Great video, rode rock house last weekend, hated it , beat us too death!! Still had fun!!
We tried to get back to Rock House last fall but torrential rain all day kept us from getting back on that trail system. Fortunately we got to ride some others the previous days.
Great video, Mario! That is an awesome trail, I bet you need a weeks vacation to enjoy it all. Thanks for sharing, and be safe.
Gus, you're probably right. A week would be about the perfect time frame. I'm looking to get back down there at least once more if not twice more this year. Pretty sure it'll become an annual thing. It was a ton of fun and I learned A LOT.
some nice mud and playing around .. always nice to get out and have some fun . Take Care
Fun times!
Great video. Looks like a lot of fun! 👍
Great video! These are some really awesome trails!
Thanks! 👍
@@2WR I have never rode these trails but really want to go ride them soon!
WOW..great video Mario...how i miss dirtbike riding man
Thanks CM. I can't wait to get back down there and do it again!
Great vid. 👍
I live in Charleston! Great riding in Southern WV! If your ever back down we should link up!
Beautiful area to ride. My dads from Hazard KY, So we have relatives all over Virgina,West Virgina,Tennessee, Ohio and Kentucky use to go every year to visit when i was a kid. Love that area...
Definitely some fun places to ride and play in all of those areas you mentioned. Since my Hatfield McCoy sticker is good until the end of the year, I plan to get back down there once or twice more.
Mario, thanks for showcasing West Virginia's Hatfield and McCoy trails. I'm not much of a trail rider but, I've been to a few of the trails and had a good time. Living in southern WV myself, the trails are fairly close for me.
Good video!
Thanks Roy! We had a blast and I can't wait to go back. And the resident of Southern WV are some of the friendliest people there are.
We need to link up an Hit some trails. Have you done Pocahontas HM trail yet? Id Like to hit them all this year.
I figured you'd chime in on this video. I'm game! Rock House is the only one I've ridden so far. I've had some buddies ride Pocahontas and they liked it.
I smile the whole week before I go to Hatfield mccoy
Have fun!
IDK if you still check the comments after 4 years... But,i have a mini bike (Coleman 200ex)... Are there trails that can be explored with one?
Yea. Most of the UTV/ATV trails will be fine on that bike
I’m here right now and I’m scared imma get hit by a side by side
Yea. They’re getting worse.
@@2WR I’m with my dad and he’ll be riding his Side by side but still scary everyone thinks that there professional and go to fast and drink to much in the trails
U need to ride in the ky mountains try ballfork it's some real riding yee yee
Nice. Having been to Buffalo Mountain (Matewan) a few times, this video makes me want to try RockHouse, too.
In theory Buffalo Mountain hooks up with Devil Anse which hooks up with RockHouse. That said, according to last month's map (they are updated monthly) a section of Devil Anse was closed so you couldn't actually ride all the way through. They guys I was with had ridden RockHouse before. I liked it but would like to check out another system on my next trip.
I'm local. Maybe ride off-road together sometime.
I'd love to. I'll be sure to reach out before I head back down next time.
What Trail are you on when you see the rock formation at 5:45 ?
Trail 40 on the Rockhouse Trail System.
Nice Video, looks pretty wet. I rode a CRF230F my first couple of times at Rockhouse, then a KTM250XCF for a couple of years. Now I have a KTM300XCW, which is a perfect bike for those trails. Not so perfect if you take the pavement from Gilbert back to Man
I've switched to a 250XCF and cant't wait to go back to ride again.
Now that's an adventure! I am going to get me a dual sport as soon as my Harley is paid off! Thanks for taking us along for the ride! Hey, I have a question: What is better for that kind of riding a two stroke or a four stroke?
I'm always gonna say 4-stroke especially when it comes to trail riding. IMO they are easier to ride and you also don't have to worry bringing oil along to mix in your fuel. I have nothing against the 2-strokes. They're awesome for racing, cheaper to rebuild and arguably easier to tune but...for trailing riding? I'll stick with the 4-stroke.
faith biker 2 strokes are a blast on the trails, especially a solid euro 250 or 300, plenty of lug down low and plenty of scream up top.
Are you allowed to ride wherever atvs can go?
Yes
@@2WR do you recommend dirtbikes? Or should I just take my atv
@@2WR is single track difficult? I have been riding for 12 years and get out roughly 2 times a year or more.
Is there a reason you choose chest mounted camera? It's very bouncy compared to helmet mounting when off road. Just curious...
Actually a combo of chest mount and handlebar mount. The big reason was/is my new Fly helmet has a damn ridge right down the middle of it so until I come up with some sort of solution, the camera shot who've been badly tilted. Also, I personally hate having a camera side mounted so that wasn't an option. It was shot on my older GoPros since I forgot the housing frame for the Hero5. Would've been nice to see what the built in image stabilization would've worked. I'm not so sure it would've been much more stable anyway with the crappy suspension on my 230 LOL!
I'm having a hell of a time trying to figure out a mount with my Scorpion Helmet too. Bike mounting is out of the question doing hard off road. And Chest mount gives you a great shot of the handle bars. (Not what I want to be looking at). I think the best location is on the chin area of a helmet if it can be done. I don't have the patience to figure it out...I'll just watch your stuff!! lol
I'll be damned if I can figure out a way to chin mount it to my dirt bike helmet. I think Alaskan Dual Sport had some sort of chin mount but it would block ALL the air flow at that point so it's not really an option. I have some time before my next off road adventuring so hopefully I'm able to come up with a good solution. I'll be sure to share if I do.
Were they outlaws or no
Still plenty of Hatfields AND McCoys in the West Virginia/Kentucky area that can tell you some stories.
Well Well Well. I see you finally made to my home town of Man where I was born and raised. I have resided in the Roanoke, VA area for some time now. Great video, however, I've never ridden the H&M trails, we always ride on the trails we grew up on(don't have to pay). I'd like to share a little history of the town: Man is short for a guy named Hinchman. Don't know if you made it to Buffalo Creek, anyway, at the head of Buffalo Creek a coal mining damn in the early 70's broke. It was basically a sludge of mud that wiped out roughly 15 miles of homes. Many people died, entire families were killed, etc...My poor home town used to be "Almost Heaven", now it's known as "Heroin Haven". These are some of the best people you will ever meet, very kind, helpful, prideful, and friendly. If you ever go back, look me up, I'll take on some real trails there. Thanks for the vids!!!
Edward, I'll be sure to let you know. My intention was to get back there his year but it just didn't happen. Couple guys I went to college with at Marshall were from Man and Oceana.
2 Wheeled Rider can u remember the guys from Man, their names? A lot of my friends I graduated with went on to Marshall. I joined the Air Force and then went to UC. A lot of my friends also flunked out at Marshall, too much partying. LOL Keep the vids coming
Orlando Washington, Mark Golihue and Chad Lusk. Just taking a quick break from editing...have a LOT of videos coming.
@@2WR Crazy, I know all three of those punks
What time of year was this ride, April, March? Seems like it got some rain at certain points. Thanks.
April. We did experience some rain while we were there.
.@@2WR Would you recommend the easiest trails for bike adventure bikes, 800ccTriumph Tiger specifically? And thank you
You could get buy with an ADV bike on the ATV trails without much issue. Most are pretty wide and well-maintained.
@@2WR thanks, one last question, sorry, is the mud on these trails slick as goose poo or do you have some traction? Down here in Georgia, we have red clay and when it gets wet it can become like ice.
Nice compilation. Next project, put some proper shoes on the big KTM and head back there. You may want to stay away from the single track stuff with her though....
Tough to tell from the video but a lot of that single track (and I didn't film the toughest parts) was straight drop off on my left. The 1290 would be "interesting" out there. The biggest bike was came across was a KTM 525.
Hey, for future reference, I have found from my own experience the best camera mount location for off road is on the side or top of the helmet, with part of the helmet in the field of view. It has a mild stabilizing effect on the video. There's still some shake, but it's a little easier on the eyes. You can see a few of my videos on my channel. Try not to laugh at my utter lack of videographer skills compared to you ;-)
+driverdave1 appreciate the info. Since this video I’ve gone to helmet mount. I just didn’t have the time to come up with something for this one since my helmet has a ridge right down the center (ended up being a very simple fix to make it work). I’ll be sure to check out your vids.
