    That "start with the calliper farthest away" is something from 75 years ago, when it was a simplex system.
    These days it really doesn't matter.
    Just, in general, be careful with brake fluid, since it's a excellent paint remover!

      Great to know. I usually do if the reservoir is disconnected from the MC. I just don't trust the rubber grommets to handle 15-20psi.

    As an added preventative measure, once you have finished bleeding ad locked off the nipple, I use the small tube that comes with Corrosion X or WD40 and squirt a tiny amount in the nipple to displace any brake fluid, which being hygroscopic will draw moisture and promote corrosion. Not my idea. I learned it from a mechanic I respect greatly here in the UK. As soon as I saw it I thought it was a great idea. again, super camera work and editing. Keep it up.

      I keep a small model making paintbrush with my anti-seize container and a bleeder nipple just might get a little bit of "anti-sleaze" around the perimeter of the _closed_ bleeder. But I hadn't thought of WD-40 inside the nipple!

      I spray the bleeder out with brake clean, putting the nozzle tube directly down the bleeder (AFTER IT'S TIGHTENED DOWN SNUG OF COURSE) so I know it's completely dry. That way if I see even the faintest amount of fluid coming from the bleeders, I know that they are leaking

    In my experience, I've never had an issue with the power bleeder. Not sure what Ferrari reservoir attachment is, but for Porsche, they are screw on so it would be virtually impossible to blow it off. Also means bleeding can be a one-person job. Ready to see the 308 inn the road!

    • @cmlf1
      @cmlf1 2 года назад +2

      Agreed. It reduces the time greatly plus the biggest issue is you are not pushing the brake pedal to the floor and in turn putting the master cylinder seal into the unpolished portion of the bore of the cylinder, therefore possibly wearing it prematurely.

    Good video Franny, but I think since you have one use the pressure bleeder, becourse when dealing with an older masterbrakecilinder the piston and cups can easy be damaged when you push them way down in the cilinder to a place inside cilinder where the brakecups have hardly ever been. The damage caused by residue in the old brake fluid. (It happened to me once) Let's hope your master cilinder lives for a long time.

    • @theundergroundlairofthesqu9261
      @theundergroundlairofthesqu9261 2 года назад

      Pressure bleeding from the master cylinder reservoir, it might happen. And you should see that reservoir swell! It's kinda scary.
      Vacuum-sucking from the caliper, a fairly tidy process!

    • @carlloftin2850
      @carlloftin2850 Год назад

      @@theundergroundlairofthesqu9261 I struggle with the vacuum bleeding from the calipers- I always see tiny bubbles - I think air is sucked in from around the bleed nipple - do you ever run into this problem

    • @theundergroundlairofthesqu9261
      @theundergroundlairofthesqu9261 Год назад

      @@carlloftin2850 Yes, I have seen that. Possible options:
      a) ignore it! I found the bubbles to be consistent and small, not like the big bubbles we're used to getting when bleeding air out of a system. (It's also good to have a small flashlight or headlamp and a clear bleeding tube to see what's going on with more clarity.)
      b) Take a finger and push on the loose bleeder screw, this (hazy memory) might reduce the amount of air passing through the threads. I think I was pushing laterally. Similar to a trick I figured out long ago for oil drain plugs -- push in as you unscrew to reduce early dribble before the sploosh. Something to do with threads, is my theory.
      c) prevent air getting past the threads by daubing a little bit of antiseize or grease around the bleeder screw where it sticks out of the caliper. This can not only prevent air going down it, but also moisture and salt when driving. I've done this without any problems.
      d) One more bleeding tip I invented on my own but later found out I was not alone: for something like a new caliper or something that really has been opened, I bop the caliper with a rubber-tipped hammer during bleeding, to shake any possible bubbles off the interior wall.

  • @theundergroundlairofthesqu9261
    @theundergroundlairofthesqu9261 2 года назад

    My brake bleeding tales & tips:
    Used to live in a rust belt city full of potholes. My fairly new VW Golf made all sorts of clanking and banging noises, but that was just the potholes. I flushed the fluid at the 2 year mark, as VW commanded.
    A few years later I found that I'd left my wee 7mm wrench on the right front bleeder and put the dust cap over the nipple, so the wrench was along for every bump and pothole.
    I'm about to start using a Motive pressure bleeder for some cars in the fleet, but I've had a lot of good luck with the CAPRI tools vacuum bleeder, which runs off an air hose from my air compressor. It's very easy to turn on and off. I believe Harbor Freight sells a cheaper version, and considering it's a plastic pressure chamber and a venturi, it shouldn't be hard for HF to get that right.
    Another nice feature of the CAPRI bleeder is that a small diameter scrap of copper tubing fits in the rubber nipple on the brake bleeding hose, and you can insert that copper tubing into brake or power steering reservoirs, and quickly suck them dry (or lower their overfilled state), it's much tidier and easier than the ol' turkey baster.
    Years ago, in my parking lot days, using a clear tube to bleed with, I learned just how quickly those bubbles move as soon as you close the bleeder or stop the pedal from moving. I also learned that you can really see the bubbles better in the dark with a headlamp on. (And clear tubing!) (Also, vacuum bleeders are deceiving, because they suck air past the threads of the open bleeder nipple, so if you see a constant stream of bubbles, that's not from the braking system, so don't worry.)
    In those parking lot years, I also invented this, and now, in my youutbe years, I've found other were people doing this: bleeding a brand new caliper or one that's been disconnected? While you're bleeding, give some boppity boppity to that caliper with your rubber-tipped hammer, it might release some air bubbles that were clinging to the wall of the interior. (You know, the Craftsman hammer with a red rubber tip and a yellow plastic tip!)
    I only learned about this a few years ago: some master cylinder reservoirs have a divider wall between front and rear circuits and you really need to fill that reservoir to get fluid into the back half. I learned this the hard way by using my CAPRI vacuum bleeder to really suck the lines dry going to the rear caliper on my old Benz. I had been peeking into the fill hole of the reservoir and thought that was the level! No, that was the front brakes' level.
