I never use Global Fonts personally. Global Colours is what I use to add the palette. Then I configure the Typograhy part in the Site Settings. From there, I have control which elements will use a Global Colour. Headings will take shape from the Typography settings. For this approach, I check both boxes. Works great for me. :)
When I drop in this code I see the checkbox appear in my view, but once saved/updated, it doesn't appear on the website?! Is there some setting someone that my predecessor left on?

Any codes or server issues? Have you tried to purge your site and regenerate the CSS?
