    In 3.3.1 there’s no mention of assault in the beginner rules. It’s now in the advanced

      Yep! I don't plan on making any more OPR rules update videos until maybe v4. It's really not what I set out to do when I started this channel

    EDIT: I just wanted to mention that in Firefight /Skirmish, charging a shaken unit no longer causes them to insta-rout. (If that wasn't clear in the video)

    Played a game of AoFS by myself with the new rules. My goblins and havoc war clans didn't use assault since the highest quality in both armies was +4 and/or was not a hybrid unit. By the time round 3 came along my Tough goblin units were getting Shaken but they were pushing through it. With 3 objectives and how close the unit were they would have been sitting duck with the old rules. The result was that the goblins were able to win 1 objective and contest the other 2.

    I too like the simpler rule books for printing, but i get it. They want nicer looking packaging. Rule changes sound good though.

    I'm liking the Assault rules. My Change Warriors and Horrors with their 12" fireballs will be happy.

      Nice! They reworded the split rule a bit. I think it functions the same way as it did previously though.

    I can’t find any of these changes you mentioned I go to the website and it’s still 3.3.1 in both simple version and core rules

      Yeah, they changed the rules again a few weeks after I posted this. I decided to stop making rules update videos and focus on more evergreen video topics.

    I've coincidentally played these new rules today. I did not know they were changed, read them just there on the spot. I can't compare with the old rules because this has been my second game of GDF, first one was two years ago!. I think assault feels a bit fiddly, but at least it's satisfying and feels like a combo. Shaken I don't like - it reminds me of old Kill Team flesh wounds. More to keep track of, and the alternative, missing one activation doing nothing is just not fun. Anyway, one great evening, and met a new player.

      Also, shaken has great impact on objective seizing, like loosing contested objectives when became shaken, and needing to cover from shaken for one activation to contest them again.

      @@garrapato it always kept units from seizing objectives. They added the option to move and fight instead of removing shaken. Previously, In the full game you could fight back if you were charged but you were hitting on 6s. In Firefight you were just outright killed :p

    what board size can you recommend? i want to play opr and 6x4 feet is not accessible to me sadly.

      With deployment zones the only thing that really matters is that they're at least 24" apart, so you could play on a much smaller surface. 4'x4' or even 4'x3' would be fine.

    Assault is an awesome new action that will reinvigorate some of the more cagey units/army builds. I’m thinking Plague Brothers in particular, but any resilient armies with a decent mix of shooting and melee will gain some more “flavor” on the table.

    Hey guys I just played my first one page rules yesterday can someone explain something to me. If my unit is charged and attacked and then I hit that unit back with my surviving unit is my activation for that unit used? Or can I still move it and shoot it on my turn.

      You don't lose the activation but you would be fatigued

    Assault will benefit units with short range 6-12inches. Impact on a 3 ehh..I personally don't rely on impact but I can see an issue. Undead on a 1-2 I believe was needed but could be a bit powerful with the morale change. Overall not to worried. I suggest you move the charge before rolling the shooting in an assault.

      Idk if I think potentially losing the charge/assault due to units being removed from shooting is unfair. If I thought It was likely to happen I would probably just charge. Thematically it makes sense. You're shooting at the front row. They die and you have further to charge :p

    I do hope we see fewer and fewer updates! The greatest sin a game dev can do is to update something with the sole pupose of fucking with the players. Very common nowadays

    Can someone please put a video out about what " broken" and "blanced" means and why GW has such h a hard time doing that? Why is it so hard to put out a balanced game w/no need for updates and additions and editions!?!? Please, can someone explain thoroughly!?

      A few things come to mind on this:
      1) GW is a MODEL company that has a GAME. It's going to tweak the game to help sell MODELS. That's why GW can't rest.
      a) OPR is a GAME that is model agnostic so it doesn't have a vested interest in tweaking rules JUST to sell product.
      2) No game designer can figure out how players are going to read/interpret and abuse 'rules as written'. They need to be revisited to stop 'That Guy' from ruining everyone else's good time.

    Why do they keep making impact so shity. At this point its useless. A big ass tank comes barreling into people and they just laugh it off apparently.
    Vehicles already get screwed in melee because they can't strike back thus always losing and having to take morale.

      Assaulting is optional. The -1 to hit is to keep it from being OP. Makes sense that it would apply to Impact.
      I do think tanks should have something equivalent to stomp cuz that interaction has always felt weird.

      @hauntswargaming Ooh the 3+ for impact is only when assaulting. OK thay makes sense.
      I agree without it they lose combat every time
