Island hopping may seem a good idea but by jumping from island to island every few days you will actually see less, not more! We have welcomed 1000s of "hoppers" who just seem exhausted and actually have no idea what island they're are on so to get the best from Thailand do not over plan your trip! Koh Phangan has so many events going on and places to visit, waterfalls, national parks and hidden beaches it is impossible to get a true picture in a full week, you really need a minimum of two. Forget the full moon, unless you have experienced a hippytastic sunset at Zen beach, found the trek or boat taxi to Bottle Beach, spent Friday at Rasta Home, the Sunday walking street market at Chaloklum and swum in a beautiful waterfall you haven't started. It seems a good idea to jump on another ferry but that's not how it is. you will wait at your bungalow or hotel for a taxi, then wait at the pier, a ferry from Phangan to Koh Tao is 1hr 30 mins and now 600THB (add two taxi journeys either end) you must also return so just jumping to another island you waste a whole day of your holiday when if you had stayed on Koh Phangan you would have spent that time in a waterfall, on a beach or planning a "Lost Paradise" party not sat on a crowded ferry all day. It is absolutely possible to book a ferry at any pier or from your hotel on the day, it is also easy to find accommodation on any island even at peak periods so choose an island, book a few days then go from there, don't book on all three islands as you then loose all flexibility and the option to change your mind, which happens all the time! Its a long way to Thailand, save lots of money, have a better time and a longer holiday by travelling less when here, spend more days on the beach.
