Runners high is a real thing. If your a runner ya know, if your not, you don’t know.
I used to do the Trifecta Spartan races here in Canada; Sprint, Super and Beast. The beast of course is always the worst because they are held in the mountains.
I remember one race we were doing the Olympus Obstacle; that’s the one where you pick up a round heavy stone (men 100lbs and ladies 75lbs), carry it 20ft, drop it, do 5 burpees and then carry it back. When my husband and I arrived at the obstacle, there was 10 ladies waiting to carry the women’s stones, but my husband was the only one at the men’s. I didn’t want to get my time effected by waiting, so I asked the guy supervising the obstacle if ladies could carry the men’s stones. He said I was welcome to try for sure, but I could tell he didn’t think I could do it. Well as I carried that bloody 100lb stone, the supervisor, my husband and any guy coming in to the obstacle were cheering me on so loudly. When I finished, every guy in the area wanted to give me a high five and kept telling me how bad ass that was.

"I did a lot of sports". Guess how I can tell you played exactly zero sports for more than a day.

I love that Joey’s definition of being unstoppable is being able to eat as much as he wants and taking giant shits. I think I agree with him.

Ironman Triathlons do have time limits, one of the bigger challenges besides just having the endurance to do the whole thing is making the cutoffs. While they do vary some from race to race the typical time limits are you have 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete the swim, then you have a total of 10.5 hours to complete the swim, transition 1, and the bike, and then 17 hours to complete the whole race (so any time you don't use for the previous leg does carry over and the cutoffs are designed in a way that they do get a bit more forgiving as far s the average speed/pace required for each subsequent leg). There are also sometimes intermediate cutoffs on the bike and run leg, like you have to pass a certain mile on the bike course by a certain time, usually for safety reasons like to make sure no one is on the bike course past sunset. And as far as the run goes, plenty of people walk large parts of it or even the entire thing. If you're a strong cyclist you can usually bank enough time to make this work. Really a lot of the run comes down to mental toughness and being stubborn enough to keep going, whether that be running or walking, even when your body doesn't want to. The goal for many people doing these races is just to finish within the 17 hour time limit. I've done two of them and took a little over 15 hours each time. The hardest part is honestly the amount of training it takes. The training plans I've used are 30 weeks and that's a long time to be on a training plan.
If you're at all interested in triathlon there are much shorter ones that are very friendly to beginners, give it a try if it's something you think you'd like.
