Indeed a masterpiece, beautiful polyphonic writing, voice leading, everything seems essential. I like especially the scherzo with the spooky atmosphere (d minor seems particularly difficult for intonation by string players I believe?). Thanks for uploading.
Very competent composition, especially regarding counterpoint, but low on melodic interest. I don't know where I've heard that before about lack of memorable melody (maybe from Virgil Thompson), but I think it's true here.
Arlecchino is not a too shabby work either. I think that Busoni being an odd duck baffled many. Difficult to place. And that is exactly what I love about Busoni. He did his own thing regardless of styles and fads. Great man.
Arlecchino I enjoy quite a bit. But even so, melody might not have been his strong point. I have Anthony Beaumont's biography of Busoni. I definitely think he's an underrated composer. S. Richter thought he didn't have it.
Busoni is simply my favorite late 19th century-early 20th century composer.

Just heard it for the first time and found it amazing
Thank you for making this available.
One of the themes of the allegro reminds me of the opening statement of Shostakovich’s 5th.

Well not sure if Virgil Thompson comes even close to Busoni's craft. Let's talk about that.
I think this aspect of Busoni came out in a review of Thompson's of a performance of Arlecchino in the 40's. I think in New York.

@@antonioiorio9421 I know all of those pieces. Melody was not Busoni's strong point.
