      I was hoping that powertoys would also include a tool for detecting which process is preventing an external hard disk from being ejected. Is there one?

      @@aaronjunker you know EXACTLY what I mean. I'm assuming they out something in it to spy on people.
      MS is famous for spying on people. For one, the government demands it in one way or another. Some people have tried to make super secure email programs and the US government always gets involved to water ot down.

    I love that PowerToys are still a thing, I had always thought they should be a part of Windows itself, since Win 95.

      I am baffled they didn't include it in windows 11, I thought they were beta testing it as an open source app or something that already feels so native.

      @@arghya_333 some of the features of powertoys actually got integrated in to windows 11. Like the window positioning thing that appears when you hover your mouse over maximize/minimize window button on the top left of windows.

      I agree, got it about a month ago for the first time and has up my productivity level onto another level. Where I can grab a text and paste on word is so powerful.

      Yeah! - But these tools here are not actual powertoys, nothing more than simple utilities.

    For the Text Extractor one note I want to mention is that if you are using multiple languages in your system like me (Arabic, English) you have to change the keyboard language first to English to extract English text and change it to Arabic if I want to extract an Arabic text. I Hope this is useful ✋❣

    5:24 .gcode and .stl are files often used in 3d printing and other computer aided manufacturing processes

    5:34 Geometric Code and Stereolitography are files used in 3D Printing. Geometric code (.gcode) is the file ready to print with all settings and Stereolitoghapy (.stl) is the 3D model itself. Slicing software like Unimaker Cura reads stl files and ajust them and save as gcode, to use on 3D Printers

    In the Color Picker when you mouse scroll you can zoom in, so you can pick the color more precise👍

    I've been using PowerToys since release (mostly for FancyZones). Thanks for showing off the new features that I don't really look into. Accents will be the most useful I think. Also PowerToys has come a long way since launch. The apps are much more stable than they used to be.

      @@Ramon314 you can make custom window layouts to snap your windows on your screen. It's like the built-in Windows snap system. But you can customise this to your own liking.

      @@Ramon314 I use a large format display. 4k 49 inch display. Regular snapping is not enough for how I want things placed. In general, if you want any different type of snapping, you can do it with FancyZones

    Great video. I love powertoys. I am so confused about why they aren't already in windows automatically. This makes it so much less common and less popular. Also I love Thio Joe.

    PowerToys Awake is great on laptops when downloading large files. Setting the computer to remain awake for an hour while keeping the screen off is an easy way to save battery during large downloads without having to go into Windows settings.

    I originally downloaded it just for the color picker, because I use it often when I need to design something, but I started using more of the features. It turns out that some of them can be sometimes really useful, most of the features here should be included in Windows

    3:49 And if you really want to (was useful to me in a project) you can disable or change the color of the outline I you want the always on top app to look as any other app or simply have the outline in another color you prefer

    I have been using PowerToys for a while now and the Run and Always On Top are soooo goood! and the Color Picker comes in clutch as I am a digital artist and developer.

    woooooooooooooooooow.... sir these tools are mind blowing. i had such a hard time getting the pixels correct from web pages n the color codes. Also the other utility application, this video just made my day.... thank you sir....

    If you have PowerToys installed, go to settings and click install update. It is a good idea to keep it updated. On my PC it will notify a new version is available and ask to install the update

    When downloading the app from the Microsoft Store it does install the latest version of the app, the store app version details section might not be up to date but the app itself seems to be updated accordingly based on the latest release.
    I installed it today after watching this video and the version instaled was Release v0.64.1 👌🤘

    I use FancyZones all day every day at work. I have one of my monitors as a dashboard of sorts. I have Outlook, Teams, our phone panel, status board, and lobby camera all on the screen at the same time. They all go exactly where I want them overlapping perfectly.

    If you go into the regular advanced mouse settings in Windows, there is a simple version of the find my mouse. I think hitting the ctrl key is the only option and it makes a little circle appear around your pointer(even if the pointer is not visible on screen for whatever reason)

    I never knew that these existed until now, and I actually find them quite useful. My favorite tools are Always on Top and Text Extractor. In fact, if you have PowerToys installed, you can even use the Text Extractor tool to copy the text from my comment! (don't be afraid to...)

    Text Extractor is good when you want to copy bunch of text from a PDF file, cause for some reason sometimes you can't copy text normally from a PDF file

    .gcode is used for 3d printing & .stl is a 3d model format which also is commonly used in 3d printing. Needless to say I love that it offers previews of those files.

    TweakUI was always my favourite.

    I am looking forwards to using the Color Picker -- no more screenshotting images with interesting hues and having to open up my paint software, just to get the color. I can see myself using the Text tool a bunch, as well as the accent thinger.

    My wife, who is fluent in Spanish, is constantly frustrated at not having accents easily available. I had a great tool in Windows XP and Windows 7, but it was no longer supported in Win Vista+. Quick Accent will be very nice for her.

      She can also install a Spanish keyboard or alternatively an American/Spanish keyboard. I installed an American/Portuguese keyboard and switch between it and the regular American English keyboard hitting the Windows Key/Spacebar combination. Very easy.

    the crosshair thing is SUPER useful for presenting or showing stuff in excel as it essentially gives leader lines to the rows and columns

    FancyZones is also really good, customizable window layouts are really good for multiple monitors or an ultrawide monitor! Definitely worth getting to mess around with.

    10:18 The reason we put it into maintenance mode is that these features will come in some way to Windows 11 or are already there (like the mute button in the taskbar)

    I've been using PowerToys since that old video you made. It's been extremely useful for niche situations, since you wouldn't really be using it every day, but since it is quite small, you would be glad you had it when you need it.

    For those of us who are geriatrics who enjoy your channel please consider including the name of the item you are discussing as text on the screen (say top left) during the relevant discussion, or else repeating the name at the end of that clip. By the time I decide that sounds interesting I've forgotten what it is called and have to relisten to get the name! Thank you.

    I have used color picker to sanity check my eyes (and even my phone cam) before. had the green light on a traffic light look freaking BLUE. turns out it was, in fact, slightly blue. Apparently they can do that when they light bulb starts to go out.

    personally what I use in power toys the most is always on top, awake (it lets my laptop stay on but with the screen fully off until an interaction) and the keyboard manager
    what I use the keyboard manager for is to let me change the cap lock key into a mute key also made it so ctrl+s acts like ctrl+w on my main browser
    the always on top tool is probably the most used one (or the keyboard manager thinking about it) as it lets me just do a hotkey and it will just stay on the screen
    very good tools which helps out in the small things(though now I have adapted to changing the volume with a four finger swipe up and down)

    Mousefinder is the most useful tool. To find the mouse on (in my case) 4 screens, without this tool, extremely difficult if you were not at the PC and forgot on which screen you last worked.

    I absolutely adore PowerTools, especially PowerToolsRun, being able to look anything up, go to any website, or do any basic math whatsoever with just a hotkey is amazing.
    Too bad I'm on Linux.

    Geometric code looks to be a type of file used by 3d printers, it being what tells them what exactly to do, with the tempurature, density, ect.

    The Windows Store version does actually install and update to the latest version, it's just the changelog on the store that doesn't get actively updated.

    Informative video, I have now loaded Power toys, I wish they would add the ability to colour folders in file explorer to aid with the classification of folders & types of folders; I can see where to request or suggest this

    geometric code is gcode, thats how CNC machines work and 3d printers and stuff. Tells it how to move, what to turn on or off, where is axis is etc.

    How is File Locksmith not something that is included in Windows by default? Is so incredibly frustrating having to find what obscure process out of the hundreds running on my PC is preventing me from deleting a folder because Windows wants to be vague.

    I believe that installing from the winget source is akin to snagging via GIT directly. Just check the package source and us the ID provided for it.

    Gcode is for 3d printers. It's one of the main file extensions used in 3d printers and other CNCs.

    Some of these Powertoys can be useful in certain use cases. Just know installing these is likely going to increase the overall processes running in the background so be mindful if you really need these and if your pc runs happily with them going on

    Powertoys was created by Micro$oft back in the days of Windoze 95. But this is the first I have heard of them updating it for the latest versions.

    it's interesting to see recently added features are real competition to MacOS, like Alt+Spacebar instead of CMD+Spacebar for quick search, or Ctrl+Spacebar instead of Spacebar for file preview :)

    Great video, I have been using PowerToys on and off but now it seems really useful. Also Geometric code or gcode, is for use with 3d printers or CNC, think of it like a list of coordinates. Also for Video Conference Mute it looks like they are adding or have added a similar functionality right into Windows 11 thus why I would assume its being marked as legacy

    Instead of file locksmith I have been using sysinternals' process explorer handle menu. But file locksmith is quick to reach 👍🏽
