My late husband killed himself by overdosing. When I found him, I felt nothing but relief that it was finally over. Occasionally, he haunted my dreams... chasing me down. Last time he visited my dreams was after I had given birth to my son with my 2nd husband, apologizing for the abuse he caused & that I finally had a life I had always deserved & to take care of myself & my new baby & others I would have. Yeah my dream was that vivid, he wasn't scary because I was stronger from my experience but before he left my dream, he kissed my cheek & thanked me for loving him & taking care of him (he had MS). No more dreams after that but I do think of him occasionally, he was my 1st love & husband but he made me a survivor & stronger. ❤❤❤❤

I ended up with a mild case of PTSD which I manage well on my own but sometimes it will just hit me suddenly... like someone walking up behind me (my husband found that out a couple months ago when I suddenly snapped & started yelling)...and fear raises it's ugly head & I had to go outside for air. Then I was ok. Husband is scared to walk behind me. Other than that, I'm good. I hope you are thriving & are happier. 🤗
Years ago i was young my ex brother in law beat up my sister.. my dad got his gun and went looking.. he didn't kill him but let's say he never did it again..
I think the main difference, in terms of how you feel about what happened, between this song and "Goodbye Earl" is that they are pretty different tonally. "Goodbye Earl" is very upbeat when describing the awful things that happened. Whereas this song acknowledges that what happened was questionable, but dude felt that it was the right thing to do. No matter the consequences. Which this song also acknowledges unlike the other one. It's not sad, or happy. The sound of the song is kind of uplifting, but also just more serious. It doesnt have that happy/fun vibe the Dixie Chick's song does.

There's a gray area, legally speaking, and that's with the B&E that Hardy's character confesses to. It speaks to motive. I don't know if it made it to a jury trial, but I would have wanted to be on that jury to look for any loophole to exonerate him.
This actually happened to his friend! He got 20 years and when he got out she had saved his truck for him they dated for 2 years then got married and had kids!!
I will be honest... The first time I heard this I cried, because it hits close to home. My stepsister is a abuse survivor. When I saw the night she got away from him what he did to her I almost went to the piece of craps house and beat the crap out of him like he did to her. But I didn't. I thought about the fact that she was free and safe now, so what is the point of me going and doing something that would get me put in jail. Well, fast forward about ten years and I find out that now the scumbag is where he belongs, hell, he passed away due to overdose.
I worked the streets as a LEO for a few years and did many years with State DOC (retiring 8yrs ago) now that I am not restrained by a badge I see things a tad differently then the black and white right or wrong of the rule of law. What is legal isn't always right and sometimes doing what is right isn't always legal. When the system, when society fails to protect those weakest among us it is left to rough men standing outside the rule of law to do what is necessary to preserve the peace, protect the innocent, and return civility. Some call this "vigilante justice" but for some the vigilante is the only hope to obtain justice.
He DOES show remorse for a brief moment. See 4:07 in the reaction video above. After he has shot the abuser and before he picks up the cigarette, he is looking at what he just did and you can see him exhale and kind of shudder a bit. You may have to watch that part over a few times to see it but once you see it you can't miss it the next time you watch this video.
He was not a bad man, he was not an evil man... perhaps he grew up in a house of abuse.... as he knew what had happened to her without asking... he was a man who saw a need, saw an evil and acted on that need and evil. He was a man of faith (evidenced by the court scene bridge (Oh Lord have mercy on me was not asked to the court system... it was a plea to God) and visibly evidenced by the cross hanging on his rear view mirror... was his action legal, obviously not based on the trial, was it morally just.... that is up to each individual for you cannot legislate morality... but for every victim of DV, he would be an answered prayer... and for every man... the story forces the question... "what would I do?" I recently picked up on another aspect of the acting...you can see the transfer of 'weight' from the weight on her as a DV victim... to him, as the reality of what he did sank in looking at the body on the floor... she has her weight lifted as she no longer has to live that life... and the weight of the decision he made settles onto his shoulders, heart and mind.
Think about this scenario. What he he went there with a hand gun, he knocked the door down. They get into a scuffle of the hallway. He only pulled a trigger when the guy went for his gun. Perhaps he was roughing him up, taking him to justice. And he did not have the first intent of killing him. It just happened when the shotgun come into play and then he did become judge and jury. And hangman
A hard song to listen to. My first time hearing it and seeing the video, I was in agreement with a more in the moment action. just like he did. Later I did think that I would have liked to see the guy beat up, maybe with a broke hand to not raise against another woman, but that would have required the woman to stay away from the bad guy. Sometimes the woman {in this story} stays in this worst-case scenario. A very tough song to hear. I cannot imagine the images seen by survivors, but I send a lot of good thoughts to you {my way of praying} . Y'all enjoy the good you have found. Thank you for sharing.

You're assuming she ever got away. By the time the beatings show up, an abuser has already gaslighted the victim, cut her off from her friends and family and made her financially dependent on him. I saw it happen to my mom from my very first memory. I had to be the one to step in and save her when I was 17. I put him (he was a cop) in the ICU for 2 weeks. A family friend told him to drop the charges against me. After he got out of the hospital I told him that if I ever found out he abused anyone else that I would finish the job, regardless of the consequences.
