Craig Thompson - University of Maryland Commencement Speech - December 18, 2010

Craig Thompson - a partner with Venable LLP, the state's largest law firm and one of American Lawyer magazine's top 100 U.S. firms - was the featured December, 2010 University of Maryland commencement speaker. Thompson, who also is a member of the University of Maryland College Park Foundation board of trustees, has received numerous awards and citations reflecting his accomplishments, including last year's selection by the Daily Record as one the 60 "Most Influential People in the State of Maryland." For his work as host of the weekly radio show "The Front Page" for the past 15 years, he recently was recognized as the Best Public Affairs Host (radio) in the region.
Much of Thompson's extensive community activism involves work to improve the quality of education both locally and state-wide. He works closely with Baltimore City Public Schools, the SEED School of Maryland and conducts educational seminars around the country.
Thompson is the author of two children's books, "The ABC's of Black History: A Children's Guide", published in January 2005, and "The ABC's of Black Inventors", which was published last year. His writing also has appeared in two other non-childrens books publications: the anthology "Atonement: The Million Man March" and in "Tough Love: The Life and Death of Tupac Shakur".
