    So, while it might be all memes and added easter eggs, this is MORE like what Map makers used to do. they didn't want their maps copied, so they made up towns, that didn't exist, and if they found them on a competitors maps, they knew they had been copied, and would get money and damages.
    The "easter eggs and memes" are basically watermarks for EXACTLY this kind of thing.

      Yup, and funnily enough dictionary writers still do essentially the same thing as well. They will put in fake words or format things in a way so they can tell if another company just scrapes their database and uses it to try to print out or publish online dictionaries. Though I don't know how prevalent that still is.

    • @wiirlak8681
      @wiirlak8681 10 месяцев назад +9

      @@NavyDood21 I heard about a lawsuit in France that failed for plagiarism on a dictionary. Using the fake words as proof. The judge recognize that fake words were copied but since those are fakes, it doesn't grant them anything.
      As for the right words ? Well, you can't prove they copied them too, plus descriptions are "truth", which can't be copyrighted; so they win the case, but gained nothing.
      Now, they still use the techniques, to check who copy whom, but that's all.

    • @the_undead
      @the_undead 10 месяцев назад +4

      Knowing dbrand, it is equally likely that this was and was not intentional. And frankly, with how much artistic license they take with the tear down skins, it would be pretty obvious that these are copied regardless. Because you could easily do a different shade of copper, you could change the color of some of the components a little and so many other things and have it be as faithful as the dbrand tear down is

    11:35 The fact that they didnt EVER actually open or look at a single real phone and instead opted to simply scan PICTURES of the already existing skins, tells me with absolutely zero doubt whatsoever, that casetify had no idea those were easteregg/watermarks. They 100% assumed that was what was on the actual phone.

    • @steffahn
      @steffahn 10 месяцев назад +19

      They did not even scan pictures of existing skins. They downloaded preview images of existing skins from dbrand’s website. This is evidenced by some parts of an depiction of the phone’s camera that made it partially onto one of their poorly cropped skins matching dbrand’s website’s imagery. The phone’s camera is not part of dbrand’s skin, so you wouldn’t get that from a scan, and even if scanned with a phone inside, it would look different.

    Generally speaking, as a matter of copyright law, even a photograph that is an unimaginative, unembellished, straightforward snapshot of something that anyone could easily take a picture of themselves, is protected. That doesn't prevent you from creating your own version of that snapshot yourself (unless the underlying idea is trademarked, or there's some other law preventing it, or whatever technicality), but it does mean you're committing copyright infringement if you steal someone else's snapshot instead of making your own.

    in case of mahoot, iran’s market is almost completely isolated from the global market and dbrand like almost all western brands are not present there and also mahoot is not present outside of iran. There are ways to order products like dbrand’s from inside of iran but it will cost like 500 USD for a case in a country that average monthly income has plummeted to around 200-300 in the past decade. I’m not defending their action in stealing someone else’s work, I’m just saying that there’s just no real overlap for their markets and with or without mahoot and alike brands, nothing will go to dbrand and other western companies from inside of iran, except for the giant ones like apple or laptop manufacturers etc.

They can’t, the Easter eggs would be a dead giveaway. Laws for products sold in US and Canada should have anti copy protection, which violation of that law equals a very big pay day to the original creator that was ripped off without the need for trials or money sucking lawyers. I don't know if this has been the case for a while or if I only just now noticed, but Linus's mic has a larger pop filter than Luke. Is there normally a large enough difference in how they pronounce the letter P that they require different audio equipment?.

      I think the filters are same, its just different perspective. The filter and mic aren't centered so change in angle and orientation is making you think its different size but its not. If you watch some other clips where Luke's mic is placed differently, they look the same size.

    • @kuro_emiya
      @kuro_emiya 10 месяцев назад +1

      doesn't need to apologize when that clown gamer nexus lied about billet lab lending it to linus. when they originally said he could have it and that they didn't want it back. and then billet labs decided that they wanted it back long after LTT released the video.

    • @the_undead
      @the_undead 10 месяцев назад

      @@cifers8928 a couple of things, billet labs first said that line is could keep it. They only changed their mind long after, second of all, that product is only going to be purchased by people who want a solid copper water block regardless of how good or bad it is, that's not the kind of thing that anyone who's reasonable about even water cooling is not going to be purchasing because you can get an entire water cooling solution for cheaper than that water block. So if billet labs fails, it would not be because of that video. In fact Even if that video was a glowing five-star review of the product, it would have changed the fate of the company at all.

    Linus inadvertently hit the nail on the head. It's going to be hard for debrand to win this case because they have to prove damages. And if case, if I was selling it for more with an inferior product then there really isn't damages unless they can show that by doing so it diluted dbrands product. There really isn't a real case here.

    • @lilkittygirl

The first video I got recommended from that channel was a sponsored video for a $2000 watercooled mattress that requires a monthly subscription to use!
