed in August 2023, was designed for students from the Bachelor of Composition, Bachelor of Music (Digital Music and Media) and other degree streams of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney.
The small cohort in attendance for this class had some prior knowledge of modular synthesis techniques and general concepts, however this course was a first look at this Serge system, shortly to be installed in the SCM studios.
It was presented in a casual tutorial environment, and has also been designed for anyone using the studios to get up to speed on the functionality of the Kameruka system.
Whilst somewhat unstructured, an approach was taken to let the developing patch dictate the direction of the class content... a second workshop video follows, diving deeper into the functionality of this five-panel system. Hopefully this helps those wishing to dive into this unique system in Studio 1030C!
Thank you very much appreciated! Built a 73-75 homebuilt but have no idea how to patch it😅 til now
Thank you for sharing this Ben it's indispensable
Cool!
❤
Big Thanks!!! it will be a good teaching material for me. I'm really looking forward to future tutorials as well. 😊
Bravo Ben! What an awesome overview which covered stuff that often gets overlooked (pos/neg slews). A true treasure trove and gift to the Serge community. Cool! Thank you.
Thanks, Todd. That means a lot coming from a pedagogue like yourself! 🙏

This was very comprehensive! Thanks Ben! 🙌
Just picked up a random source eurorack set of modules and looking forward to using these videos to understand the serge philosophy. Thanks for making these videos!
Great introduction!
Some additional comments on the basic info from my side:
0:35 Serge is Russian/Chinese, born in France. He lived and worked quit a while in the US though.
2:18 Another think than Serge didn't like on the Buchla system was the fact that it used different patch sockets for audio and control voltages.
4:00 "Random*Source" or now "Serge Modular" is based in Frankfurt/Germany and build improved and modernized version of classic Serge designs as well as completely new Serge designs.
Hey thanks for these clarifications, my apologies!
Great job prof! Excellent explanations! 😻
thanks for watching :-)
Fantastic, thank you very much for uploading this!

Fantastic, thanks for this! Will definitely check out the new tutorial if you make it available
cheers... we're having the next session on Wednesday... should be up online by early next week at the latest. We have limited time so it's really only scraping the surface of the system, but I plan on doing some work with the SSGs, patching up some feedback and diving into the DUSG and finding other uses for envelopes/slopes!
Great news, looking forward to it. Really enjoy your musical approach with modular(especially the serge).
why thank you! @@stevem8430
