Gayatri, looks 67 than 87-year-old. She appears to look so young despite once being a hardworking elephant. Maybe now she bares the last pair of teeth so handlers must be careful what she eats! At 87 Gayatri must be one of the oldest captive Asian elephants alive . May she have a longer, healthier life. ❤🙏
The thing Raja ji said about Gayatri... She is the reason they have food for family and she has right on all Frist msngoes, bananas and fruits... Its such a heartwarming thought... He treats her as part of family and cares for her
Wonderful manner to treat these gentle giants. Fully social life, (they can crack up, without this), regular food and attention. Very many of the "temple" elephants lead a miserable life. Sometimes knowingly and sometimes in ignorance. Most of the elephants in temples are kept most of the 24 hrs on a hard, substance, that does not give. Generally, granite. In the wild most of their time, they spend in the open, which is soil. And soft. Which their heavy bodies need to act as a shock observer. Whereas, in captivity the keepers generally make the flooring of their sheds in concrete. Why? Maintainance is easier. Whereas actually standing on these rock hard surfaces invariably lead to spondilitis or knee problems. And then those long walks on macadamised roads. That, for them is pure torture. Why, once in Srirangam, i saw a female eating good sized laddoos by the score. Sure target to diabetes! They are one of the most social animals, ever. Lonliness kills them. One of the TN CM,s very kindly made them spend time, once a year, in elephant camps. Definately more condusive to a healthy period than their normal lifes. The mahouts, too get to know how to look after them in a better manner. This beautiful giant for sure needs a better life. Kudos to Karnataka state to look after them in such a great manner. Hope this catches on throughout our country. Wish them well.

As a kid I used to roam around B park , then with my kids visited the park every so often , the natural death of elephant happens when all the teeth are eroded , its death by starvation , usually around 60 yrs .
Capturing and chaining wild elephants is unspeakable abuse and ill treatment which shud b penalised by the law Wild life protection act does not seem to exist
They explained in the video. Chain is to slow down their movement so that they don't wander too far away during night like 20/30 kms away and chain sound helps mahout to find them. Else its difficult to track elephants in thick jungle . Despite their size elephants can be very quiet.
Safari don't go totally waste of money and time...butterfly waste.....don't eat anything in hotels....everything is double price for food and drinks 😢 😢😢

You only see it as abuse right?
How sad!
can't they use electronic collar / neck tags rather than chains to track the elephants?
34 years is almost half her life wat do u mean by she wasn't captive always
.. 😒😏😏
They meant it was initially wild animal before it was captured
Just a curiosity is these elephants are there along with tigers or a separate retirement corridor is there. Thank you
they are always separated
