    Oh man the tip about lotion on your arms/hand/wrist was massive! I didn’t realize that was always the problem for me when I knew the HR reading was off. Thank you!

    I've used the Garmin 235 built in HR monitor along with the Scosche Rhythm+. Looking one reading overlaid by another, they were close enough that it wouldn't have made any difference in my workout. I do find that the Scosche is quicker to respond, so it's better for intervals. But with regular running, I'm fine with the Garmin. One thing that helps in cold weather is using heart rate monitor gel. This helps to maintain a better connection so that the irregular spikes are much less frequent. Great video!

      Thanks for the feedback! I live in a cold climate so I'll have to look into getting some HR monitor gel. Just the other day my HR reading were all over the place. Glad you found the video helpful, Alan!

    Thanks for the video. Very thorough. My garmin instnct was OK most of the time hiking, and road cycling (unless I hit a bump), but cross country skiing, it drove me nuts with erratic, mostly high readings. I paired it with a polar H10 chest strap... much more fun, and useful. and I hardly know I'm wearing the chest strap. No more alarming wrist massages, unless HR really is higher than I want it.

    Super helpful. I was/am super worried because as a 34 y/o runner my max HR should be 184-186 but using my Apple Watch 3 during races I get up to 203, but I always keep it as low as possible on my wrist. Hopefully it’s just wrong.

    Awesome tips. A few months ago I bought my first garmin a fenix 6 pro which is an amazing watch. The heart rate sensor though is complete rubbish. I've had various fitbits and they all had more accurate heart rate readings than my garmin which cost twice as much! (I've connected to a heart rate strap so I know the watch itself is plain wrong) Heart rate for my last easy run topped at 203 bps and I'm 46 years old. It seems to be 25 bpm higher and appearing to pickup my cadance which is often around 180-200. I've changed back to a default strap which garmin recommend - previously I've had a leather strap - will also try using my other wrist as I am seeming some red marks on my skin which could also be an factor.

      @wilco280tube Год назад

      I have the same issue with a Garmin fenix 6 that will read correctly and then switch from reading HR to what appears to be cadence in the middle of a run. I am thinking to check for software updates and also to go back to the chest strap (which I was hoping to avoid).

    Not a runner but do interval & gym work. My vivoactive 3 is so inaccurate it is hard to credit it could be so wrong. For instance before I start and I am just walking around loosening up it will show my BPM as 85 - 95. When I start training hard my BPM typically shows as 60-80 and peaking maybe to 95. In fact if I take the watch off it the rate increases. External checks show it as 40-60 BPM higher. BTW: Tried your tips & still the same.

  • @Chiyuo

    I never seem to get accurate reading with my garmin forerunner 255s, it's always too high. For example today when I was driving a car, my pulse according to the watch was 120, in reality it was around 65 (I checked it manually). Biggest issue is most likely the fact that my wrists are skinny and bony, and the watch never seems to fit properly.

      @@baginatora It depends on the mode I think to be honest. I still think in straight cardio mode it’s inflating the actual heart rate. IE No way when I’m walking in place warming up for a workout video is my heart rate 150 BPM. But running, walking, and lifting I think it’s acuteish as well.

    This technology is completely USELESS. I´m really angry today. Have never used it for training after testing it when purchased it and saw how bad it worked, so have been wearing the band all the time. I was running around 146-150 bmp as much and suddenly started to show 170 and more. Moved the watch, released and tightened the strap... nothing. But later it got even worse rising up to over 180. The result is the training load is high like crazy and it says I have to rest 4 days after recording 153 avg and 192 max, when it has been around 143 avg and 165 as much in reality. Now I don´t know how I could fix the problem on the training load as I have been successfully following it. They just sell us crap stuff. It only works for rest. It´s stupid to pay for this technology.
