I lived there as a Yank during conversion to decimal. The old system was cumbersome but versatile in some ways. How much is one sixth of a dollar? There isn’t such a thing, just an approximation. No rounding in the duodecimal system. Many years later I was visiting my sister in Scotland. She warned me not to patronize a local shop. The proprietor was crooked. I needed some newspapers because I also read the opinion column and send a letter to the editor. I’ve been published four times. The Indian shop owner correctly sensed I was not a local. He tried to shortchange me. I just smiled, looked at him, and told him my sister warned me you were dishonest. He gave me the rest of my change. My father was a math whiz and was getting short changed at a bank in Athens. He sensed something was wrong so he returned to the same teller for another currency exchange. She was a little unnerved when he made a gesture with his fingers as if asking for another card in Blackjack. He did that until her share of his money was all his. Go dad!
Hi Paul, that was a really good buy. While watching I checked which ones I'm missing in the brass date run and you found all 3 of them, 49, 50 and 51. Probably going to get them separately as keep getting job lots and no luck with them dates. Great video.
The corrosion is mainly copper hydroxide I think. In such cases, judicial cleaning with a proprietary coin cleaner would be beneficial and you have nothing to lose really anyway.
Never saw the pre decimals as i was born in 1971, it's my birthday tomorrow (April 26th)☺ Good coins, to have been bagged for that long. And even a territory and love a bit of pork pie👍
My brother was born on the 15th of February 1971, decimalisation day. Whenever it comes up in a quiz I can always answer iPhones amazed that I know the date
I remember getting a ‘Thrupny bit’ each school day to buy something for my morning “leavepee’ce”. Pretty sure I got a Milkyway and a packet of crisps (?) Scottish Breakfast early 1960s.
Ok I am going to lower the tone of the conversation. For those outside of the U.K. the term ‘thruppenny bits’ was also rhyming slang for a ladies breasts. Why I felt the need to inform you all of this I cannot say 😂
I have a 1967 thruppeny bit. What’s it worth? It’s clean, clear, fully legible, has some patina & only a pinprick sized bit of black on it. These were my favourite coins. I also have a 1940 silver thrupenny bit.
Paul, where did you get the 3 pence coin board from? And do you get other boards for farthings, pennies etc? also i have a 1970 three pence, is this pucker? cheers.
Hi Paul, the board is a whitman folder, I got it from eBay. Go to eBay and search for whitman folder threepence. The 1970 would have come from a year set as non were circulated.
I decided to restart collecting coins (had done so as a schoolboy, always checking bus fare change for 1919 KN pennies!) after finding a huge stash of threepenny coins in my mother-in-law's house. Got a full set apart from the rarer George VI ones. Luckily there were no examples with the horrible corrosion that plagued this coin hunt! Can only presume the bags were kept in slightly damp conditions and that might accelerate the deterioration seen?
I would sit the thrupenny bit next to the hole instead of having to keep taking them out again when you find a better condition one, it would save damage to the album, which already looks damaged, I'm not a collector, I just think it would mean less wear and tear to album, but still that's a good wee collection, I think the threepenny bit is one of the best looking British coins minted, it's just a nice solid wee coin, even better back in day when they were legal tender, and what you could buy with them if you were 5\6 years old in the mid 60's, also I'd rather have had 2 threepenny bits, as a wee tanner , it seemed more haha, an interesting and informative wee film.
Brilliant date run, just a shame on the 1946. Only have a few thrupenny bits, and they are in terrible condition too. Nice upload CP 👍 Just hope Sue gets over thinking you said she smelled of straw! 😂😂
What are the chances to find the “Kew” of the thrupney bit? 1949 & both 50 & 51 which their mintages reflect similarly to the penny, A man after my own heart pork pie & colmans, spot on.
Best find of a Three Penny Bit, ...........a rockpool at Bigbury-on Sea in Devon. Someone had put a Three Penny Bit in a small rockpool goodness knows how long ago, sometime in the 1960's most likely. I found it in the early 1990's. It was understandably somewhat covered in green seaweed, but I recognised the shape. I just wanted to let them know that after all that time, someone had actually found it, and it was still there despite tides and seasons ! It's now in my 'treasure' collection.
The amount of corrosion in these makes the scarce years even more scarce in decent condition. Excellent hunt Paul, nice finds! I have a few bags of 1967 UNC ones somewhere.
3d coins were minted until 1967 (the last ones were dated 1967 anyway). They were accepted for about 6 months after the switchover day in February 1971.
I've a bag of around 200 threpanny bits, any mule's or special dates worth looking for? Looking for a particular one? Just give me a comment maybe I have what you need. Rob UK.
Did a lot better than expected, pity you never found a 1946. I Only have a couple of threepence’s not even sure what years I have either. Great video as always Paul. Great stuff Coin Patrol 👍🏻
Aw, man--I wish you'd have turned over the '67. If that has the same profile of the Queen, then it's probably the last example of the original portrait ever used. Now, Ima look it up...
Hey don't get these mixed up with the new one pound coins because they are the same shape but there's one difference and that's the weight of the two of them.😊
So close on getting the full date run. The same happened with me but I got a 1946 and had to purchase a 1949. And it took ages to get the 1950 and 1951 coins. I also have a 1970 threepence which I picked up for £3 😁
Nice one Paul! Very cool to see even such old bags and the rare coins are great of course! I do believe that you found a 1943 earlier and called it a 1948, but I might be mistaken too..
As soon as I saw those old paper bags,it took me right back to my youth. Thank you👍
great to see the original paper bags
Good coins hunt.
Before decimalisation Britain must have been a tourist's nightmare. 🤣

My grandpa went to britain in 1970 so that must have been a nightmare 😵💫
Loved that! Thanks for keeping us Predecimal lovers entertained Paul! Find of the hunt, the 1949.....No! The pork pie with mustard 👍👍👍
We do love the pre-decimals but also love a pork pie or pastie 👍👍👍👍
Love the original paper bags

Wow that’s amazing, love the old bags they come in as well very retro😊🧐
Really enjoyed the video 1949 awesome find. I like branston pickle with my pork pie.
Excellent hunt Paul, you've had some great luck with the rarer coins. 😀👍👍👍
Hi CP, for the king George IMP thing does it matter what year goes in it or can it be any year?
I put my 3D glasses on, sat back and enjoyed the ride. Very therapeutic 👏
Nice collection, you can get a 1970 one, they were brought out for collectors bunc version. 👍 I'd like the 1949 👌
The corrosion is mainly copper hydroxide I think. In such cases, judicial cleaning with a proprietary coin cleaner would be beneficial and you have nothing to lose really anyway.
#hi Paul, i remember saving then in a tin and spending them on holiday.
Loved video. I have 4 1915 penny coins in fair condition and one 1915 also in fair condition. Was good to go through my old collection.
Never saw the pre decimals as i was born in 1971, it's my birthday tomorrow (April 26th)☺
Good coins, to have been bagged for that long.
And even a territory
and love a bit of pork pie👍

If you go to an antique store you may find some 3p coins. You could find a 1946 there! Just a bit of advice. Overall great video!
Very nice finds. Love this type long videos
We were on the edge of our seats waiting for a 1946. The 2024 standard catalogue quotes £15 for one in VF condition.
Shame no 1946 but incredible to get the 49, 50 and 51! Great video really enjoyed it
I remember getting a ‘Thrupny bit’ each school day to buy something for my morning “leavepee’ce”. Pretty sure I got a Milkyway and a packet of crisps (?) Scottish Breakfast early 1960s.
What an awesome hunt and fill video!Missing only the rarest one (1946).Congratulations.Happy New Year!🎉🎉❤❤
Ok I am going to lower the tone of the conversation.

Nice Video shame about the missing 1946
I remember getting 3d every day for school memories thanks
Where can I get hold of an album like that? I have a full set of brass threepence coins that I collected as a child.
Hi Stephen. I get my Whitman albums from eBay.
Amazing mate it was like hunting through coins of yesteryear and finding a kew. Love the history well done bud 👍👏👍
I have a 1967 thruppeny bit. What’s it worth? It’s clean, clear, fully legible, has some patina & only a pinprick sized bit of black on it. These were my favourite coins. I also have a 1940 silver thrupenny bit.

Oooooh, vintage coin bags!
Hello, where do you buy all your bulk coin's from? I know it must be ebay but is there a seller that just sells them in bulk.
Sent
I love this channel for all the pre decimals you show

You could cover the hole with a STICKER 😉 🤣 🧚♀️
Really enjoyed that Paul 😊. Shame you didn't get that 1946 .
Love the old thruppeny bits.
You were recommended by LAFTA so here I am. Glad I did. I have a few missing from my collection though!
Spot on job lot. You sell more than pay.
Nice one!, or rather many. I have a 1943 thruppeny piece, which has a strange history.
Fantastic hunt Paul love the threepenny coin hope you get the 46 sometime again 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
i have 5 3d bits for year 1967 excellent condition going to use them as a gift for someone who was born that year.
What would my 1951 uncirculated mint condition be worth do you think? Thanks
Great hunt mate, like you said you'll have to buy the 1946 coin
Brilliant date run, just a shame on the 1946. Only have a few thrupenny bits, and they are in terrible condition too. Nice upload CP 👍 Just hope Sue gets over thinking you said she smelled of straw! 😂😂
So close to a full house!!
Need to go through your george v1 again. Do you know about the more rounded edge varieties?.££
It's George VI.
What are the chances to find the “Kew” of the thrupney bit? 1949 & both 50 & 51 which their mintages reflect similarly to the penny, A man after my own heart pork pie & colmans, spot on.
Which ones are special. I have them from 1953 - 1967
Shame about the last one. Still good video I liked it. Steve 👀👍
Some good coins there. 63 worth 4 quid. That condition.
I've a question when was the last George 6 threepence coin that went into circulation could you let me know the year please.😊
The last circulating threepence of George 6th was 1952 - The year he died.
Cracking collection paul
Great purchases and so much patience completing the date run albums
I proper enjoyed this, certainly a different hunt to watch 🤣
Oh it's Dan on friends tablet.
How to clean those brass coins?

What about the silver three penny pieces?
I've got one of those , 1874 ,
I have threepenny coins & have other coins mainly pennies $ half pennies what do I do to sell them? I am a starter
The amount of corrosion in these makes the scarce years even more scarce in decent condition. Excellent hunt Paul, nice finds!
I have a few bags of 1967 UNC ones somewhere.
Where do you get them from
Lots of searching on internet sales and auction sites Umayr
Hi I'm part of the Watson family.
Hi Sandra, thanks for watching 👍
I actually have a 1946 I love old coins 😀.
See the old bags lol nice
Enjoyable lucky dip to see.
Shame that 1946
3d coins were minted until 1967 (the last ones were dated 1967 anyway). They were accepted for about 6 months after the switchover day in February 1971.
Did the Royal Mint melt down old coins & use the metal to make new coinage? So making them more rare?
Please do a 4 pence coin video
Do they exist?
I've a bag of around 200 threpanny bits, any mule's or special dates worth looking for? Looking for a particular one? Just give me a comment maybe I have what you need. Rob UK.
Did a lot better than expected, pity you never found a 1946. I Only have a couple of threepence’s not even sure what years I have either.
Great video as always Paul.
Great stuff Coin Patrol 👍🏻
You gained a new subscriber. I like this video I am interested in old coins too.

Where do you get them from please
Nice to see real money again 😥🤗
Lol amazing video as always
Pmsl this old bag smell of straw (oi from the back of the room was that the wife?)
Yes what you want to find is 1937 king Edward 8th
Aw, man--I wish you'd have turned over the '67. If that has the same profile of the Queen, then it's probably the last example of the original portrait ever used. Now, Ima look it up...
Need to do these too.
Question:
How many threepences can you balance on end on top of one another?
Have I asked this question before?
Hey don't get these mixed up with the new one pound coins because they are the same shape but there's one difference and that's the weight of the two of them.😊
I love every one of these videos
Thank you Rich 👍👍
Getting closer to the 1000 subs come on m8 you can do it
Mintage figures for the 1967 threepence is 151,780,800. Just a few then 😁
What is a 1937 King Edward eighth 3d Bit be worth
What weird coins 😁 Fun to watch though.
3d for bag of chips😂
Very good video.
Yup chuck it boss.
Brilliant Video As Always!
What is the most they are worth
Wow where do You get these amazing coins from???
Great video, terrible background 'music'. Silence would be an improvement!
Yes, it was a bit loud. Sorry about that 👍
So close on getting the full date run. The same happened with me but I got a 1946 and had to purchase a 1949. And it took ages to get the 1950 and 1951 coins. I also have a 1970 threepence which I picked up for £3 😁
You missed the 1943 Mr McGoo
Great Video! Keep up the good work 👍
Nice one Paul! Very cool to see even such old bags and the rare coins are great of course! I do believe that you found a 1943 earlier and called it a 1948, but I might be mistaken too..
Fun fact - they made a 1970 three pence but it was for sets only
Very interesting .
