the opposite is the case. starts out with how he searches for yt clips referencing his own movies. last half of the video is him being really pretentious of how he evolved as a director... so self centered, haven't seen any other person in the closet talking so much about himself.. really cringy
Lucas Garibaldi hopefully it will. maybe in a year. it took about 6 months for "frances ha" to get a criterion dvd/blu-ray release after being in theaters in the u.s.
Give it a couple of months; since it has been barely a week since Criterion has announced their april releases, films usually get a DvD release at least 6 months from their theatrical premiere
god why are people here in the comments so fucking mean with this guy? seriously there are a lot hateful comments about him more than any other filmmaker that has been featured in these videos.
sandorx4 Maybe to you they are crappy but not to somebody else. Your pointless opinion is just one single insignificant opinion that means nothing just as much as mine. everything is debatable but you thinking that his films aren't good isn't the absolute truth.
Time to "spam" RUclips... along with a link of course. www.indiegogo.com/projects/cuffed-student-short-film Talk about a party foul. After a night out gone wrong, Kurt ends up in trouble with the law. But even when he escapes the police, he can’t seem to escape the handcuffs. Click to follow the journey of Kurt and the production of the film “Cuffed," a student independent film, and help support this production to see if Kurt can figure out a way to get uncuffed before he loses his job along with his dignity.
I think the first time I saw it, was titled 'The Bicycle Thief'. Which to me was apt at the ending how it demeaned the character to such a lowly level. Bicycle Thieves just makes everyone sound corrupt and struggling from start to finish. Who and/or what invoked the title change? And don't go changing Fat Girl title because it sounds better in French according to him. LOL
How does 'à ma soeur' ('to my sister') becomes 'Fat Girl'? What a 360° turn of a title, it's such a dramatic change, it becomes a different film(experience). Remarkable.
It's simply an accurate translation of the original Italian title: "ladri" is the plural; otherwise it would have been "ladro". There are of course at least two thieves, or would be thieves, in the movie... The plural has the effect of suggesting one among many, which is part of the neorealist aesthetic, in this instance a perfect mix of director de Sica's humanism and screenwriter Zavatini's political convictions.
He really does not seem very cinema literate, which probably explains why he uses up the time talking about himself. The Criterion Closet should not be a megaphone for blowing your own horn!
Ruben Östlund might not be very cinema literate (film snob?) but he has two “La Palme d'or” prises on his shelf. How many other directors have that? With love…
My picks if I went to Criterion's Blu-Ray/DVD closet, at the moment would be.... -Ace in the Hole -Foreign Correspondent -Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion -Rififi -The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (probably get that one for my Dad) What would your picks be?
+Brendan O'Keeffe Amarcord Paris, Texas Blind Chance The Double Life of Veronique La Strada 3 Women A Brighter Summer Day Close Up Code Unknown Children of Paradise Yi YI Fanny and Alexander Fantastic Planet Fantastic Mr. Fox Night on Earth The Red Shoes Three Colors Trilogy Three Films by Hiroshi Teshigahara That was basically just a list of movies I want from criterion, especially since all of those would cost me probably a couple thousand dollars.
"Ruben Östlund's top RUclips clip picks."
I'm glad he looked up that man cry video, the man cry is one of my favorite moments in Force Majeure.

Beautiful and humble comments from this master. From film classics to RUclips classics, inspiration comes in any shape.
Force Majeure needs a Criterion release!!
Joe Hughey agreed
Great film!!
No, not a good film.
He’s rare-adorable, real, not pretentious. Love his work
🙄
the opposite is the case. starts out with how he searches for yt clips referencing his own movies. last half of the video is him being really pretentious of how he evolved as a director... so self centered, haven't seen any other person in the closet talking so much about himself.. really cringy
@@powlyyy5419what a terrible take 💀💀💀
Two Time Palme D’or Winner!
And RUclips fan!
Get Lars Von Trier in the closet guys! That would be great!
No. He'd start making too many nazi comments and get banned.
am sure he would have a copy of mein kampf hidden away somewhere as for a joke to show someone
Well they did get that Serbian commie guy in the closet
Meh. Bunch of Dreyer and Tarkovsky films.
That would be wild
And now the triangle of sadness, wow, huge talent! WIsh you Oscars!!!
This is the most interesting DVD pick so far.
+Bruno Hunziker Agree 100%
Congratulations on this year's Palme d'or
Refreshing...just watched Force majeure...wonderful film. I hope this guy is going to make lots of other films.
Grats Ostlund on winning Palm D'or for The Square!
I love that he has the swedish humility.
I want Ruben Östlund as my teacher
Nice consolation prize for the Oscar snub.
Who cares about Oscars except 15 yr olds and some retards?
I don't think any 15 year olds would be interested in the Oscars.
Also, I wish I could know Roy Andersson personally : /
Triangle of sadness is great
Who knew Jurgen Klopp was such a great filmmaker!
Jurgen wishes. Ruben is hot and he doesn't have those tic tac teeth.
Congrats Cannes!!
Yes, finally someone picked Fat Girl! love that film!
I’m going from oldest to new n this is my fav one so far.
Wow, Battle at Kruger was a great!
I love that because of his Swedish accent he says “Viridiåna”
Mr. Ostlund, you are absolutely lovely.
loved his story at the end!
2:16 palme dor winning editing right there by criterion
The deepest closet ever!
the man crying, spanish driver almost kill the students, battle at kruger, taxi driver in queue
Thank youuuuu
the last one is "cab driver on the BBC" I believe
These 'DVD picks' videos are like christmas presents
Even his real life stories are gripping
I like Force Majeure, I like Ruben Östlund. Great picks.
Also extremely valuable lesson about not always being sure about your vision! Thanks!!
I forgot about Fat Girl. That film is insane. Harrowing
What does he say at 0:57 ? Taxi driver (...)?
Interview. Search for Guy Kewney
Thank you criterion for these nuggets
Fat Girl... excellent pick.
does this mean that "force majeure" will come to criterion?
maybe someday, but I don't think just yet. The movie is pretty recent after all
Lucas Garibaldi hopefully it will. maybe in a year. it took about 6 months for "frances ha" to get a criterion dvd/blu-ray release after being in theaters in the u.s.
thevoid99 well let's hope so than. It would be pretty awesome
Give it a couple of months; since it has been barely a week since Criterion has announced their april releases, films usually get a DvD release at least 6 months from their theatrical premiere
Adam Robinson
oh, dolan on criterion... awesome.
god why are people here in the comments so fucking mean with this guy? seriously there are a lot hateful comments about him more than any other filmmaker that has been featured in these videos.
I don't get it either. He has great taste in films!
Will f
Exactly.
Interesting guy. But is he finished? Would love to see more
He recommended Fassbinder. Fassbinder was better. Bergman's HOUR OF THE WOLF is very great.
wow roy andersson is his teacher
Who?
I like him
Kinda looks like Keith Richards on The Bicycle Thieves cover!
FIY Americans, if you want to do an impression of a stereotypical Swedish accent, this is how it sounds like.
A Swede, so will he mention Bergman?
*Fanny & Alexander sits behind him for half the video*
Great director!
He went to youtube and googled?
well google owns youtube, so I assume some of their search technology is being used here. Also he's speaking a foreign language.
I know. Im swedish and ashamed of his poor language-skills ;)
Luckely his movies are better than his english(if that makes any sense) :)
Thats debateable
Pun intended I hope. "debateable" :) Looks like something Ruben Ö might write.
sandorx4

Consistently terrible audio for all these videos...criterion quality?
I bet when he eats pvssy he motorboats and eats like a hungry billy goat who has gone days without milk. Hungry Ruben.
What was the first Bunuel film he recommended?
***** Didn't he recommend one right before that @ 1:26?
GreenGretel Viridiana
New Name YouBitch
Thanks!
Great modern Marxist director! No wonder he likes Buñuel that much
He really does not seem very cinema literate, which probably explains why he uses up the time talking about himself. The Criterion Closet should not be a megaphone for blowing your own horn!
And it's still better than most closet picks where they just grab a bunch of films without talking. This is way more interesting.
Ruben Östlund might not be very cinema literate (film snob?) but he has two “La Palme d'or” prises on his shelf. How many other directors have that? With love…
That’s good: worst man cry ever, touche
Yawn Cass-ah-vits
God, it would be so awesome to just be in there inside the criterion closet! He's very lucky.
Shooting is almost always a struggle, and admitting that things are not working is very hard.
