I think you will enjoy your purchase. I am quite sure you will also like the quality of the pictures they are capable of producing. My first SLR camera was the Zenit E.
This is the first Kiev 4M video I've watched that shows the connection of the ASA dial to the light meter. Mine has a Jupiter 8 lens. I'm picking up a two part adapter so I can also use the lens on my Fuji X system. We'll see...it's also.coming from Ukraine. It's a fussy camera. Lining up the rear cover with the edges plus the take up "reel" requires some repetition and experience. That take up reel has to be perfectly vertical, even though It's easier to apply the back with it upside down to see where It's edges are. Plus, placing the lens back on must be done with the interior Helicoid set to infinity and even then, a slight tilt of the lens helps it seat properly before rotating on and it locking in place. In other words take both off and on for a while in repetition to gain a little hand memory beyond what the manual tells you. Then there's the bulb setting...
Hey man, nice to find this video although I didn't get all of it hahaha. I love photography but I'm not experienced with the subject, I've got this camera when I visited Tallin and now I'm struggling to learn but I will manage thanks to you.
The camera uses the GOST scale which is 90% of the ASA/ISO scale. The dial is located on top right, of the camera, connected to the Rewind knob. A reading of 100 will correspond to an ASA of 90, and so on... Turn that dial(the inner one) to align with the small arrow indicator to set your ISO.
I just got a Kiev 4am today, I am new to photography, so I hope this is a good starter camera. Unfortunately I found out the hard way, that you have to wind the film first before choosing film speed.
Great review, thank you! I just bought mine a week ago and keen to try it this week. I have a question, the film spool it came with the camera is one I have never used and I can't attach the film properly, hence not used the camera yet. I think it's the same one from your camera. Could you make a video showing how to load the film on this specific spool? I think I have to cut the tip of my film to stay a bit slimmer to fit in the spool openings (if that makes sense). Any suggestion would be welcomed. Thanks in advancde
Hi Ben, another great video. Got a Kiev 4a, same as yours but without the light meter. Also picked up a Jupiter 12 (35mm f2.8) as well. Good to see plenty of movement on that light meter, they're usually weak or broken. Some background information on the Kiev 4 can be found at: - www.mikeeckman.com/2015/05/kiev-4-type-3-1969/ if you haven't discovered it already.
My dad used this camera when he was in university and gave it to me years ago ✨
That must be a sentimental camera for you, Ade. Thanks for watching 👍
Very interesting how you open the package! Do it couple more times
That's what we all waiting for

The, "Contax hold," First finger on the shutter, second on the focus wheel - the other 2 fingers fall naturally below the rangefinder window.

O.K. maybe a little late, but I really enjoyed your review.

Me too, there’s a lot of little things I didn’t know about. And am currently learning through, watching these overviews.

I have heard the camera can be finicky that way, but so far I have not had that problem.
Thx for telling me
Any ideas on where I could send mine to have it fixed? :)
