I am sorry to say this, but imo it is rude not only to the surrounding diners but to the staff as well to turn a refined dinner experience into a photoshoot.. I think your reviews are thoughtful an enjoyable to watch, but not at the expense of your fellow diners.
They gave the restaurant a heads up. It’s up to them to decide if that’s ok and they clearly said it was, and then made no attempt to accommodate the agreement they made. Lame.
If I'm eating at a 3* somewhere I always ask myself "would this be 3* in Paris?" as that's a pretty damn good baseline IMO. Surprisingly, I find many don't actually meet that bar and while Le Bernardin is a really good restaurant, you would think the Michelin inspector was roofied if it was given 3* in Paris (not like they don't have those screwy moments anyways!).
I went recently and thought it was exceptional seafood done right, nothing revolutionary but the best classic seafood meal i’ve ever had. The service was excellent and we didn’t get any sense of stuffiness. Ironically the service at CTBF the night before was horrendous and the heat was off at the end of the meal leaving us freezing lol.
Oh that's so great, glad you had a wonderful experience! Maybe the team was off the night we were there, but it was definitely very prominent. Sounds like it doesn't happen all the time, which is great to hear! Good to know about CTBF, we haven't been there yet and it's great to get some insider feedback. Thanks for sharing :) We are always curious and appreciate hearing how others experiences were.
I see some of the comments made by some people. I was one of the sous chefs at Le Bernardin and the kitchen was amazing. They have been a 3 Michelin Star restaurant since 2005. Ive also worked in Lyon France under Pierre Orsi. France is not at top right now. NYC is the culinary capital of the world. Le Bernardin is ranked 26th in the world for a reason.....ENOUGH SAID!!!
I agree. I had lunch there last month and specificially tried the pintade with foie gras and truffle to compare their version to other Haute Cuisine restsurants in France. Chef Ripert nailed it!
I have eaten at Le Bernardin twice and both times I have been disappointed. The first time I had ordered a 3 course dinner. Everything was good but I left hungry - which should not happen for the amount I paid. I went back again a couple of years later after it had been refurbished. I wanted to give it a second chance because I thought perhaps it was my fault for ordering dishes that were not satisfying. Being seafood, it’s just not as heavy as the food I have experienced in other Michelin-star restaurants. I don’t recall being as disappointed with the food but it was not a relaxing experience. The service staff - all dressed in black - were everywhere circling like a school of sharks. They created so much traffic it was off-putting! At other top restaurants, the staff is usually attentive but discrete. You don’t feel you are being observed. At Le Bernardin they were intrusive and everywhere. I am not sure I will give them a third chance next time I am in NYC.
Agreed, and we completely understand and respect if restaurants are not okay with what we do! Before we show up anywhere though, we always give the restaurant a heads up and show them our channel. If they're not okay with it, we would completely respect it and not film the experience. Based on others expressing their personal experiences, it seems we're not the only ones who received this type of service, unfortunately.
100% if I was paying the price Le Bernardin charges the last thing I would want is to be sitting next to someone recording their whole evening. I would probably be glaring or at least talking to the head of house.
Sorry to hear you didn't have a great experience. I dined at Le Bernardin in 2017 and the service was also hit-and-miss. I think the menu truly reflects (love it or hate it) Chef Ripert's philosophy: The fish is the star (almost to a fault). I think of it like fish Haiku: Tons of thought and care went to it, but at times you look at it and think "that's it?" I'm still processing my meal at Le Bernardin to this day, and it definitely impacts how I cook seafood. But that's why we go try these restaurants, right? Sometimes it may not be fully what you expect, but you get to experience how a chef thinks :)
Totally agreed with you! It's definitely so interesting to experience completely unique and interesting styles from different chefs, and being able to see their personalities shine on a plate. You're right about letting the fish shine, it was always the focal point of the dish, and the produce itself was outstanding! Cool that it impacted the way you cook seafood. Are you a chef, or a cooking enthusiast?

Awesome video and I’m so glad you guys kept your reviews honest and real regardless of the glares. Im sorry you had a bad experience with the staff there I know that would just ruin my dinner (esp regarding what was said about the expectations and the price of going).
So in 2014 or 2015 I went there for lunch during restaurant week. I had a 3 course menu, and was extremely underwhelmed. I feel like they could care less about us because we ordered a three course pre fixe at lunch with no wine. We sat at the bar area. Food was high quality and under seasoned across the board. I remember watching an episode of top chef where they were eating at Le Bernadin and one of the chefs said "this food is high quality but doesn't excite me at all" and I agree. I unfortunately find that as chefs who hold a 3*** title at their restaurant and they start doing TV, have many restaurants now in their empire and traveling and aren't in there daily anymore a lot slips through the cracks of what they used to be. I love fine dining and blow a lot of money at these restaurants each year, but I'm usually more excited to go to a new 2 or 3 star restaurant because they are still hungry for success and striving for excellence, whereas one that held it for a decade or two are complacent. Thank you for your honesty in your videos. BIG FAN of your content! Keep traveling, tasting and sharing and much success to you both!
Hey David, thanks for sharing! We couldn't agree with you more, in all regards of your comment! The produce was of the highest quality, but that's really our only positive from this meal. We were more curious to try this restaurant because of its ability to continuously maintain such high ratings and rankings... but like you said, without the chef being present there's a lot that can change over time. We are always eager to try newly crowned 2-3 stars as well, and veering in that direction as the channel grows! If you have any restaurant must-eats, we'd love to know! Thanks again, and chat soon!
As other people have said, the staff may not have appreciated you filming. However, the last time I ate at Le Bernardin, I found the staff off-putting. They were all dressed in black and they were everywhere, circling like a school of sharks. They created so much traffic. It was not a relaxing experience. I was there alone and I don’t film. As I wrote before with your Al Coro video(I work there). I am surprised by this review. I do have some friends who work at Le Bernadine. I mean, there can be a bunch of factors to the way the waitstaff behaved. Sorry you didn't have a good experience.
Very brave review. Very honest. By the way I completely agree with your observations on the service. I thought it was just me. I loved the food, but not so much the attitude of the wait staff.

Aha I went there with fellow alumni. Explained how we were all chefs. One of the hosts said I should have been a photographer instead of a chef. Probably didn’t mean anything by that.. but… 😅 I took it personal. Cause I am a chef first. Lol I will say that if food isn’t consumed right away it is off putting to the staff. I went once for lunch over 20 years ago. The servers 100% had an attitude. It didn't really bother me. I also am a huge fan of seafood generally. Last qualifier: Don't go in there thinking it will be the best meal you ever had, because IMO thinking that way will set you up for disappointment 100% of the time. Having said all that, it was easily one of the 5 best meals I have ever had, and probably the best. My reaction was similar to the guy here's reaction to the two dishes he liked best, except I was probably more emotional and swoony. But I'm someone who is very into the actual taste of dishes, way above other things. Service quality matters, but pales by comparison. Presentation matters, but pales by comparison. Anyway, if you can afford a total splurge meal like this, I would highly recommend it -- which is not at all true for most of the high-priced restaurants I've eaten at.
@@S3Lifestyle it’s May 13th Saturday night, same date as our 7th anniversary, my friend had just watched your Al Coro video too last weekend, told us they are excited; we never dined at Le Bernardin, always feels like a place for nearby cooperate guys to grab a quick lunch or business meetings or wedding lol

Totally agree. I had a very disappointing experience at Le Bernardin last year. From the ambiance to the service and hospitality element that wasn't there. Food quality excellent but the overall experience did not meet my expectations.
You guys need to learn how to review from Alexander the Guest. Your review is obnoxious with the giggles and everything, not en par to the quality of the restaurant you are reviewing. Also, you should know many ingredients in French Cuisine are a substrate providing texture for the sauce or other components (IE the scallop here) rather than an integral part of the taste. Le Bernadin makes excellent classic fare seafood French cuisine. This is not the methodology to review these kind of restaurants.
Moral of the story: Places with class and refinement do not respect disruptive foodie content makers. They don't need you for publicity, and you make their dining room into an obnoxious spectacle that prioritizes your video over your fellow guests.
Oh they definitely were, but they still weren't that welcoming before we whipped out our camera! We emailed though, their main and press emails with enough forewarning that we were coming, and unfortunately didn't hear back. Should they have told us they were uncomfortable we would have changed our plans all together. Still, as you said, no excuse to be as rude as they were. Anyways, thanks for watching!
Le Bernardin was on my list after going to Per Se and EMP, but couldn't go as I didn't have time. Recently, a friend of mine that went a few months back told me she did not like it. Now coupled with this video, going here is a hard sell. Sorry that you didn't have a good experience but thank you for the insider experience. Also, were those the only desserts? I recall this restaurant has one of the best pastry chefs in the country.
How was Per Se and EMP? Those are still on our list to try! Yeah, should we had know the dinner would have played out as it did, we would have second guessed our decision to go! We were just so hopeful and curious, with all their raving reviews and rankings. It just felt a bit too dated, and too simple for us. We love a menu that has us questioning how they made the dish and hits your in the face with flavour and creativity! Yes, those were the only desserts on the menu, and they fell in line with the same theme as the rest of the menu. Maybe that pastry chef left to pursuit something else?
Le Bernardin is better than EMP, both in terms of flavours and value. Per Se is better quality wise but is pretty damn pricey. Obviously LB is not cheap by any stretch but still...
Two narcissist with the camera pointing at them instead of the food. Ofcourse they were getting the stink eye. They are not contributing anything. They are regurgitating well known history in a thinly veiled attempt to add levity to the video.
That's exactly how we felt! All classic, some well executed... but just dated and not innovative like other 3, 2 and 1 stars out there, haha! Thanks for watching :)
went there years ago. didn’t have a suit jacket but had on a very nice tailor fit leather jacket w a nice shirt underneath. they made me take it off and wear another large house jacket and when i said no to the wine pairing (not a drinker just by choice) they asked if i was sober. it was awkward half way through i just asked for my check and paid it and skipped the rest of the meal. it informed everything i cannot stand about fake hospitality. it changed my entire idea of what i thought dining at that level was at the time.(this was over a decade ago) it was a very different time than todays landscape.
Wow, I'm so sorry that happened to you :( That sounds like a horrible experience, and nobody should ever be made to feel that uncomfortable, regardless of where you are. I will say that the service and experience is unique to here and we've never felt that anywhere else. All our other experiences with dining at this level have been memorable, humble and genuine. It's odd to me that this particular restaurant continues to behave in this way, even after decades like you said.
I'm glad I didn't have to listen to you two Critique this wonderful restaurant For your personal gain While I'm trying to enjoy my evening You two are obnoxious
Hey there! I love the videos you guys make, but this kind of background music is very overstimulating to people on the autism spectrum like me, so i couldn't finish the video. So, if possible could you guys consider trying softer music? Keep it up with the quality content, i love watching your reviews with my bf. Thanks a lot!
Oh thanks so much for the feedback, we wouldn't have known otherwise! Sorry the background music is a bit overstimulating. Is it just a bit too loud, or the type of music that's too overstimulating, or the camera clicks when the flash happens? Let us know. Thanks so much for watching, we appreciate it :)
Completely agree with you! That's exactly what we felt. With all the praise it gets, we were really hoping that wouldn't be the case, but seems it is. As you know, we'll be making up for it soon haha! All your insta pics are making us very excited! Keep up the awesome work!

well, was there a few months ago and had a great experience, food and service was great, feel bad that you two didn’t have the same experience, but would like to ask you, it seems both of you found everything to be bad or terrible, especially the girl, doubted very much “everything” was bad, also, wondering if your date (her) had a preconceive opinion about Le Bernardin, well, sorry for your “bad” experience, but for me, I would still go to this restaurant to experience chef Eric Ripert great cuisine 😊
Oh so great to hear about your experience, we're honestly glad to hear you had a great night! You're right, we did have a preconceived opinion of Le Bernardin, since it's recognized at such a high level we went in really expecting to have a perfect experience and to be blown away but food and service! Unfortunately, as you saw, not what we were expecting. We've come to learn that for us, personally, there are some hits and misses, regardless of fame and stars and rankings. It's again, all personal palate and preference... what we might love others won't, and vice versa. Anyways, really happy to hear you had the opposite experience, as you should :) Thanks for watching and connecting further!
Love your honesty. I recently went to a Noma grad restaurant and food was phenomenal service was not. Totally uncomfortable. Got to speak with the Chef and he apologized for their disservice. Regardless its a shifty feeling to pay good money for a half of an experience.
Oh no, so sorry to hear that! We totally agree, these dinners are a lot of money and they usually pride themselves in hosting an exceptional experience. Sad we both experienced that. I hope it hasn’t happened to you again!
had the same exact experience as you guys a few months back. the servers weren't giving us attitude per se, but it was pretty clear they could've cared less about our dining experience and were just sorta assembly-lining the dishes out. cant complain about the quality of the food though.
That's annoying, sorry that you've experienced the same! Other viewers have shared the same sentiment, as well. It's very confusing that they continue to host in that way, especially at a caliber that high. Like you said, quality of ingredients were great, though!
Yeah i honestly have to agree a bit. I went there on my birthday last year, the service was alright, but I would say the food was maybe a tad lackluster for my taste. I don't know. The flavors are definitely clean and subtle and fresh but they don't give me that special feeling I get when I eat at other Michelin restaurants. I am trying to find a spot to go to for my birthday this year, was thinking atomix but its impossible to get reservations. Maybe you guys have a recommendation? Also I love the videos keep up the hard work I'm sure it isn't easy for you two to make these videos.
Yeah 100% agree with you! We'll be honest, we were very underwhelmed at Atomix, as well. There were only 2 dishes we absolutely loved, but the rest was very muted in flavour and we were hoping for me. We'd personally recommend SAGA if you're looking to enjoy an outstanding meal... and then finish the night off at Overstory! We also really enjoyed the upstairs tasting menu at One White, but that was a couple years ago and we hope they're still putting out the same quality as opening. Let us know where you end up :) Happy early Birthday!!

I really appreciate the honesty and the insight into the restaurants history! I really enjoy your channel and I am glad I stumbled upon it recently.
Thanks so much!! Happy you found us hahah!
Love the honest review!
Thanks Jeremiah, glad it's not negatively received! :)
I rather eat at Marea❤ love your always a touch of Chanel ❤
We've actually never been to Marea, but have heard great things! How was Al Coro, did that happen already?? ❤️
@@jrcasa7926 Oh it’s coming up!! Well happy early anniversary! We can’t wait to go back to Al Coro, it’s such a cool vibe and delicious food! Hope you like it, let us know :) and totally agree with you about Bernardin, definitely felt that. We were just so curious to see what all the hype was about.
@@S3Lifestyle aw thx a lot! U r so right! It’s the vibe like u mentioned in the video it’s the vibe that makes u wanna dress up, thats the sentence according to your video tht got my fiancé hyped up when watching your al Coro video,so now we booked the venue for wedding dinner, will definitely shoot u a revue later. Have a wonderful wonderful weekend. Can’t wait to the next S3 video!
@@jrcasa7926 That’s awesome! Have the best time!! And an awesome weekend, too :) Talk soon! ❤️
Totally agree. I had a very disappointing experience at Le Bernardin last year. From the ambiance to the service and hospitality element that wasn't there. Food quality excellent but the overall experience did not meet my expectations.
Yeah, too bad to hear we both shared a similar experience :(
You guys need to learn how to review from Alexander the Guest.
Felt the impersonal touch through the screen - great review and filmmaking as per usual. Keep it up!
Appreciate it Abyy!! Thanks for watching and your continued feedback, we love it :)
Moral of the story: Places with class and refinement do not respect disruptive foodie content makers. They don't need you for publicity, and you make their dining room into an obnoxious spectacle that prioritizes your video over your fellow guests.
Mother of pearl spoon for caviar
love the video and input
Thanks!! :)
The best !
they're probably starring because you're not supposed to film but they didn't say anything.
I wonder if the servers were put off with your dinner being filmed? Not an excuse but curious if that’s why.
Heard one review that summed it up in one word "meh"
No Fried Pickles or Tater Tots?
Tuna tartare looks impeccable
It was a delicious bite, awesome quality and super fresh!
Applaud the honesty. Too often established places become echo chambers with reviews and the hive mind tries to eviscerate any apostates
Two narcissist with the camera pointing at them instead of the food. Ofcourse they were getting the stink eye. They are not contributing anything. They are regurgitating well known history in a thinly veiled attempt to add levity to the video.
try to go to Restaurant Gordon Ramsay
Will do, thanks :)
That scallop looks horrendous to be honest
Every plate doesn’t need to be finished table side 😂.
😂😂😂good point
The dishes aren't really that creative. Nothing looks bad but not really a three star experience
That's exactly how we felt! All classic, some well executed... but just dated and not innovative like other 3, 2 and 1 stars out there, haha! Thanks for watching :)
Sounds like Las Vegas on a plate
Did you ask if you could film for your channel?
Yup, we always do!
went there years ago. didn’t have a suit jacket but had on a very nice tailor fit leather jacket w a nice shirt underneath. they made me take it off and wear another large house jacket and when i said no to the wine pairing (not a drinker just by choice) they asked if i was sober. it was awkward half way through i just asked for my check and paid it and skipped the rest of the meal. it informed everything i cannot stand about fake hospitality. it changed my entire idea of what i thought dining at that level was at the time.(this was over a decade ago) it was a very different time than todays landscape.
Always appreciate the honesty. Another great video
Thanks Damon! 😊
Go back in a couple months and it will be perfect again.
yup ..again foam ... its like these fancy restaurants are obsessed with it LOL
Time to remove one star again I think, and comparing it to our Franzén here in Sweden, remove all of their stars !
Very fit. Very Hot. Thanks for staying in excellent conditions
Hii
Not the first time I have heard or read a review that this place is just not that special.
Yeah.... it's too bad.
I'm glad
I didn't have to listen to you two
Critique this wonderful restaurant
For your personal gain
While I'm trying to enjoy my evening
You two are obnoxious
How annoying if u would have to sit next to two people talking to themselves … besides that , not a very good video .
I’M GLAD THE SERVICE WAS RUDE!!! TURN OFF THE CAMERA AND ENJOY THE FOOD!!! YOU BOTH HAVE NO PALATE!!
The word here should be palate, not palette
@@owades thank you for the correction I’m editing immediately. CHEERS
French don't know what they're doing with food, so you're lucky you're getting small portions
Le Bernardin is super over-rated imo. Menu is boring. Rarely changes. Just a safe stuffy unexciting restaurant.
Completely agree with you! That's exactly what we felt. With all the praise it gets, we were really hoping that wouldn't be the case, but seems it is. As you know, we'll be making up for it soon haha! All your insta pics are making us very excited! Keep up the awesome work!
@@S3Lifestyle I feel Michelin is a bit scared to drop 3 star establishments to two. Thank you guys! Looking forward to seeing the European dining . I have no doubt it will be better =)
@@whataboutrick Agreed, and especially when that establishment has been an institution for far too long. We're excited to make our European videos, we've added way more to our list haha! We trust you completely, so we know it'll be amazing!
maybe youre getting glared at because you are obnoxiously making a video in the middle of an expensive restaurant.
Uh - Without making videos in expensive restaurants, the channel wouldn't exist. So did you come here just to say that they should not make any more videos?
@@abepafford1615 No, they are just obnoxious about it. I have seen other vloggers make videos in the same locations without claiming they were glared at. This couple is obnoxious in every video. Feel free to keep hanging all over their ass though.
The staff and people around you probably didn't appreciate you talking and distracting them while you made videos.
no such thing as appreacix or not apprex talkx or distrx or etc, cpeuxuax, talkx, sayx, can talkx sayx etc any nmw s perfx
I saw UA Eats on RUclips was told he couldn’t film when he reviewed this restaurant. It seems like the manager is not a fan of it
well, was there a few months ago and had a great experience, food and service was great, feel bad that you two didn’t have the same experience, but would like to ask you, it seems both of you found everything to be bad or terrible, especially the girl, doubted very much “everything” was bad, also, wondering if your date (her) had a preconceive opinion about Le Bernardin, well, sorry for your “bad” experience, but for me, I would still go to this restaurant to experience chef Eric Ripert great cuisine 😊
Anyways, really happy to hear you had the opposite experience, as you should :) Thanks for watching and connecting further!
am a 5 star michelin - gods menu felix
Let us know where you end up :) Happy early Birthday!!
where have you eaten that you thought was particularly special?
