OMG. Dar Saa Lam looks so different from what I remember. I travelled there with a group of doctors and nurses for volunteer work. This was 25 years ago. There were no tall buildings or shopping malls. only one hotel near the bay. No fast food, only Tanzanian food, natural and delicious. It was remote and primitive...no water or electricity.. But somehow I loved it...the scenery, the people...We went to Kishapu, Lake Victoria and Kilimanjaro. In the country people walked for miles day and night , no cell phones, no computers, no technology and yet people seemed happy. This was an experience I never forgot...

I am so excited about going to Tanzania, sometime next year, God's willing. Just looking at the pictures, it completely destroyed the archaic mentality I had about the Motherland. My ancient perception of the Continent has been blown away. I like the simple, low stress life style, the bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and exotic place to visit. My main concern is have constant utilities such as water, electricity and internet. I cannot imagine going without any of them for more than a day. I am also concerned about finding a reasonable priced place to live, but I am sure that these issues will be resolves before I make the trip. As a US citizen, and a citizen of St. Kitts, West Indies, I can stay in Tanzania for up to 90 days, and I do not need a visa if I am entering Tanzania with an St. Kitts passport.

    • @GrowingUpWithoutBorders

You'll be just fine and I'm sure you might experience no Internet in different parts of the country but that's all part of the experience. If the main cities you'll have no problem with connectivity. We experienced many power outages in Malawi but not in Tanzania expect fro where we stayed in Zanzibar which was powered with solar energy so when it was grey we had little electricity. You're going to love your experience there!

@@GrowingUpWithoutBorders One other thing - when you were in that busy market place, I can hear locals asking you in swahili to move out of the way...they were polite but they were also commenting that wazungu (slang for white people) were slow in walking :)

Lovely presentation but Dar es Salaam City Centre was missing. Its mainly populated by settlers from Indian Sub continent. Surprised I hardly saw an Asian face nor you visited some of the Indian restaurants which serve authentic food. Glad you and girls are enjoying the trip. Very adventurous!

Did I hear right.. Dar, which has 6 million people is expected to grow to 70 million? Who is moving there or is that the local population that's expected to grow?

They're simply going off current projections of population growth. But my hope is that in the near future they start to decentralize. Dar is overpopulated now because it's hard to make something of yourself anywhere else in Tanzania, thus most rural migrations lead toward Dar by default. But if they build up and encourage migration into cities like Dodoma and Mwanza, Dar's population growth will slow down.

Why go to 90 countries if you are just going to eat the same food as home. Tanzania has delicious food.

Yes!!!! If you watch our video from Stone Town and the one on Zanzibar, we tried some of the most amazing foods! We always laugh at the tourist that go to different countries and eat at Pizza Hut but in this video we were one those. :)
