A Mini Sketchbook Exhibition...Because Small Is Beautiful!

- Hello Sketchers!
Another couple of months have passed since my last sketchbook exhibition. This one is a little haphazard, more than usual I think, because there are some little animal illustrations done from my imagination (with a little help from the internet for photos of animals). I love writing down recipes with animals as the cooks, and if it's animals I know (my terrier Reuben) or animals I see living around me (pheasants, badgers, foxes) then for some reason it feels very satisfying. We are animals, after all, and I feel closer to those who live and breathe the same air as me, feel the same rain and wind as I do, with every passing year. This is my response to that, I guess. I hope you like them because I can feel more local animal recipes on the way!
(That means "doing" the recipes, not "in" the recipes, although it kind of does because there are recipes with local mussels and local salmon coming soon...)
This is - once agan - an A6 sketchbook because I find it super-convenient and so quick to fill a page, which means if you want to take your time you can really do something detailed or complete.
Don't forget you can join my merry band of sketchers from just €14.95 per month - there's a brand new free class up on my website, or it will be soon.
Here's the "free sample" section on my website:
roisincure.com...
...but the new class, which I am confident you will love, will be there very soon.
See you next time!

Such a cute sketchbook, I love it ☺☺☺
Thank you Chantelle!
The pheasants cooking was hilarious. Love it. Spotted the gulls flying over Mc Donald’s, nice touch. I am so inspired by this video and your sketchbook is wow.
You’re very kind Marie Louise! I do find my sketchbook a fab sort of playground where there are zero rules. More cute animals to follow (that I’ve yet to learn how to draw 🤓)
Hey Róisín. Are u interested in working with Paul Rubens?
I don’t know who that is but I might be?
Goodness who would have guessed that little terrier was so good in the kitchen. I would like a whole book of animal cooking illustrations
On the way Chloe, I’m doing a heron today ❤️
Fun video and great sketches! So very full of life and brilliant colors! Thank you for sharing with us Roisin. Happy Sunday from sunny Connecticut! ☀️
And a happy Sunday to you Kathy from a cold and grey Galway! Reuben and I are heading out to enjoy it now nonetheless! ❤️
Oh my goodness, Róisín! I’ve just recently subscribed so I’ve a ton of catching up to do but… listening to you makes me realize how much I miss my beloved Ireland (and my ex-mother-in-law, also adored, God rest her). So I’ve also decided to go all-in feet first and joined the VIP club, as it were. I’m a beginner so, this should be interesting. But enough about me!!
I absolutely LOVED your sketchbook tour and all the stories, SO fun!! I’ve always admired your sketches (I used to want to be an urban sketcher 😆) and these were just, WOW!!
Thank you so very much for this and sending love from the snow-covered (yes, expecting 30cm of the white stuff) land that is Pembroke, Ontario 🤗❤️✨☃️🇨🇦🧣💫
Hello Didi! A big hello and a huge welcome to you! It’s late here so I’ll keep it brief but you’ll be hearing lots from me…see you on Saturday! 😘😘
lovely book. your drawings are fabulous and the recipes are extra cute. thank you
A pleasure and thank you x
I enjoyed every minute of your tour. Loved the boulangerie as well as the animals cooking. Especially the fox 😊. O and the cups in grey. So almost real. I love your style. Thank you for showing.
Thank you for your generous comments!
Love all your sketches! The animals cooking are so sweet. 😊
Thanks so much!
I loved your tour! It's so much fun to see the cafes and family scenes. I really liked the cafe where the person at the counter was see-through, and I adored the animals cooking.
Aw thanks so much! I’m really glad you like my little animals, I love doing them, who doesn’t love animals?!
For sure! I put some in Shakespearean outfits one time, and it was such a blast 😍@@roisincure
I really love your animal recipes. I’m going to try to do a whole sketch book with just family recipes for my grown up babas 😆. Delightful sketches Roisin 💕
That’s a great idea Lorraine. Take your time and enjoy the sketching!
13:13 Hi Roisin! You can use clear gesso on top of acrylics to get the watercolour to stay put. Alternatively, clear watercolour ground might be a good idea. I loved this sketchbook tour!
Thanks! In the end I put a layer of watercolour on top and it worked, probably acted like a watercolour ground. I didn’t want to make my students have to work that out!
“Sometimes rain isn’t as romantic as I think it is. It was just miserable.” Ain’t that the truth
Totally! Sometimes it’s just…why does it have to rain so much in this town? 😂
I'm living for your Animal Chefs, they are just the cutest!
Thanks so much, that’s lovely to hear!
I really enjoy your channel so much! Thank you for bringing us along for your sketching experiences.
Thank you very much!
A treat, as always, Roisin. Thanks for that delightful sketchbook tour.
Thanks Gabby! 🥰
I loved your sketchbook tour video ✨ my favourite pages were the recipes 😽
Thanks so much Chiara, that seems to be a recurring theme!
I love it all!! Especially the animals cooking 🍳 so fun !!
Thank you Lisa!
Once again, very inspirational. Thank you.
Thanks so much!
We just tended our daughter’s family dog and he loves his crate too.
Yeah - and it’s so useful for the “parents”! Win-win 😍
Love the animals cooking. Pheasant is too cute
Thanks so much, it’s loads of fun! It’s proving very popular so I’m thinking of designing a course so people can turn their own cute local animals into recipes ❤️
@@roisincure I would love a class on that.
@@Judi-Graff great to hear that.
Thank you for sharing your great sketches!
A pleasure!
New sub, you’re just fab!!❤
Thank you Nathalie, I appreciate that! 😊
Thankyou Roisin, your sketchbook is absolute treasure, exquisite.
Your coffees look too real...i wanted to slurp them both.
Variety. You are so talented 💚
Thanks so very much Anna, it’s all thanks to the Internet that I can share with so many people and I’m very grateful!
amazing art!!!! Do you have any other socials?
for art of course haha!
Yes, just use my name. And thank you!
not sure weather or not you'll see this, but I have a question. On the espresso cups image the white dots on the plate on the left, did you use masking liquid or something with a white pigment, and if it's the pigment what did you use. I always struggle to find something opaque white to go over my watercolours. PS - I love your videos, very inspiring!
Nope! Simply paint and the lack of it, no white media used at all.
@@roisincure wow the paint is so smooth around the dots that I didn't even consider that option
@tuuurtles oh right, the dots! Sorry - yes that’s a white gel pen.
marvellous😍😍😍😍
Thank you Irene x
Love your style ❤
Thank you!
just lovely
Thank you!
Love love love all of this, but particularly the animals cooking. Or was it the pink chocolates?😮 oh yummy.
And surfed to your website listened to half a podcast, sorry about Usk. Have you taught at one before? Another artist I follow also was rejected for New Zealand. I'm quite new to urban sketching (in fact to all of it) and like all niche hobbies comes niche friendship groups I can't seem to chip into (must try harder next time). But love your style and will continue to delve into your lovely back catalogue of videos and listen to your podcasts on journeys (thank you).
Thank you!
@@lizleiart yes I’ve taught at two USk symposiums. The Porto one was a dream from start to finish - ten days away grim my domestic duties, the first since I’d become a mother 18 years earlier. Amsterdam was less fun for me for a few reasons. I discovered why they didn’t accept my application, which is fair enough - they like the proposals to be very city-specific. I “dialled” this one in the day before! So I don’t harbour any resentment! 😂
Ah well, Argentina is so far away. Plenty of other opps. Thanks for responding 😊
Very nice
Thanks!
Hi, Roisin! Watching this was wonderfully relaxing - thank you! I remembered some of the sketches from your other videos, but I especially love the way your family (I include Reuben, of course!) pop up so often here, and in your other videos. Those illustrated recipes are absolute gems! I paused each one to see them properly and to read the recipes! If all recipe books were such delight, maybe more people would stop being scared of cooking new things. 🤔😊
Reuben's little habit: One of our cats did this and the vet recommended a pheromone spray to use around the house, and it worked. Didn't hurt the cats, didn't mark the walls or furniture, didn't hurt the environment as it was a spray bottle, not an aerosol, but it did cure the problem. Maybe your vet will know if there's something like that which will help Rueben?
😊
You’re a genius Mrs Barnabas! I’ll try that. We tried white pepper and we were left with peppery puddles 😵💫
Thanks so much for your lovely words. I will take your comments to the publisher I’m currently trying to excite about those recipes!
@@roisincure I really hope there's one for dogs, and that it works for Reuben, Roisin.
If you did a recipe book like that, I think it would sell faster than a takeaway coffee at morning rush hour! I'd buy it, for sure (as long as I hadn't spent all my not-so-spare cash on art supplies, of course. 🤔 😄!) Seriously, though, I'd love to have book like that, especially knowing the level of imagination, creativity and artist's skills involved!
😊
@MrsBarnabas you’re very kind! I always know when people like something (because they tell me!) but the publishers always think they know best. I would LOVE to do one for dogs!
@@roisincure _"publishers always think they know best."_
Yes, I have the same problem in other circumstances, when I present a well-supported idea, and the 'people in charge' decide they know better than the group of people I represent!
I think I'd do a poll and take the results to the publisher! 😄
_"I would LOVE to do one for dogs!"_
Aww, no owls, pheasants, cats, mice... ??? (Those pheasants were superb - we had a lot of those in the countryside where I lived in the UK.)
@@MrsBarnabas I can’t complain, I’ve had three bestsellers published by great publishers. So I just have to convince the right one!
This is seriously the most wonderful and diverse sketch book tour ever!!! 😊
Ah thanks so much Lisa! Yes it’s kinda random alright!
