    @fraktalfabrik Also, the S2 now comes with 2x4 sample decks to put in your own loops, and porting them over from something like Maschine is incredibly easy - just drag and drop. I´ve got the S2 and Maschine on pre-order for just that purpose. You don't have to DJ other people's tracks exclusively, or even at all. Controllerism blurs the line between other people's tracks and original content, and I like it a lot. You should give it a chance.

His timing is pretty awesome watch the kontrol s4 ean golden clip. I don't know the guy but you have to admit he has the skills to pay the bills. Still come back to this vid 6 years later because the remix is seriously dope and the performance still mesmerizes me, Ean Golden might have moved creatively to more House/Techno sort of vibes these days but I loved his more bass oriented performances big ups anyway to Ean for whatever path he follows 👐

      MacJunior696 I would of been roughly 15 and this performance blew my mind then and still does to this day. I was just starting out DJing roughly around that time and lost my mind at the possibilities from live performance in DJing. Still a bit away from that goal but it still blows my mind to this day. Like this sort of stuff started the whole button pushing/controllerism performances these days.

    He's not scratching. He's remapped the jog wheels so that instead of scratching/navigating the song, they now control effects. You can see in the video when he moves the jog wheels the effects sliders move along with it. For example, at 0:10, the effects panel on the top right is in sync with the jog wheels' movement. This occurs throughout the video.

  • @HeadsetHistorian
    @HeadsetHistorian 13 лет назад

    @IIDeMIZex The Numark Mixtrack does need a soundcard, but the Numark mixtrack "pro" has one built in. It's also pretty good sound quality, rivaling the audio2dj when I've compared them. The mixtrack is actually quite reliable, it's a good size and has all the features you'd need like touch sensitive jog wheels. Saying that the S2 and S4 are more solidly built but you get what you pay for, the mixtrack is great value and you could easily resell it. It's good for finding out if DJing is for you.

  • @HeadsetHistorian
    @HeadsetHistorian 13 лет назад

    @lockandtalk Because it's zoomed in. Just an aesthetic thing that looks cool really, there is no benefit to zooming in that close when you're playing live. It's handy for zooming in and getting the grid just right, or checking out what's going on in better detail but for when a track is actually playing it's totally pointless having it zoomed in that far other than to look cool and more complicated than it actually is. :P

  • @HeadsetHistorian
    @HeadsetHistorian 13 лет назад

    @IIDeMIZex Vinyl is damn expensive haha, you can get very cheap cd decks though but they aren't great. Personally I would start on a Numark Mixtrack pro, it has everything you need and is extremely cheap yet still professional enough to use for gigs. I often use it at show with no problem whatsoever! If you look up tutorials on DJing using Vinyl/CDJ's and emulate it on that controller then you'll be on the right path! It may seem boring at first but the basics will lead you to be the best later!

  • @HeadsetHistorian
    @HeadsetHistorian 13 лет назад

    @IIDeMIZex Not to sound oldschool but you should probably try learn on vinyl or cdjs first of all, get the concept of beat matching and the extreme basics done first. Controllers make it too tempting to click sync and forget the basics which are the building blocks. I use controllers myself and love it, I'm not an elitist or anything but the old school ways are still important and relevant. To answer your question though, 2 decks is definitely easier and also cheaper! Go with the S2. ;)

    Hopefully picking one up Saturday, Selling my old Pionner CDJ 100s X2 & Numark Mixer. I use Pionner 1000 MK2 / 3 in clubs but dont have the room in the studio for them so this is the perfect upgrade! Powerful, small & has everything I do in clubs on 1000's & DJM mixers plus more!

  • @music18500
    @music18500 12 лет назад

    its good, but it has a few bugs of which I have found from using it in the past year, Its cool but I don't think it would be ready for playing live in a club yet due to these small glitches (skipping, not responding/ delays etc). but it is still amazing

  • @HeadsetHistorian
    @HeadsetHistorian 13 лет назад

    @radames305 Very unlikely that there will ever be one. The x1 is designed to compliment other controllers, particularly vinyl and cdj control. It's not designed as a standalone controller, that is what the S4/S2 are for, the X1 compliments these also.

  • @HeadsetHistorian
    @HeadsetHistorian 13 лет назад

    @GermanTechnoBoy If they didn't leave out the dedicated filter knobs then it'd be perfect. Saying that, I'm going to be using it with an external mixer and an mpd for cues/sample deck controls so it still suits me perfectly!

  • @HeadsetHistorian
    @HeadsetHistorian 13 лет назад

    @AntonZvonarevVlg That's the way anything is done live, you prepare it, practice it and then perform it. No different from a guitarist playing live really, just the medium/instrument is different. :)

  • @HeadsetHistorian
    @HeadsetHistorian 13 лет назад

    @IIDeMIZex Although if you can afford an S2 then I would go for it soon than the mixtrack, it's just the S2 will probably be 3 times the price, you know?

    @Rid-iculo-us 13 лет назад

    @Darwinist Agreed that it's about making noises in order to evoke an emotional response. However to say that Traktor is doing that is rather short-sighted and naive: Traktor doesn't *make* any noise. It merely takes the work (or noises) someone else (usually more talented and successful) had already produced and then modulates/distorts them. These noises are then re-labelled, re-packaged and even re-sold to increasingly more and more naive audiences.

  • @Rid-iculo-us
    @Rid-iculo-us 13 лет назад

    @ddogthepimp I'm not against controllers- hey I have one .. actually three.
    It's this worship of DJs and the bubble-gum-culture surrounding it. Believe it or not, but I've been in the music industry producing and performing for nearly 30 years (yes dance music and yes, I'm old) and it's just sad to see really talented musicians getting nowhere whereas guys with seemingly little to no talent stealing what should be their show. No, not all DJs are talentless, but it takes very little these days

  • @Rid-iculo-us
    @Rid-iculo-us 13 лет назад

    @DefaultAnonAccount I don't really care what you like or don't, but rest assured I can do this anytime, anywhere with real gear and better.
    And here's another difference between a REAL MUSICIAN and a DJ: If you're performing with an *instrument* and you get bored, tired or loose concentration you can't just sit back and watch the record spin. You constantly need to "feed the audio stream" or there is none or it sounds wrong. Now, don't tell me that happens on turntables.

  • @Rid-iculo-us
    @Rid-iculo-us 13 лет назад

    @ddogthepimp ...yawn... I won't waste much time, but note this:
    a) oscillators GENERATE waves - you don't put them "through" them
    b) sadly, yes, most people are so degenerated these days that they don't need to be impressed - if that makes me elitist: thank you :)
    c) "controlling electronic devices is harder" - sure. Turning a knob with one hand whilst holding headphones up to one ear is much harder than sitting on a 88key piano and pressing down 10 fingers independently - syncronised. get real!

  • @Rid-iculo-us
    @Rid-iculo-us 13 лет назад

    @ddogthepimp Get your facts straight. A producer produces, a composer composes and a musician plays instruments. Some ppl do all of these, but most *DJs* don't possess any of these skills. I have worked in this industry for the better part of my life and whilst it might be enough to impress the amateur and non-musician, most producers' skills on instruments leave a lot to be desired. Sadly the public (=you) is impressed if someone makes a track "out of wave forms" (what else?!). I rest my case

  • @Rid-iculo-us
    @Rid-iculo-us 13 лет назад

    Is it true that DJs simply take real artists' music, then pretend that they did something "creative" with it by adding a tad of flanger or do a very clever X-fade to the next song (without having to sync tempi thanks to technology)? I'd like to see this guy play a guitar, piano or the drums. The times of real musicians are over. Finger-monkeys have taken over. Then again, hardly surprising in the age of the Justin Biebers where sales trump artistic integrity anytime. Good bye, music

    Hi buddy... I had exactly this very same problem. Just browse and install the GAME BOOSTER software and open traktor with this program. It'll do. Looks like it's a fault from the Traktor version bundled with the S2. I installed the Game Booster 3 app and ran Traktor Pro from it, and it was solved perfectly. Try it.

  • @MSDJALC

    @0wlcity0 Dj ergo doesn;t seem very good, strictly for people whp are just starting. The pioneer ddj t1 is good if you want four channels and like traktor, the ddj s1 is good if you like serato. This controller seems nice but I would persnally perfer the ddj t1, I got to use it at DJ Expo and it seemed great.
    Hope this helped.

  • @Rid-iculo-us

    @DuleTheMan "everybody can learn to play piano, DJing is way more complicated". Hahaha, thanks dude. Hardly ever laughed so much. Ignorance truly is bliss. That's like saying everybody can be a painter - taking a photograph is way more complicated, cause you need to decide where to put the lens. Get real!

  • @RobCartwright
    @RobCartwright 13 лет назад

    @Mikelynch112358 I agree with you partially. While I will allude to the possibility of a remix sounded good or bad (and it taking some degree of talent to do so), DJ equipment isn't really an instrument. An instrument is something used to make music, DJ equipment is something used to play someone else's music.

  • @Nbomber
    @Nbomber 13 лет назад

    @fraktalfabrik dude get over it, its all music at the end of the day, ean golden may not have wrote or produced that song, but it does take amazing skill to remix a song on the fly like that. btw i noticed in a previous comment that you said " rest assured I can do this anytime, anywhere with real gear and better. " well lets see a video of you doing so. and dont say something smug like "i wont waste my time doing that", if you really think your THAT great then stand by yourself and prove it.

  • @mattstone12
    @mattstone12 13 лет назад

    I disagree. Technology is not replacing talent, your watching the wrong DJ's.
    Elitism does exist sadly, but I find only in specific genre's, most notably Hip Hop.
    Technology enables you to achieve more in the same space and time (than you could with analogue equipment) so the burden of responsibility is on the performer to come up with something different. It's like saying your GF holds you down, then when she dumps you, you still stay in all the time.
    I want an S2 btw.

  • @Darwinist
    @Darwinist 13 лет назад

    @fraktalfabrik Well think about it this way: I love the original "Enjoy the Silence" track. It's one of my favorite synthpop songs. But I also love this version. And Depeche Mode never released this version. That's Ean Golden's version. Without him, this particular set of noises would never have come together. Does a lot of the creativity still come from Dave Gahan's awesome voice? Sure. But Ean's version puts a new spin on it.

  • @Darwinist
    @Darwinist 13 лет назад

    @fraktalfabrik
    It's not about harder or easier. The electric guitar is a fairly simple instrument compared to many others, yet it dominates popular music, and most of the greatest songs of the last 50 years only utilize a fraction of the possibilities of playing guitar.
    It's about making noises and combining noises that have an emptional impact on people You can do that with anything, simple or complex, including Traktor and a good controller.

  • @ddogthepimp
    @ddogthepimp 13 лет назад

    but to control multiple samples/oscillators (and yes i know they generate waves it was a miss placed word) takes a certain type of creativity to be able to match these all up. and judging by how nimble his fingers are i'm sure he could "press 10 fingers down independently in sync.
    you're comparing 2 things that are in different leagues. piano has been around for hundreds of years and controllers are less than 10. that's like domesticating a lion and saying a dog is more awesome. its not.

  • @ddogthepimp
    @ddogthepimp 13 лет назад

    @fraktalfabrik you are so smug its un believe able. why are you even watching this if you are so against controlers? would you prefer to play at a night club on a bloody piano? no (i hope not at least). honestly i hate how you keep comparing playing a piano and a controller. a piano you are making the music. on a controller you are doing exactly that controlling it. it takes years to learn the piano, to get your fingers nimble enough. anyone can do it. its easy if you do it long enough...

  • @ddogthepimp
    @ddogthepimp 13 лет назад

    @drumguyrobc i can play the piano the guitar and the drums. i record my own samples live. then produce tracks. i'm new to production software so i'm still learning but i use the S4 with an apc to mix my own made sounds with some and DJ loops from beat port or ones that i have created.again i'm still new and i don't like putting something out that's shit but its a lot harder than actually learning the instrument. its not all about producing tracks i also like the live mixing which is hard as hell

  • @Mikelynch112358
    @Mikelynch112358 13 лет назад

    @fractalfabrik although I agree that these days sometimes music is too easy to make and mind numbing songs are churned out one after another I don't agree with your bashing of DJs! Music is an art form that is constantly evolving and so are the methods, techniques and instruments that make that music! It is ridiculous to say that most DJs are musically void of any talent or skill! Just because an instrument is hard to play doesn't make the music it plays automatically better! Sometimes its pure

  • @ddogthepimp
    @ddogthepimp 13 лет назад

    @fraktalfabrik dubstep. sorry mate its the most mainstream electronic music (in the US) is basically a shit load of waves put through oscillators with a drum beat. you dont have to be impressed to like something. this is my point. your you elitest, "i can play the piano, Guitar, and drums better than you, 'REAL' instruments" pricks cant get over the fact that not every one has the same taste in music. but controling electronic music to do what you want on the spot is a hell of a lot harder...

  • @RemcoPeggeman
    @RemcoPeggeman 13 лет назад

    @fraktalfabrik Im sure this guys is capable of playing the drums, guitar and/or piano. The likes of the public has changed, bands aren't in the top40, but production-teams are. You don't put up studioracks on the stage, you put the DJ on stage. Then there are guys like Ean Golden, who take some of this productions, and transform it, rebuild it, live, on stage. I think that is some kind of art. And so they are artists..

    basically the way its setup to work on the s4 is theres an option to make the two "load" buttons make ur jogwheels work as the controls to the effects. When the load button is pressed to make the jogs work under effects mode...they no longer have any control over skimming through the track. Basically using the jogs to control the effects allows more precision over the effect, and also after you release pressure on the job, the effects revert back to a certain amount,(which you can easily chang

    It's like taking a picture of a Picass or Dali painting, then running it through a filter in Photoshop and putting it up in an exhibition as your own 'original' work. Only difference is that the general client base of visual exhibitions is a bit more critical and would not be fooled that easily.

    @remcopeg I agree, the likes of the public have changed. Sadly. Skill, musician-ship, talent... these are all things of the past. These days it's about making money. I'm not saying there are no skilled DJs, but come on, it's piss-easy these days, especially "producing" dance music.

    You claim to be here to see the capabilities of the S2, but you've spent most of your time standing over the fact that you didn't like the resulting remix and that you're entitled to your opinion.
    If you don't like it, why not just comment on the S2, ignore the remix (which lots of people DO like) and move on.

    @GuitarToneFreak Technically you COULD make your own stuff by using a shit tone of samples and effects and loops, but you would have to be very, very skilled to do so. Unless you are like Ean, Traktor Pro is best and easiest used for just mixing, though with a controller like the S2, mashups and remixes like this are a lot easier.

    than 6 strings or however many keys are on a piano. this guy has basically turned his turn tables into an mpc. i would LOVE to see you try this.
    when was the last time you enjoyed music instead of insulting it? now this is you tube so i expect a completely irrational flame war back in my face... try and not do this.

    @accord6spdV6 Even insiders at the Depeche Mode camp do not know yet. Nor if it will ever be released. Note: what we do not know, what we cannot see in this video, is the amount of work to get all the samples and loops right. We do not know the raw source material he uses to create this. Definitely not just only the single version ;-)

    By software he meant Piratebay. That's why it was cheap. That's the sarcasm i thought was funny.

    the jogwheels are mapped to the three chained fx, which are increased/decreased "exponentially" ... he turns the wheel, beatmasher "increases/decreases" by "four", the "PFTR" (?) by "two" and the reverb by "one" ... you can see it starting at 0:34. funny mapping

    @ElectronicIntervals the S2 is available for pre order at the DJ Techtools store for 599 and comes with traktor pro 2. mixtrack pro will run you 250. traktor pro 2 will run you 200. yeah its cheaper, but the build quality or support isnt anywhere near the same as NI's stuff.

    i looked up for this but found not how to change settings because normally you can't change the standart-assignment for the Kontrol S2 in the Setting-menu of Traktor:/ but ean golden has it managed too so it must work;)
    Tell me if you managed;)

    @264Virus Controller settings, then delete the thing already mapped to the jogwheels, click "Add in" and then select what you want them to control, and then click learn, and touch or move the jogwheels depending on what you're mapping.

    @jalo46 The link doesn't work yet because NI hasn't officially announced this to the public. DJTT found and posted this video on their forum early, even before ean made a blog post about it. The link will work in the near future.

    you just have to remap it in settings to have the jog wheels control certain effects. idk why you would want to do it tho, u have like 4 effect knobs and then u couldn't use the jog wheels to find cue points and shit

    So, and this may be a stupid question but I'm new to Native Instruments' stuff, can you use the software that comes with this to make original music - or is this strictly for remixing existing tracks? Thanks for any help!

    @yadeadson Times change, so do styles. Is called progress. You either move with the flow of progress and enjoy it or you stay back and bitch about it. Either way, is not our problem yet we respect your opinion.

    @shmorider i heard the mix on your channel, you just press the play button, you dont actually mix. mixing is when two songs r playing at the same time and in sync. not to be negative but your "electro mix" does not cut it.

    @ElectronicIntervals Good point, but i use the x1 with a soundcard and traktor and connect straight into a clubs mixer...also know lots of people that do the same. It would be awsome if they did, just a thought :)
