I've really been appreciating these videos as my wife and I are preparing for our CT attempt this summer. These have basically been like a video version of the CT data book. I've planned out a rough itinerary, but it's nice to see all the places that I was planning on camping. Cheers!
Thanks Jonathan, glad you find the series helpful. I wish you two all the best on your CT hike. When making those videos I tried to squeeze as much information from the data book in each day If you have any questions let me know, I'd be glad to help. Cheers my friend.
Always was amazed how much weight you carry. My pack weight will be a joke compared to yours! I couldn't do what you do. Here in Ohio in the winter I do carry 60 plus in but only a mile or two. Cast iron!
Hey man I really enjoy your videos. I watched your JMT hikes and some others a while back. I actually was going to hike the JMT had the permit and everything and family emergency cancelled that. You gave me some encouragement and nice words three years ago. I do plan on hiking that in 2023 now. But I am doing the first 118 to Copper starting Aug 27th. What day did you start? I know its been a while, but since its your first you might remember. Thanks for taking us along man. You are an awesome dude to watch. The Sierra High route trail was amazing too! Then the Great Divide trail. All are awesome! Hope you still get these notifications.
Bailey Country Store is now the Sasquatch Outpost and Platte River Outfitters :-) Still great outdoor gear and you can ship your resupply boxes here! 149 Main Street in Bailey, CO
So ,That's how you get in shape! Hauling shingles up to a roof! That is hard work! I can see by the way you are walking, that that pack is heavy. Poor legs. Lol.... But it is amazing that you can still narrate as you walk uphill...and at 10,000 feet!
I am planning on hiking the CT summer of 2017...At the 21:46 mark in this particular video, you mention hiking 12 hours with a 60 -70lb pack. Are you suggesting your pack weight was 60Lbs??? my planned pack weight with food will be 33 lbs max.
Michael Dreyer yes my base weight was 53 pounds and 7 days of food was close to 15 pounds and then 2 liters of water yet brings it close to or over 70 pounds, I had no problem carrying it, and hiked well over 1000 miles in 2014 with that pack weight, I will be hikin the entire PCT with a 55 pound pack which is light for me and should have no problem at all carrying it the entire way 2660 Miles.
My base weight in my pack is 22 lbs. I would like to get it to 17, but that won't be possible. I need too many comforts at my age. :-) I figure 12 lbs of food between resupply points. It's logistically easier for me since I live in Colorado. Waterton Canyon is 30 min from me. I hike/fly fish out in that area all the time. Good luck on the PCT. Really enjoy the videos, BTW. Thanks for putting these together.
You are making this look like my bucket list retirement trek next year...did the solar charger work well for you? Any confusing areas in finding the trail? Great vids!
Hello HONDO, The solar panel worked really well! there are a few spots where you have to stop and think about where you'll have to go but usually looking in the guide book will set you back on the right path if you went the wrong way for some reason, the CT is very well marked and never had any big issues anywhere. Thanks for watching, hope you make it out there! Happy Trails
What month/months were you on trail? Looks like it was around July.. Thanks for your hard work and diligence on these videos. It's helping me plan my trip in 2018.
Thanks Madalyn Clark, I was on the trail from July 16 to the end of August of 2014. Glad the videos are of help to you on your planning for the CT. Happy Trails.
Yes it's the same tent, it was the first tent I ever bought and at the time I didn't trust the light tents, but this green Hilleberg is over 6 pounds, so for the PCT I got another one, this time a light weight Backpacking tent.

Is your tent the same one you use for winter camping?a
