Some of those prices are crazy and I say that as an eBay seller who’s selling at very competitive rates, surely they are just putting that stuff back in a box and lugging it home at the end of the day?
@@blockpartyuk should they be though or should they be called out? Selling a current set (the battle bus) for more than double the RRP and the Disney villains set for £75 over RRP when it just sold out is ridiculous scalping. Same guy was selling chip and dale brickheadz for £15 more than I have been and with postage and packaging to cover the online seller has far more overheads than a convention seller
It’s ridiculous the prices, I recently went to a show and was shocked at the prices, I came home with a list of things I wanted and the prices being sold at the show and ended up saving hundreds of pounds buying on eBay and bricklink with postage included, also didn’t need to buy a ticket or parking to go to a show. Only good things about these shows are the MOC’s on display
I would love to go to a brick event, but seeing some of the prices some vendors put on their items really puts me off, charging double for items like Stitch Brickheadz imo is just daylight robbery. I understand the tables cost a fair amount and you need to make profit, but not by increasing the cost of a currently available item by 100% hahaha
Kev this is meant in a very positive way, your face shows the weight loss over the years especially since Fm22 network game when I started following. Great work whatever your method!
Maybe it's simply because I look at a lot of deals online and know the RRP for the sets that take my interest but my goodness, some of these prices are nothing short of extortionate! £30 for 76914 is a joke, the spice girls set is readily available online for less than £30, and the mark-up on newer releases like the Fortnite bus are disgraceful. I appreciate that some of these prices are fair, and there are clearly good deals to be had but it comes across as trying to find a needle in a haystack with some of these events unfortunately
The thing to remember about conventions is it’s worth paying a little above online prices for the benefit of taking it home with you there and then, not having to risk it getting damaged in the post, inspecting the box in person, etc. It’s not really fair to expect them to be the same as online prices - they’re aiming at a different market
@@blockpartyuk Don't get me wrong, I completely understand that. Plus, you know you've got it in hand if it's a Christmas gift at this point, but the sheer difference in price is what irks me. The fact that something like the Spice Girls set is almost double the price across multiple stalls speaks volumes. The polybags for circa £5 is fair given they're often 3 for 10 online but then you have to order 3, AND pay delivery, so I have no problem with things like that or selling GWPs, but I simply think a lot of stalls are prying on people not knowing their prices and paying over the odds, especially when you also have to pay an entry price. It's why I like what Iain's Bricks does - The prices are fair, reasonable and of the videos I've seen of his stall at different events, are what a good stall should be. Offering good value considering the extra time and costs involved for the seller.
Iain’s stuff is great - I’ve bought from him before. I guess the answer is for more people to follow his lead, because if there’s someone like that at every event undercutting everyone else, other prices will have to drop too.
Paying to get into a Lego convention to have the privilege of being ripped off is quite funny :), especially if you pay extra to get ripped off an hour earlier
I don’t think anybody is paying to get in just for the traders. A lot of us enjoy the experience of being at an event full of like minded people. If you’re just hunting for the best prices and don’t care about anything else, conventions probably aren’t for you.
That Simpson church i like a lot would like to build a church in that style with what i have in my inventory. Do a modern church with that steap slanted roof 🤔 so nice.
Omg I live in the Channel Islands and we don’t have anything like this here.. I would have spent a few grand there easily there so many sets I’m after.. I wouldn’t have minded if there used .
Kev! I cannot believe it me and my partner are in your video right at the end when you were crossing the road but we’re unsure if it was you. Shame to have missed you love your work mate.
From the Netherlands here. Have been in the dark ages about 25 years and since last year reignited my interest for Lego. The mark up on these events and retired sets seems normal, but are these prices normal for the UK? I paused the video at approx 11:25 to have a look at your prices..... Treehouse, £275, I recently bought it here for €210. Jazz Club £225, recently bought it for €172,50 (both new from store, both Intertoys). Bookshop and Assembly Square, £250 and £300, just last Friday bought both of these new and sealed for €160 and €250. And £1.00 = €1.20 approx. I have to say, I got lucky with the last two but still, the prices in the UK seem pretty far fetched. At 12:25 there's another Bookshop for £240 which is still ridiculous in my opinion. And still at 11:25, the Green Grocer and Cafe Corner, £1200 and £1400 but did you see? Pre-owned.... Is that normal pricing for the UK? I'm flabbergasted honestly.
There's usually several going on every weekend. The websites of the various organisers are the place to check. The link for this company is in the description.
Laughable prices at some of those stores, I mean £300 for the bricklink general store when there is multiple on eBay for £120 - £130, I think the Lego reseller market is becoming silly, doubling the price of sets as soon as they retire is only making Lego justify upping the RRP on sets. Also the prices of ‘free’ gift with purchases is getting out of hand.
Supply and demand sets the prices. If people are willing to pay those prices, then why shouldn’t people charge them? If nobody is willing to pay, then they won’t sell. There’s always room for haggling and negotiation at these events too.
Some of the prices at the events are ridiculous expensive. Trying to take advantage of a captive audience. Nice to see them in the flesh but would never buy from an event.
Whereas I'm much more likely to buy from an event than online because I know what I'm getting, know I'll see the vendor again if I have any problems and I'm happy to pay a bit more for those benefits.
Really nice to meet you in Leicester! Glad you enjoyed the day 👍

Convention prices are always going to be higher than eBay prices.

I never thought I'd open youtube and see block party at my university
It’s only down the road from us. We go past it all the time!

Nice insight to these events. I think if you were a Star Wars fan you’d end up spending a fortune

How much was the detectives office? I couldn't see the label?
I'm not sure off the top of my head. If it's not visible in the video, I don't know!
You'll have to have a live stream and we shout at you to show us the prices of each item each person wants😂
Maybe at a future show!
Hey 👋, how do you find out about these conventions and gatherings?
Are they rare or are they quite common?
There's usually several going on every weekend. The websites of the various organisers are the place to check. The link for this company is in the description.
John Lewis currently have a great deal for the Lego Boutique Hotel!!! £50 off! I picked one up for myself ahaha 🤣 Couldn’t resist!!
Yeah, it’s been that price for most of the last few months - weirdly they increased it for a few weeks around Black Friday!

@@blockpartyuk ... to pay a bit more !? The General store goes for £ 115 - £ 130 on e-bay and there is £ 300 🤭
Watch out for the fake minifigures.
I never look at them too closely, but I’d be surprised to find fake mini figures at an event like this.
