  • Hello there! Welcome to my 5 year loc update!
I can't believe it has been so long...but here we are.
In this episode I talk about what I've learned from this journey, update on routines and styles, and products used.
I have put out videos less frequently lately, because there haven't been any major loc changes for me in the past couple years. so I've moved to updates every few months. But I will gladly take any video requests you may have. : )
Thanks for watching! Feel free to leave questions and comments below.

Wow! Look how long your hair is! Great video. I found that 4c/4d hair reacts best when you don’t use any oils at all. In fact, using oils actually dries it out. Also, castor oil is sticky like you said and creates a playground for lint and dust. Dr bronner’s leaves a greyish residue on afrolocs too. I stopped using it early in my loc journey. The idea that Afro locs need oil or moisture is a misconception. It’s meant to be dry and soft to the touch. Wearing semi free form locs has been the most magical and freeing experience I’ve ever had in my own self care and the best decision I ever made. I love this community. Thank you so much for the update. Here’s to ultimate freedom and easy hair!

Thank you! I'm surprised there's much length, considering how many ends I've ripped out lol🤦🏿‍♀️
Oh, that's great that you've been able to make it work without it! I've gone long periods of time without oil, and it hasn't gone as well for me. But being free of having to use any extra products is very appealing. Yes, there is soon much freedom in this journey.
Thank you for your thoughtful reply

I just found your channel today. On the day that I was about to cut my 4 month old locs. You have helped to inspire me to keep going 🙏🏾

Oh, I am so glad you found this channel inspiring! And I'm glad you didn't give up.
My locs were a mess at 4 months, so I understand!
I hope you stay inspired and get to see your locs and hair blossom.
Thank you for your comment and welcome to this channel!

I can so relate. I have very fine hair and not dense at all. All of them coming in flat. Never wanted locs. They chose me. Freedom. Thank you for sharing.🍉🌷

"They chose me". I like that.
Loc were a big "never" for me until literally just a few weeks before I booked the appointment to start them.
Flat locs are a cool unique look, imo. I have a few flat ones too.
My pleasure! I appreciate your comment!

Hey M!!! Wow l didnt realize its been that long but yes. I started watching your videos when l moved to Germany in 2015 around the same time l started watching Luke. They are growing beautifully. I'm almost 3 years into my third and final set. I dont see myself without locs. They have finally locked. Because of my soft hair texture it was looking like loose natural hair the longest. I've also combined a few weak ones but overall theyre doing really well.

    • @mnotinglife7934
      @mnotinglife7934  3 года назад +1

Nikkie! Yes, somehow it has been that long. I can barely believe it!
Also can't believe how you discovered our channels like that.
Ooo, you said "final" - so you're really really happy with this set still.
I thought the loose natural look was really cool for your locs, but yeah, im sure it must be a relief to know they're loc'd
I feel like it might by near impossible to go have locs without having to do a little combining.
Thank you so much for being a part of this channel for all these years!

@@mnotinglife7934 lol yes ma'am! I'm really happy with this set of locs almost more than my first set which l didnt think was possible. Of course they're not perfect and are a few l ok cs here and there that are taking longer to catch up with rest of them but overall, I'm pleased. You're right, at least for me l don't think l've had a set where l didnt have to combine or repair a few. I have learned from my previous journeys that l need to moisturize but not too much, and l've decided not to color this set at least not any time soon if at all. I t changed the texture of my hair ( extremely softer and finer) which made it even more difficult to my second and current set.

I appreciate that you've really paid attention to what your hair thrives with the most.
I feel like our hair tells us really quickly what works and what doesn't.
I've wanted to dye my hair a little darker in the back, but have seen from other videos that hair dye can do so many things to texture.
Sometimes it seems that hair already changes in so many ways on it's own, throughout the journey

Thanks. Honestly though, I am pleased with my hair growth and keep it super simple and natural. Between my daily vitamins, dr bronners and oil, my scalp is healthy and happy. 😊
