German artist Otto Piene (1928-2014) was the founder of the group ZERO and one of the pioneers of postwar German art. His best-known works are glowing, moving objects created through experimentation with light, space, and air. In 1969 he coined the term Sky art for his concept of works in which the landscape or city are the focal point. His works are in the collections of major international museums.
Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang (b. 1957) is world famous for his installations and drawings using gunpowder and other explosives, the properties of which he studied in Japan. In 1996 he was shortlisted for the Hugo Boss Prize, and in 1999 he received the Golden Lion at the 48th Venice Biennale. His firework shows were presented at the opening and closing events of the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
