I haven't watched SNL in years due to how bad it has become. It was great to see old, familiar faces and to be reminded how great SNL once was. Sadly there are too many people no longer coming to us LIVE FROM NEW YORK!

Thank you for putting this tribute together, I grew up watching Saturday Night Live as a child believe it or not as young as 9 years old the very first season with Gilda, John, Dan, Chevy , etc. , etc ( hey it was the weekend and no having to get up for school) May all these beautiful people RIP 🙏🏼🌹🕊️❤

Gilda Radner was the real heartbreaker when she died, it affected everyone in America because she was the living embodiment of the girl next door, everyone felt like the girl they grew up next to had died because she was such a sweetheart, that one was a real punch in the gut for everyone.
With Belushi died it was a bummer but at the same time it was like "Well who didn't see that one coming?", but when Gilda died it was just so sad and seemed so unfair.

Steve Martin was the host that weekend. She passed away that morning. Steve walked out on stage crying. The sketch he and Gilda appeared in "Dancing in the Dark"?from 1978) was replayed as a tribute to Gilda in place of Steve's planned monologue.

Gilda also had her own movie, Gilda Live! In 1980.
I have her Comedy album where she sings "Let's Talk Dirty To The Animals" which I think was also in the movie.
There was also a TV movie biopic called "It's Always Something" with Jami Gertz as Gilda.

Here's a factoid for ya, and I'm wondering if that new movie coming out about the insane 90 minutes before the first episode aired will have something in it about it, Billy Crystal was an original cast member, but because of a dispute he had all along with Lorne Michael that never got resolved under advisement from his manager he walked away 15 minutes before the show aired, that caused a lot of problems for everyone because the show was not only written but had also been rehearsed in front of a test audience, the moment I saw a commercial for that movie I immediately wondered if what I'd read in the book Live From New York about Crystal walking out minutes before the first show aired is going to be a part of it or not.

Don't forget that the show's first musical guest, Billy Preston, was a significant contributing member of the Beatles, even tho he was never credited on the albums. In a way, you could rightfully say he *was* the first Beatle to appear on the show. (Of course, this gets into how many Beatles there actually were, which could number close to a dozen, depending on how you count. But Billy, much more than most, deserves that accolade, imo.)

Another one not mentioned was Milton Berle. The cast hated working with him and he was never invited back. Milton showed his ego and was uncooperative during rehearsals. This should not be called SNL In Memoriam, as several celebrities on this list had blossoming careers without SNL's help. Celebs like: Madeline Kahn, Prince, Richard Pryor, Andy Kauffman, Joe Cocker, Frank Zappa, and Ray Charles were already household names prior to SNL.
Doing the memoriam like this makes it appear like the show made their careers, when in fact it was the opposite.

This is an old, worn out cliche':
    SATURDAY NIGHT.....DEAD.
I quit watching SNL when they brought in Will Farrell, Tina Fay and their crowd in the mid 1990s. It should have gone off of the air a very long time ago. My favorite sketch was Chris Farley as Matt Foley, the motivational speaker who was divorced and lived in a van down by the river. And I loved Eddie Murlhy when he was on SNL. In my opinion, he carried the show from 1980 to 1984 and kept it from getting canceled. I am thankful that I am.old enough to remember the Golden Age of Saturday Night Live from October of 1975 through May or June of 1980.

Everybody has a favorite period and a period where they didn't like it as much. I kind of like the whole thing. But for a time I was not as big on it.

I was in high school when SNL started in 1975. The show stopped being funny or relevant when Eddie Murphy left in the early 80s.

It hasn't been funny in years, except for this past weekend with them making fun of our current clown show of an administration.

Like in the inimitable Trumpian style a conservative needs to make everything about them
