FOUR PAWS - rescue of serbian dancing bears delayed

- For almost a year, FOUR PAWS has been campaigning to rescue the three remaining Serbian dancing bears. The transfer of the bears to the dancing bear sanctuary in Belitsa, Bulgaria, was due to happen towards the end of this year. At the last moment, the Serbian government stopped the transfer, despite FOUR PAWS having all the necessary documentation.

such a relief to realise someone is actually doing something about this old tradition , hope these bears don't have to be transported to the other side of the world when people still are drowning trying to escape this kind of conditions caused by poverty and war zones. Hope nobody has to suffer

Are these dancing bears in Serbia still alive if so what is the condition of their health. What have the politicians have to win or lose by not giving a positive decision to release these animals. Votes?

I just came across this and this is HORRENDOUS!! I am Serbian and how shameful is this??? How do the owners not see the animal cruelty??? This is punishable by law in USA. Time to update your laws Serbia. A very very sad story. What happened to them and where are they today???

Frustrating...how long does it take to see that bears are suffering, even the "owners" have agreed to set em free....officials get on with it, sign the papers...show some heart!!!

when this cruelty exists there should be no chit chat, ask for the bear polite way, if they say no then tie these people up next to the bear, pack up bear for four paws , leave the owners tied up like the bear for a month or two. maybe come back to release the ex owners.

Dear animalfriends, i hope you will save these animals from the paws of people who made money of the misery of living creatures. I think the covernement over there is guilty of animal cruelty and has to be chained for a while and feel what those animals are feeling now.

It is sad. It is the people who own these poor bears who are cruel animals. One more reason to hate the gypsies.
Horrible. Poor bears. Why the delay? Even India has got its act together on ending this horrible tradition. Is there no way to improve their living conditions with proper shelter/medical attention etc until they have permission.

The issues ARE related though. Whatever the wrongs of 'bear baiting' and animal cruelty etc, I make the following point. If I saw someone walking their dog along the riverbank and they both fell in and could not get out, my first thought would be to help the person, regardless of gender or race. That would be humanity kicking in. I would'nt stop to ask their political views either. They could be a vegan with unwashed dreadlocks and a nose stud but hell we are all human at the end of the day.
They are very selfish and self serving. Let this bear go and have a better end. Perhaps you would like to not only being jailed but chained. Bears deserve a real animal bear life

You are so wrong. You wouldn't find posts HERE about that issue, would you. WHY do people like you insist on entering a site about one matter and making an alternate, completely unrelated point? WHY do some people think that animal lovers don't care about people? WE ARE PEOPLE. WE have extended people families and friends and consciences. You are wrong.
