Barney is certainly one of my favorites and one of the best casted and written ones. It's Barney Miller, The Odd Couple, All in the Family, Frasier, Sanford and Son and Get Smart that are in that category for me
When I got into law enforcement back in 2004, my training officer reminded me so much of Fish. I also found that once you get into law enforcement long enough, you get the same level of sarcasm and enthusiasm. You have to have the sarcasm and a sense of humor to stay sane doing this or any other job in law enforcement or you'll go nuts.
Got on nypd in '92. This is the most accurate depiction of law enforcement ever when it's about a specified unit (detective squad) the ball bustin is the part everyone misses the most when they retire
Fish comes to work one morning...pulls out his chair, looks at it and says softly "Gonna be a long day". Dietrich asks him what's wrong...Fish replies "The donut's flat". Priceless.
Barney Miller : I'll go with you myself. Det. Janice Wentworth : Please, Captain Miller? You're gonna have to let me go some time. Barney Miller : What do you say, Fish? Fish : I'd like to, Barney, but it would kill Bernice if she found out I died in the company of another woman. Elizabeth Miller : Phil, that is just terrible! Fish : Okay, Wentworth, come on. But I'M driving.
Does anyone have the scene from the episode Heat Wave where Fish says: "You'll never open that window. They nailed it down in 1932, on the day this building was condemned."
it pretty funny that even though fish was shown as this worn down syndical cop in real life his actor was this bright and very athletic person they say he was the heartiest one on set
I was a teen when this aired, all the cop shows were obviously serious, this show put human emotions into usually robotic like portrayal of cops, and humor. It was a breath of fresh air to a very formated way of telling stories, nothing like this before, each character was individual which was also new. I loved these portrayal of usually somber, depressive atmosphere. I think the show helped humanize being in law enforcement.
@@baronvonnembles There were a lot of times where the actors broke. There was the one where Nick is explaining something about the coffee and Ron Glass (Harris) was behind him and cracked up on the punchline. Abe's best line was when they bring up a fan that is barely turning. Harris says "Hey! It can't be turned on. It's barely moving." Fish responds "My very words to Bernice"
The video quality is amazing. Where did you get it? I have the box set from Shout Factory and a ton of episodes have streaking along the side. Yours seems to be HD. Thanks.
I have a photo of my great-grandfather in uniform in the NYPD, don't know what year, but they're in a group and there's horse manure on the cobblestones in front of them. 16th Precinct, which doesn't exist any more.
I often wonder how many takes were re did. On shows like this. Im sure it was hard for everyone to not laugh at many of the lines. That were said in the show. Im sure I couldn't keep a straight face. When all the comments being made.
which episode is it when the guys were wondering who the gay uniformed police officer was in their station...Then 2 cops come into their office and he admits and doesnt look anything as what they expected..good one which episode.watched it ages ago
Only Abe Vigoda can make that line funny. You will never be forgotten.
May all those who have passed from this show R.I.P. 🙏🏽
Amen 🙏
One of the best comedy series ever (along with WKRP in Cincinnati). Sadly I fear we shall not see their like again.
Agreed.
There have been a lot of great comedy shows over the years, but imho ... BM is still right at the top.

@@DC-er1ui 1979 through 2011, spent 7 years as a detective during those years, you're so right!
Agree. But not being able to turn it off during the non-working time of life can be a problem.
This along with Nick's werewolf scene and Dietrichs lie detector bit are the funniest moments.

he was only 54 here. lucky for casting he looks 20 years older.
Oh gosh! I am turning fifty two! I am fish!
@@jonchaney Fun fact: Jack Soo (Yemana) was OLDER than Abe Vigoda.
In real life, Abe was a fitness junkie. He ran 5 miles a day and played hand ball.
Thanks Abe, you'll be missed.
leftcoaster67 ARE missed.
Jack Soo, Steve Landensberg, Ron Cary, James Gregory, and now Abe Vigoda....
+spoung45a The late 70's, 1980, man that was a long time ago when these guys were doing the show.
and also George Murdoch, Ron Glass, and most recently Gregory Sierra.
I lLOL'ed at this. What great comic timing by Abe Vigoda.
RIP The Good OLE Days🤘
My favourite TV line ever!
This was great but the better one was where payroll said he'd died and Barney said "its probably a mistake" Fish just stared at him
That IS a hilarious scene with Fish and Barney...and here it is: ruclips.net/video/4Bb0o6WxE4o/видео.html
How about the hashsesh brownies episode, when Fish chased a perp across rooftops and then learned why he felt up to it? His remark is priceless!
Barney Miller : I'll go with you myself.

He was the best part of barney miller...

That face.
This show was absolutely hilarious at times.
How could he say that with a straight face!😂

Damn Abe that was good
I loved it when someone told him about Salvation Army Santas being mugged and he had this marvelous flinty dark laugh.
it pretty funny that even though fish was shown as this worn down syndical cop in real life his actor was this bright and very athletic person they say he was the heartiest one on set
How did these actors not crack up😂😂😂😂😂😂
Tell Mickie it was just business ok tom
I liked Fish and Yemana. They were funny.
"Bernice? What day is it?"😄😆😄

You broke my heart Tessio
The good shows are gone. Sad
Yeah but they play reruns and you can buy em online im pretty sure
Needless to say, I think Hal broke character there. 😂😂😂😂😂
I think he and Vigoda both had a hard time maintaining solemnity.

Fish. Has priorities!
The commercials were longer than the video clip
That’s one of his best ever!!!!
BAHAHAHA
Tom, can you get me off the hook? For old times sake?
