not saying feed them out of bowls and make them a scratching post bc that would be weird lol

Freaking major KUDOS to you for making such an outstanding tower! Your cat is one lucky kitty to have a friend that truly knows what a cat likes, needs and appreciates. Beautiful design and I can see that a lot of care went into the project. Looks better than the ones you see on sale for $200-$300.

Our old cat trees are carpeted, and have held up very well, but they are older, and I guess they used better material. As far as movement, it's the towers that wobble. Our MCs won't go on the one I got as a gift for our surprise litter of kittens. They still use it. But it really wasn't sent for the MCs' use anyway ツ It was such a nice thing for my friend to send I never told her how awful it is. It IS the thought that counts - right? And it was a great gift.

I overhaul abused cat trees for a local cat rescue. To make the overhaul last longer I wrap the vertical posts with 3/8" sisal rope bought in bulk from Amazon. Rope will last far longer than carpet. I do make some verticals with carpet for cats preferring it.

Thanks, you've got some good tips on cantilevering them in here, too. I admit I'm lazy and would use dowels/closet rod cut to length for the interior of the PVC/joint support. I think I can do this almost free, I have a lot of PVC (and wood and carpet scraps....and you're right, go to a carpet store, some will even give the bits away rather than have to fill the dumpster with the scraps from an install job) kicking around, so it's a great use for it. Probably have enough fasteners and glue, too! Weekend project, thanks:) Hope kitty is enjoying it...

Joseph Nichols Hammer and nails will work ok as long as you use wood glue on all the joints. the glue joint is actually stronger than the wood itself. if you ever test it you will see that the wood will break next to the joint leaving the glue still there! Thanks for watching joseph!

OMG! that was awesome! Looks so easy but I know its not and it requires many hours. wish I had that talent. I have a small desk with a removable drawer outside in the porch, that my cats jump on and sunbathe and I'm always thinking of doing something with it.

building a cat tree myself. gonna be super boring and make it very square shaped. im using plywood for the base. then 4x4's for the poles. and then square pieces of plywood for the steps and "stories" of the cat tree. this is really only because i just have to use what we have left in the garage from previous projects xD. i was also thinking of getting a half gallon of contact cement to attach the carpeting to the wood. i might have to borrow my dads nail gun for finishing touches.

***** i finished it! took me about three days to build. i didn't make a video of the process, but i'll make a cool video showing it off with the kittens on it. i'll do that within the next week or two.

Building cat gyms is so fucking fun, I love this video. Good idea on the wood pucks holding the pipes, I'm gonna do that for sure. 15+ pound cats throwing themselves at things with reckless abandon requires some proper sturdiness.
