  • Our gardens are changing to create a haven for people and wildlife in the heart of London.
Over spring 2024 we’ve been working to complete our two new buildings. Watch the roof go on the Garden Kitchen and the Nature Activity Centre supported by Amazon Web Services (AWS). See the first new plants go into the Evolution Garden, including tree ferns which will create a Jurassic setting for our Diplodocus cast.
The Urban Nature Project is the Museum’s response to the increasing pressures of urbanisation, climate change and biodiversity loss on people and planet.
Using the transformation of our gardens as a springboard, the Urban Nature Project is about providing people, no matter who they are or where they live, the practical skills and tools to take action to safeguard nature in their local environment.
We’re playing our part in UK urban nature recovery to make a difference to people and planet. Our new gardens are due to open in summer 2024.

Very curious from Europe. Our city department has planted sustainable and insect friendly shrubs instead of annual flowers and grass in public parks. It's much nicer looking and we can learn how to adapt our own balconies and gardens.

What happened to the old wildlife garden? That was started - well I suppose more than 20 years ago.

The Wildlife Garden, now the Nature Discovery Garden, has been protected and expanded as part of the design. We now have even more space for nature in our garden and an increased pond area that is already teeming with life.
