    I LOVED this idea. Though I bet you find more pro opinions at a Google's cafe than at a regular cafe hehe

    Definitely a narrowly targeted demographic to young urban cafe enthusiasts. So what do you recommend for the other 85% of the population?

    Sorry, but as a UXer working with websites, apps and systems for banks, stock market and other investments, it's hard to believe that to be true... It's impossible to find 85% of core usability problems with just 5 people (and it's dangerous to give a certain number to this, I mean, how can you generalize it for all situations? Wich methods did you use to find this number? Tell me about the methodology...). That depends on the project size and business requirements, 'cos as flows become more complex, other issues (more issues) tend to be a problem depending on the profile of your samples.

      Xandre Lima thank you for your thoughts. You're right, its hard to generalize for all situations. This method is based on Jakob Nielsen's research which advocates for testing with a small number (like 5 users) and then running as many of these small tests as you can afford. I've found it to be an interesting and effective approach. You can read more about it at www.nngroup.com/articles/why-you-only-need-to-test-with-5-users/

    Awesome video! Though the first question on the sample survey is sex.
    Doubly bad for using sex instead of gender and for using that as primary separation axis for users. Almost always a bad idea unless your testing condoms or tampons.

      Claire Blackshaw thank you for watching and for your feedback! I've updated the survey template to reference gender - what do you think? Thanks again!

    • @EvilKimau
      @EvilKimau 9 лет назад +4

      Boris Masis Much better! Though you should always think WHY you have gender on there. Its an easy crib but as any statistician knows add an axis and you will find relevance even when it might not be there. In most cases its more than likely a false signal. One less question always makes things go faster. Obviously if your dealing with a topic that traditionally has strong gender norms there may be different behavior but a second question is to ask why enforce that? All too much for a short basic video but its inclusion on the default template has meaning and it's worth thinking about that.
      1. Replace gender with race? Is that okay. Well yes if your doing a community app designed to reach into a traditionally black neighborhood say.
      2. Nationality or native speaker is often a much bigger signal with UX design. Many people might not know without asking.
      Basically think about the defaults. But thank you so much for your response even that small change makes a big difference

      Claire Blackshaw thank you again for your thoughts :) I've made the question optional - I mostly use it to help me remember the context of the conversation when I'm reading over the notes back home. I don't do any statistical analysis with these (it's only 5 people), but it is helpful to recall the conversation (at least for me). I do hope and encourage everyone to customize the survey for their particular use case. Thanks again!
