AND PLAYING IT JUST AS IT WAS RECORDED IN THE STUDIO IS NOT SOMETHING TODD LIKES DOING....I MISSED OUT ON SEEING THIS AT THE CIVIC IN AKRON OHIO BUT SO PURE TO SEE THIS VIDEO ❤❤❤ THANKS !!!✌🇺🇸

On a whim I looked up Wizard, and a new comment, only hours old. I couldn't agree more. International Feel is a gem. I wouldn't expect many to understand. 👍
@@jacobcastro1885 are you nuts. Although you weren't alive, song was incredibly popular on FM and underground radio in the day. It was very well known. Thats why Rundgren played it live for years. Duh. Sorry, you are not a member of a select few hipster element.
Thank you graciously Mr Rundgren for inspiring me all my brothers especially my twin brother who recently passed and all people who are suffering from addiction, mental illness, cancer whatever it may be humbly your fan forever Gary Dias
The hardest working man in radio Nailed it in this performance. I never realized how 'Whoesque' 'Is it My Name? ' is. But, THIS is Rock at it's best. Mr. Todd (and company) were so f'n inspired when that whole AWATS record was being made. And what's more, Todd has always been the ultimate Cosmic Rocker. If you don't dig it there's lots of other music out there to choose from.
Talk about being in your bliss hearing all these songs live...😵😵😵😵💖💖💖💖💖💖👏👏👏👏👏You can feel the energy from the crowd and the band through this whole show especially here. GOTTA LOVE THIS !!!!💖❤💖❤💖❤💖❤💖
I can remember when Wizard first came out...it was such a quirky album for the time...but hear it a few times...it really grows on you...especially if you know anything about music...it was sooooo technical...still have the original LP....
IIRC (from liner notes) it was the longest single album at the time.. 56 minutes? Todd apologized because the recording/pressing sound level had to be reduced to do this.. solution was to turn up the volume, which we always did anyway. It was one of those albums you that you always had to play the whole thing - many of them in the 70s (e.g. Blows Against the Empire)..
Cant be beat. Todd is god. Been listening to him my whole life. Its great because he always has a positive message. He laid down odd meter laws in a popular music setting. Always stuck to his guns. Be true to yourself.
@@dantean The concept was recreating the visual era of the album as well as the music. Todd had a costume change for nearly all of the 12 songs on the album, plus encores, including a clown-ish character, an astronaut decked out in NASA space suit, and the infamous"man-eating butterfly" outfit from his 1973 appearance on Midnight Special. Not his usual concert attire for a great many years...
Jesus F****ing Christ, that is great!, even for TR, that is spectacular. I have having seen him since the 70's, and this blows me away. I wish I was there. Masters all.
Back in 1981 or 82 I was living in California and I went up to San Francisco me and my girlfriend and a bunch of other people to see Todd at the old Waldorf Can you play there for about a week and then he played the Kabuki theater for about a week and he asked for people from the audience to come up and help him because he was playing by himself haha and we got to play album play a song when I pray off of faithful that was so cool he has such a cool artist man I really was 40 years ago I can't believe how time flies Why was fucking yesterday Todd's awesome Every time I see you Todd You're an icon Todd
Todd est vraiment l'une des plus belles architectes musicales de son temps. Il y a quelques années, une très bonne amie m'a présenté ses œuvres. J’en serai toujours reconnaissant à son âme translucide et majestueuse, prématurément envolée 🕊
AWESOME songs... AMAZING performance .... This is the BEST MUSIC ever. TODD is the most amazing writer I have witnessed in my 58 years on this planet. Been a fan since the early 1970's ... THIS VIDEO is SUPER !!!!!!!!
God DAMNED, Tony! This is just about thee HARDEST rocking tune I have EVER seen or heard Rundgren master!! I was at the opening night AWATS tour in Akron, if this is the show it's taken from. After the opening line stumble, he just KILLS IT. Man, his vocals torch and soar and rip at your eardrums! I thought "Is It My Name" was good on Todd, but my GOD, this version is INTENSE!!
This is my favorite album he did. These three songs together are great and good performance. Still have this original pressing on vinyl, perfect shape.
Sometime in late ‘73 I went to see TR. 1st half it was him on piano playing to backing tracks from first 3 records. Second half was full band and played nearly this whole album. To this day best concert I’ve ever seen.
I'm stunned. I never thought this could happen in recent years, but this live performance version has more dynamism and sonic power than any earlier concerts I've ever seen, and way more than the original LP. What a treat!
What a fantastic set of songs! Saw this show in Akron. Was mesmerized by Todd's ability to duplicate these tunes I had listened to for the previous 36 years, but had never heard live before. "Is It My Name," which I have always enjoyed, is now among my all-time fave Todd tunes.
WoW WoW WoW . Thanks so much !!! Fan since 4ever Didn't know they could still achieve this level ..Great Band . Sunset Bouilivard is an amazing piece of music .. must not be easy to perform it at this level and they nailed it .. and with real guts .. Almostt like 1975
One of the best live clips i've seen in decades. WOOOO GO TODD !!!! Watch the blonde to the left of todd in the front .See hiw she flows gently to the music. She is a veteran Toddie.
Holy sh&^!! This is f'n fantastic! I've not heard this before, at least not like this -- now listened to it 3 times over - what a blastin ' masterf-piece. Todd blows the mind again, and tight, tight band on material that is not easy. What to do? More Todd! There's always more!
I presume that the Gibson SG guitar that Todd is playing is the copy of Clapton's 'The Fool' (that Todd had owned for many years but later sold) which was gifted to him by a fan in the 80s.
Indeed. He actually got the guitar from Jackie Lomax in return for a loan, with an agreement to return it upon repayment. Repayment never came so Todd hung onto it until he sold it, reportedly to some Japanese collector for a six-figure sum.
I have this DVD and probably watched it a dozen times. Our hero at his best playing my favorite album ever congrats TR on the RRHOF, even though you might tell them to freak off.
I really enjoyed the show with Ringo on drums in Berkeley for an All-Star Jam. I was on a magical High spiritually deep in soul and for some reason I really remember 'pupils'
All I can say is thanks for pouring it on for your many thousands of fans, Todd. These songs sound as great as they did the day they were released -- but so tasty live!
very inspiring piece especially with that many talented artists supporting the piece at once. Its great to see how far music went and how some of us are just beginning to see where it was.
Some day the world will catch up to Todd Rundgren.
God i hope not !
@Donde Merlin Sad, but probably true. Although Todd knows now his fans are the coolest people on the planet.
Maybe. But I doubt it.
i know it's pretty off topic but do anybody know a good place to watch new series online?
Not a chance. He was ten steps ahead before toes were invented.
playing this incredibly complex album in its entirety live is mind blowing & just more proof of Todd's genius...and what a killer backing band
AND PLAYING IT JUST AS IT WAS RECORDED IN THE STUDIO IS NOT SOMETHING TODD LIKES DOING....I MISSED OUT ON SEEING THIS AT THE CIVIC IN AKRON OHIO BUT SO PURE TO SEE THIS VIDEO ❤❤❤ THANKS !!!✌🇺🇸

Sunset Boulevard is one of the most underrated songs. Complete genius...
Truth....
uh huh
the vocal tape delay on the LP tho
This man was soooo ahead of the curve. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Staggeringly good! I wanted to be Todd back then. Now aged 67 perhaps i still do.

Prairie Prince on drums--one of the best
Oh, no way!
& a really nice guy & great graphic designer-artist
I bought Wizard a True Star back in the day. I particularly liked the Soul Medley on the album.
The world will never catch up to Todd rundgren! That's the way it's supposed to be he's teaching us!
TR sweating like a pig, cranking out the riffs, voice in the best form ever, playing his masterwork, ..... Todd is Godd!!!! Sooooooo Cool!
True, only he needed to re-think dressing like he was still 17 once he was 57, if not before. WELL before.
Apparently in control of every thing but the AC. But he didn't care....what a masterpiece.
Agreed
