My idea for Scorn was that he’s obsessed with chivalry tales of knights and dragons, to a point where he sees himself as a Predacon (the aligned continuity kind) more than a Dinobot.
Scorn seems like he would challenge Grimlock the same way that Grimlock challenged prime. This dynamic would eventually help Grimlock become a better leader, giving him some of his own medicine and teaching him a lesson about leadership and in restraint. Grimlock comes out of this with a better appreciation and Scorn eventually becomes somewhat of an apprentice to Grimlock as he passes on what he knows to aid in realizing the future dinobot leader Scorn sees himself to be.
The idea of slag being the youngest could work, make him a war born autobot. And it fits in the previous depictions. For example in the tfp comics he assumed the cons were all evil when encountering an injured blackout.
I like the idea that Swoop is more of a technical/creative fighter than the other traditional dinobots. It works with the idea they're smarter than the other dinobots, and gives them a signature fighting style that would stand out from the others.
Something I thought of for Snarl is that since he later dumbs himself down is that he was always an outsider who finally found his group. He plays dumb but is wiser then he lets on so the others would accept him easier. When he and Swoop are alone they talk more normal. He/she knows Snarl is smarter but also knows that Snarl feels like the group only has room for one smart-person. Swoop and Snarl are better friends too since they became a member of the dinobots at the same time. (Mimicing the fact the they were created togheter by Wheeljack after the first three were already made)
I thought an interesting starting place for Slash would be the feeling of an imposter since she’s not strong like a “proper” Dinobot, but over time would come into her own.
Like she's afraid she doesn't fit in not being as strong or as durable as the rest of the team. But eventually finds her place as the nimblest member, dodging and weaving around while hacking at weak points.
@@DaPopeANata I like to think this ultimately come together as the Dinobots hurling Slash in a sort of Fastball Special, giving her the initiative edge as the team plows through a group of ‘Cons.
Isn't the combiner personality just a giant brutish idiot? Except Computron who is unable to do anything. And Predaking who is literally the only competent combiner because the components are so stupid.
I would say the Combaticons probably make it out the best, partially due each vehicle being more unique than most combiners, allowing for different roles and characterization that align with the vehicles. I suppose there's also the Breast Force & Brainmasters, but that feels a little unfair since they basically got an entire show dedicated to them.
@@R0-83-RT well the Combaticons also already have Swindle too as the one Combiner character that actually has a unique personality unlike almost any other char from a Combiner Team. Yea, the Breast Force and Brainmasters kinda stand as exceptions as they all are fairly unique and have their own personalities for the most part… or at least leagues above most of the others.
@@Megamanlanprime Even outside of Swindle, Onslaught is a strategic genius, Brawl is very notably hotheaded and simple, and Blastoff's space superiority seemingly inflates his ego a bit since he can do stuff the other Combaticons can't. IDW even further fleshed out Blastoff's personality by giving him feelings for Onslaught. The only member I would say is sort of lacking at this point is Vortex.
@@R0-83-RT yea, most of that is new, and hasn’t really been seen in any show. I do like RID Motormaster’s depiction as like a mob boss that thinks he owns the roads, but really, even now it’s still rare to come across a G1 Combiner team where they have much personality, unless they don’t combine (like the Animated Constructicons) Generally those are interesting although it could be developed a bit more. I actually like the idea if people want to integrate Obsidian and Strika into G1 that perhaps they have a rivalry with the Combaticons and could even be behind how their sparks were extracted and held in a Cybertronian prison.
Awesome ideas. I'd love an animated series of how this group of misfits come together and form the strongest Autobot team. Then talk about their clashes with their top adversaries.
I love this ideas for the group. I always found Grimlock as the only one with a consistent personality, since everyone else feels almost the same, even in voice. Cyberverse showed this in that only Grimlock & Swoop are actually memorable, since they had actual personalities.
Weird idea for Sludge that I just had borrowing from Terry Pratchet's disc world series: what if the colder it was (Like arctic cold, not space cold. There's a difference), the smarter he got due to his processors functioning better when shedding heat like that?
I'll always recall Sludge's profile from Dreamwave's MtMtE. It's from Grimlock's POV, where Grimlock says that Sludge's strength rivals his own, but because of his lack of intelligence Sludge is least likely to want to fight, that Grimlock often has to bully Sludge into the right mindset to be a warrior.... And how Grimlock knows it's not really right, but does what needs to be done to motivate Sludge.
I can see paddles and sludge getting along because of their mutual interest in humans, and maybe sludge would try and encourage her to be a more active member of the team or the dinobots don't pay attention to sludge because of his naivety and paddles stands up for him.....and I just shipped them didn't I?!
I want to imagine scars method of healing would be more making the pain numb to keep the fight going and wait till the fights over to actually mend the wounds then healing on the spot in the battlefield feels more in line with the dinobots combative nature
Your characterization of Sludge reminds me of Gor-illa from Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys. Calm and gentle until someone hurts his friends, then he turns into the Incredible Hulk.
I once had an idea of the Dinobots basically being the Orks from Warhammer 40k. But I ditched that and reimagined the Dinobots as rough-and -tumble former blue-collar workers. Grimlock would have been a construction worker, and is an amalgamation of RID15, Rescue Bots and Cyberverse Grimlock, with a War Within-esque vehicle mode, and Swoop as a former courier who turns into the hover-bike thing from Kamen Rider Revice. All these headcanon Dinobots would have anthropomorphic dinosaur robot modes, since other incarnations often stay in dino mode.
I always imagined the dino-bots being what I call "conditional triple-changers," where their T-cogs have a modification where it forcibly turns them into dinosaurs when they get angry or scared. This separate transformation was included for them to be used as shock troops as a last resort. Basically, you know things are bad when Grimlock suddenly turns into a T-Rex.
Slash: give her some neat cybertron solid light hologram mumbo jumbo. She makes a replica pack of herself, that's how she keeps slag in line. Snarl, not only wise, make him the Dino fuel specialist. He gathers energy in the plates for long term missions and would also explain his ability too hold their attention. Slag would need the fuel more than the rest due to the flamethrower role. Paddles, love the idea, but... Retcon his name too Surf, or Splash, or Shoal... Just not Paddles! 😆
I see slash as the mature little sister trope where she keeps the other dinobots in line(except swoop cause I agree with you she(based on cyberverse and possible modern takes of the character) is the smartest out of the bunch) I could see slash being intelligent but not to the level of swoop but smarter than grimlock slag snarl and sludge and she may see swoop as a big sister kind of thing. Now with scorn most definitely see him as the kind of inspired by medieval knights and be’s a bit chivalrous. Now scar I don’t see as their strategist(kinda like a Kup of the group) now paddles I see as female(cause of the alt mode being the inspiration of the Loch Ness monster) where she be the medic giving them a kind yet tough kind of touch when healing then
So is your lineup like this? Grimlock(leader),Slag(Second in command) Sludge ( Muscle) , Snarl ( Advisor ) ,Swoop ( Scientist ) Paddles ( Medic ) , Scar(???) , Slash ( Little sister to swoop ) , And finally Scorn ( Next dinobot leader?)
@@natishafrancis1215 scar I meant to be the demolition expert and scorn not necessarily the 2 Leader but more like beast wars silverbolt with a bit more of a knight twist to it
Some nice ideas and extrapolations from the baseline. My own idea for Slash is a bit different - I prefer her as the team medic, with a personality akin to Nickel from IDW or Recovery Girl from MHA.
Interesting take. Seems like a mashup of G1 and Cyberverse. My quick takes: Grimlock - Tactician, leader, disagrees with Optimus on several matter but still has begrudging respect for him, also still has the verbal tic but highly intelligent. Slag - violent hotheat, only Grimlock keeps him in line. Sludge - big bruiser and tank of the team, not as smart but not an idiot Snarl - Grumpy, antagonistic, also the only one who openly challenges Grimlock if he see a flaw in any plan or strategy from their leader Swoop - aerial reconnaissance and communication hub. Weakest of the Dinobots but he's also highly-skilled in dogfighting Scarr - pretty much the way TJ described their battlefield medic. Does what's necessary to get them back in the fight or (non-Dinobots) sends them back to Ratchet. Slash - again, agree with TJ here, she'd be the infiltrator/spy. I'd also add one of the most dangerous due to her skill set, although like Swoop comparatively weaker than the others. Scorn - second-in-command, very much a G1 Ultra Magnus type. Paddles - the Dinobot version of Aquaman from Superfriends 😁
your observation on Slag sound like Snarl but thous 2 were kinda interchange personally wise, I like the idea of Slag being the youngest. what you said for Sludge is near 1 to 1 what Dreamwave did in their Guild book. I now head cannon the Skar is the old worldly "I have seen scrap that will bleach your paint job" kinda bot and won't put up with Slag or Snarl attitudes.
I can agree with most of these. Slash in my mind is undoubtedly the little sister of the group though. All of them dote on her just a smidge. Movie Dinobots are harder to flesh out since they have literally nothing going on character wise. But looking at the toys I can at least give them each a DnD class to start with. Grimlock - Barbarian Strafe - Ranger Slug - Fighter (dual wield) Scorn - Fighter (spear) Snarl - Paladin Slash - Rogue Slog - Cleric
scorn would be the one who would disobey orders and do things his own way and have really bad anger issues and for strafe make him be the weapons expert of the dinobots, also change his beast mode from a 2-headed 2-tailed pteranodon to the massive quetzalcoatlus and his personality is that of a gentle giant, despite him being one of, if not, the tallest members of the dinobots and having a menacing looking hight and face he's actually kind and cares about his team, their allies and nature
Totally agree with most, Snarl to me is the silent type yes but he never speaks(if at all) he just grunts, thats why they call him Snarl. Swoop i agree should be the smartest but gets easily distracted, Almost like ADD. Slash is the scout and tracker. I got a soft spot for Scorn. To me Scorn is the one who feels he needs to earn the right to be apart of the team but has a huge sense of honour. This may just be me, but i think the Dinobots shouldnt have guns(except Swoop, he can have missiles), they should all have melee weapons. Grimlock keeps his sword, Slug has a Battle Axe , Sludge has a Bardiche, Snarl has a Great Axe, Swoop has Twin Kunais, Slash has Sais, Scarr has a Brute Mace and Scorn has his arm tail. And they all can cover the blade in fire like in Animated
Great work!my idea for snarl and swoop was snarl being a sinacal smart guy (specialty in engineering), a bit of a loner and swoop being a chipper and curious little brother like guy who helps him. Skar-my idea was a tough grief drawf like medic. Who acts a bit callies like "it's just a flesh wond" to a big hole in your gut. But actually cares a lot but doesn't show it. And paddles is the guy who goes to the deepest depths of the waters and meet and seen stranged stuff like Atlantans , loch ness monster and many others but is very friendly with people.
Personally I will go over the whole team, and with my headcanons in full force: *Grimlock* Grim is the one who is the most same to a canon depiction I would write him akin to G1 Marvel Comics Grim where he is inteligent and is very tactically focused, being sort of akin to how I write Shockwave. Grim specifically doesn't get along with the wreckers such as Impactor, Whirl, and Roadbuster as they see too much of who they faced in Grim where he could be seen as someone not to be trusted and rightfully so as Grim is willing to sacrifice someone outside of his group if needed, he is mainly an Autobot out of convienence as the others believe in the Autobot cause while he would be closest to a mercenary. When the war is nearing its end, Grim leaves as he feels too distant from the others, and he comes across the Scavengers in a bloodbath against a Decepticon Warlord like Turmoil and he joins and saves the runaway Decepticon group that also consists of some NAILs characters like Voxpop and he effectively becomes the strong quiet type, finding a soft side with Krok, Crankcase, and Misfire in part because before the war, he already knew Krok in my interpretation, being one of the few Cybertronians with a naturalized Beast Mode on Cybertron that isn't stuck to being a beast who transforms into a vehicle, so with Krok they were both targets of the functionists or prewar government bodies who did not want these cybertronians in their city states. *Skarr* Every team should have their medic, so Skarr returns for me no matter what, and he is often times one of Grim's oldest friends with Scorn, Skarr himself however is a lot like Animated Ratchet or the ninth doctor, he has seen too many die so he can come off as an asshole or cold at times because he doesn't want to show care so no one sacrifices themself for him or something of the sort. Also due to this he is the most backlines based Dinobot, he is the one who will come in and smash people with his mace, he will be willing to tank hits but he is the oldest so he doesn't stand for long, and for that, in order to protect their medic, Grimlock and the other original Dinobot of the team are the ones to jump to his aid the quickest. *Scorn* Scorn is a girl first off, and she is a very much the one who tried to charge to clean up when needed, as she sees the others as more capable than her even though given her height that is only rivaled by Paddles, and the aspect that she is the one who is most attuned to fighting, she should realistically be apart of the front lines, just using a sword instead of a lance in the form of her tail. She effectively a calvry unit and is the second in command of the group, and is the one that could scare the shit out of other dinobots given an outlier from her cybertronian beast mode, her Spinosaurus sails act as solar sails, allowing her to glide or boost along with bursts of energy being exerted with every action with them and because of that, she is surprisingly fast and strong and in beast mode is even more of a terrifying threat being a predatory dinosaur. *Paddles* The one left behind, they are the largest of the team, they are the one they don't call in because of the fact that they are the slowest on the uptick and is a religous Cybertronian who believes the will of the primes superceeds anyone like Grimlock, so Paddles is more often trying to listen to the command structure and because of this fact, is scarse among the other dinobots but they are the one more often being the relay for orders, acting as the guy in the chair trope. In combat though Paddles is the one most likely to spare life or be further behind preforming death rites for those who have fallen, ally or enemy, effectively they are clean up. Once Scorn takes charge, her approach allows for Paddles to be more active even though their approach is still being the outlier in battle. Paddles is also one of the founding members of the Dinobots when as apart of the Autobots, being from the archipeligos in the Sea of Rust prior to the war. *Swoop* Again femme Swoop, but instead of a scientist, she is a scruffy street rat, as the war began she and Snarl were expiremented upon, with others such as the Terrorcons she is one who did not entirely gel with her alt mode at first so she took longer to adjust once the autobots took her in and got given to Scorn and the others. She was a fan of everyone but Grimlock but ultimately she is a great hacker, lockpick, and ship hijacker, having her skills best utilized in hit and run sort of combat, being a form of support, often being the one to deploy Skarr deeper into the battle field when its too chaotic to push through. *Snarl* With Swoop, he was an expirement, taking to the beast mode too well to the point where he was stuck in it for days on end at a time, being one who is a sort of coward in the bit of it when in robot mode but when in beast mode being the one to be the quickest to help others, being a sort of tanky member similar to someone like Skarr, and even is a more auxillary role when outside of combat being the quartermaster of the Dinobots, the one who knows the most about each weapon and equipment needed, being the one who is the go too fiddler of the group. The only one he actually sticks around outside of his workshop though is Swoop given the factor of trauma bonding. *Slug* The Triceratops was a founding member when it was the Lightning Strike Collalition and he was the one who is the madman of the group, being someone who is more than willing to torture enemies and be triggerhappy, he nearly got transfered to the wreckers if it wasn't for his connection with Grimlock. Slug is someone who is also fairly flirtatious with other bots which is why he gained the name Slag, because it was a joke nickname but still he is the one to charge headfirst and kill more than being the one first to bed. *Sludge* The lovable dimwitt, he is the heart of the team, being the one who kept the team together for so long and is the reason why Grim left, because he was too injured from a sparring match to move and Grim believed pushing the boundaries of every Dinobot may have been best and when he realized how bad he hurt Sludge its why he left. Sludge is the youngest member of the group, being constructed cold as apart of the final generation harvested from Cybertron itself, he has a lot to learn but his size and heart leads him to be like Snarl in beast mode, ready to protect others first but unlike Snarl he is more than willing to fight in robot mode, being nearly as effective as someone like Slug when it came too it, ultimately being the best with a rifle in the group. *Slash* Slash is the most distant member, again being a founding member of the group like Sludge, Slug, Grim, Scorn, and Paddles, but she was originally a scout for Delta Magnus and after his death to which split the Lightning Strike Collition into subfactions like the Dinobots, she followed the Dinobots, reformatting her alt to a turbofox originally before becoming a velociraptor. Her past has her from Velocitron originally and being a low level speedster originally before Overcast got to her, taking her ability from her. As a Dinobot she is the scout and is more so akin to someone like Animated Prowl in being a ninja who studied under Banzaitron on a different colony world before the war, now giving her use among the Dinobots being ready to spy for long term missions among other groups for intel. *Kakuryu* Remember Grimmaster? Yeah, Kakuryu switched sides being similar to Paddles in being friendly with alien species and is the most laidback member of the Dinobots, only knowing when Scorn lead. Kakuryu was the guardian of a titan left on Earth, being the guardian of the Terrans but unlike the rest of Dinoking he wasn't corrupted by the Decepticons once the war came to Earth, effectively being the actual oldest but he was never awoken for nearly a billion years, leaving him with the mental age of someone who is sort of young leaning in age like Swoop. (Dinoking can still form though as Iguanus takes up Kakuryu's spot while Dinoking is still Decepticon alligned)
My ideas Grimlock: giga-chad berseker philosopher king, wot? Slag: Lancer, challenges grimlock for command or otherwise just butts heads him often for ready triceratops versus trex action. Swoop: the rattrap. Feels personally Intimidated by skydive. Sludge: the actually stupid one, but he brings the thunder when needed! Snarl: caveman secretly suffering from a nucleon addiction trying to hide it from others. Triceradon: well meaning member who is appreciated but all are confused by his presence, Especially by his rhino hat Slash: the clever girl. Striker: secretly an evil wizard verison of snarl from another universe with a third cryptid plant mode. Skar: the hologram doctor from voyager but a solid caveman dinobot Paddles: the Pete Best Scorn: when the coconut is mine then you'll feel a Pirate's scorn! Skydive: court jester, bardolic in nature. Slug: a dimetrodon who is female in this verison of the character. A knight in training, also the designated cute member of the group. Grindstone: previous leader, now drummer of the group. Grimstone/Dinomaster: an evil dinobot who attempted to overthrow an ancient dinobot leader by combining with the minicons to form the nine-o-saur at which point he was defeated. Seeks to return as leader of the dinobots.
If I was doing this I'd do the following; all of the other changes from the vid work great: Slag- I would make him the most battle hungry; and frame a lot of his interests outside of combat still come back to it. Like make one of the humans introduce metalworking to him with the idea of refining his pyrotechnical abilities. His interest isn't hooked until he discovers blacksmithing; making him the one who maintains the physical weaponry of the team. Sludge- I would make him very aware of his diminished intellect and that would make him most curious of the team. No matter what world he's on, if there is no battle to fight, he is the sort who would wander around and try to understand more. Keeping his dim nature, he might make a mess wherever he goes, but he's always willing to try to fix it. He's very friendly with organic life and other species but can forget how fragile they are compared to him. I could see him assuming his brachiosaur form and trudging through the Everglades or following a herd of elephants across the Serengeti. Snarl- I like TJ's idea of him being the oldest and the most taciturn; I think I'd also make him something of a student of history. Either him or Scar would be the one who looks into the tactics of ancient warriors to see what could be implemented in the present. I could see him and Kup being very tight friends because of this mentality. Paddles- I'd kind of make Paddles a bit like Gohan from DBZ: largely void of the more warlike aspects of his brethren, but their being a deep well of anger or frustration at not being able to be of more use due to his overly specialized form. It'd give him a reason to be deadly serious and determined on those rare occasions where he is needed.
I've always preferred the designs and character traits of the Decepticons. The Dinobots are practically the only group of robots I love in terms of design when it comes to the Autobots. And I guess it's also because I just have a huge bias for dinosaurs. I mean dinosaurs + robots? That's an 80s child-ideal combination.
Honestly, I have never been a big fan of the Dinobots because they all do that "Me Name" thing when they talk. This has been changed over the years and honestly I love the Cyberverse version of Grimlock because he's a representation of DID and he only has the speech impediment in Beast Mode. Fall of Cybertron also made Swoop the smart one but kept him male playing into the original tech specs on the toys calling Swoop the tactician of the team. You can't have a dumb tactician. I don't know what to do with the other 3. Even in Cyberverse where they felt the most different the other 3 still felt really similar to each other. I think because they weren't in the show that much and only Swoop really got any character development of the S named Dinobots. Speaking of which... the fact that all their names are so similar except for Grimlock doesn't help matters.
IIRC, Don Figueroa made a bunch of Dinobot original character designs that he posted on Twitter back in August, so I'm thinking that they can be incorporated into this discussion somehow.
Great video. Kind of funny, the evil version of the Dinobots, the evil pirates Geists from Brave Exkaiser, have the personalities you give to the original 5 dinobots. It's kind of funny how reusing the dinobots for evil help the writers give these more expanded personalities to the Transformer Dinobots.
I think they need 2 teams of dinobots: the og 5 and Volcanicus, who would consist of Slash, paddles, skar, scorn and a new fifth one. Then, we can have the og dinobots that don’t combine, and Volcanicus who is made of the fan favorite obscure dinobots. Win-win!
Personally, now that you mention it. I think having the Dinobots be in sync is more of a bonus than anything negative. Now that doesn't mean that the individuals can't more developed in characterisation. Though it feels like literally everything is getting reinvented to mixed results, if it isn't broken why try to fix what's not broken? Personally the Fall of Cybertron depiction of the Dinobots is a good balance between tradition and giving them a fresh coat of paint: Grimlock - Just an aggressive Autobot that solves all of his problems by direct method possible. (Also got experimented on by Shockwave like all of the FOC Dinobots) Slug - Grimlock's 2nd command, just as willing to run head straight on into battle, as he is to call Optimus Prime for help when needed (even against Grimlock orders). Swoop - The hot head, doesn't mean he can't also be the smart one of the Dinobots (I think he was the one that mostly understood what Shockwave was doing?) . Snarl - The rookie (or that's how I interpreted his single line of dialogue) always needing saving and/or falling into traps. Though still not to be underestimated. Sludge - In the game he's kinda... dead? So can't get much character out of him obviously but, I prefer to reinterpretated his slowness being more deep in thought. He doesn't say much ironically doesn't like fighting and is the gentle gaint of the Dinobots. When he does say something it's normally just a sentence and when he has to fight. He can rival Grimlock in terms of strength and unwillingness to go down. (Also I can see him being the medic if Scare can't be an option) Extra members: Mostly just Slash since, she got a G1 design also easy way to both get the 2nd favourite Dinosaur in Transformers outside of BW and to get a fembot on the team (as I'm 100% against changing a preexisting character's gender). Then of course there's Scare, the medic and since he's a Dinobot medic he takes a direct approach to fixing Autobots. Need to put under for surgery? He'll simply knock you out by bonking you on the head. Also when rushing someone back to emergency repairs he doesn't care what's in the way, walls and bots alike will get knocked down.
Here's 4 more ideas. 7. Tell us your ideas for rodimus primal and maximal bumblebee 8 . how would you do a modern autobot brothers 9. Make a pitch for a transformers cybertron game 10 . give us your idea for an autobot couterpart of the combaticons
For me I would make Scorn be the War Veteran that’s been in any and every war, that’s why he uses his Dino tail and head as his hands and why he uses that battle helemt/mask
I like for them to be "born" on earth and their archenemy is the predacons ( tf prime version). SWOOP: cyberverse version ( fanfiction has a crush on a sarcastic, smartmoth, rebellious human). Paddles : loves the seas. SLASH: the rattrap of the group. SLUDGE: the gullible lovable oaf like dory from finding Nemo GRIMLOCK: foc character. SCORN: the dinobot of the group who thinks he should lead the dinobots. STRAFE: different dinomode different character. They are still dinobots so they still have their beast instincts.
Personally I'd have Scorn be like, a traitor to the Dinobots who went rogue and became a bounty hunter or something, and something happened that made him hate the rest of the team and have a personal vandetta against them. Idk why, that's just where I'd go with him.
If you're confused by the 7 to 10, look at the comments of your earthspark review about jawbreaker's alt mode. I add in case these are the first comments you seen that's form me.
"Didn't question Rodimus" because season 3 Grimlock wasn't the same as season 1&2 Grimlock. S3 was written to appeal more to kids as a cute dinosaur rather than the threatening warrior he was in early seasons.
I’ll be honest the one thing I don’t like about the Cyberverse team is that they follow too much on G1 when they had an opportunity to do something different with the team I mean they only added snarl because he’s a G1 standard the message that grim locks send. Where are they based on their alternate modes didn’t include a stegosaurus.
@@cristiantiniguar-sevilla467 I just made him be willing to do anything for Grimlock, as well as having him be atracted to his leader. While Grim is smarter than in most depictions, he isn't smart enough to notice.
I have my own idea of making the dinobots unique among each other (Which while most of this idea is coming from my own fan-fic universe idea for the team as I am currently writing my own universe take on the whole story where most of the war took place on cybertron and earth is never a factor with different takes on characters like The Stunticons coming from Velocitron instead of being true native Cybertronians, BUT back to the idea on hand being the Dinobots.) My idea is that for the dinobots for my take is that instead of just 5 BUT there are a group of 10 Dinobots each servering as a Specialized team similar to the Wreckers or the Elite Guard. For Grimlock while yes agreed with the Speech problem BUT have him be a legendary general who is willing to take down the Enemy as quick as possible(as agreeing with Tj here.),The rest of these dinobots would have more speech capabilities while Grimlock is the only one with the "Me Grimlock" style speech. Grimlock's Second-in-Command for my idea is Slug, who is one of the few other Dinobots who could keep Grimlock in check and make sure that he is reducing the damage to near zero but not traditionally stopping him. I would want my version of Slug as a More cautious Autobot who wants to get the job done yes but with more priority to the others around him and having a more gruff Kup like Personality and speech pattern. Sludge for me, would be the groups Medic, More of a war-time medic similar to that of Animated Ratchet, one who is willing to heal his troops while also putting bullets into Decepticon heads. Snarl would be the tech officer for me, one with a bit more intellagence than the rest while trying to keep this team of brutes together. He relies more on technical answers over violent ones. Swoop for me would be a care free type due to the simple fact that Swoop is the Air Support for the Dinobots, one that kind of forgets at times that he is meant to be at war and just has a head in the clouds. Then I would like to add Scarr, Scorn, Paddles, Slash and Grimstone for the remaining five. Scarr for me would be a Demolitions Expert, one who has worked with Explosives which even before the war broke out as a mining demolitions expert thus able to adapt his skills from pre-war times to becoming the team's best expert on Explosives, how to place and Disarm them. for me and this will be in my own little universe which is Scorn, Slash and Paddles being the three that are Female Dinobots with Scorn being the Team's Weapons officer that would give Scorn a "Strika" type of personality, this big girl that knows her away around the weapons and know how use them plus to have a big bruiser on the team clashing with Grimlock when it comes to weapon layouts and possibilities. Slash being the smallest of the 10 dinobots, would be a Scout, which as agreed with TJ here she would scout off into enemy lines and bring the information back. Paddles is the in my opinion and with my work is a specialist being that she would be a Water Combative expert and more of the team Scientist, who would go out into the field and check with scientific finds to bring her team the next advantage via the wildlife. Finally my 10th Dinobot would be the rookie of the group, the youngster that would make the rookie mistake of the team, the Styracosaurus himself, Grimstone. Grimstone would just be the one trying to learn from these Legendary commandos, which each member before gaining their Dino modes would be the best of the best at what the did before coming together with the Dinobots. Six of the Ten Dinobots(Namely Grimlock, Sludge, Slug, Snarl, Swoop, and Skarr) forming Volcanicus when things are going far too south for them to win, now I only would have my version of the Dinobots form Volcanicus in a very Dirge situation, like I imagine my version of the Dinobots as a seasoned team of Autobots who are literally strong enough that as normal robots can fight most combiners on their own, the only reason I am throwing in the choice of becoming Volcanicus is when they come up against a large group of Combiners or literally when fighting a Titan, and the positions I would have the bots in their combined form is Grimlock as the upper torso/head, Skarr as the Lower torso/lower body, Sludge as the left Arm, Slug as the Left Leg, Swoop as the Right arm, and Snarl as the Right Leg. The role for the remaining four is that when the others combined into Volcanicus is that they are to make sure things don't get out of hand and have Volcanicus go on a rampage since as said only in Dirge emergencies like a gang of combiners or even a titan they come up against, is only when that raw strength is unleashed. I hope this look into my delusional fantasy of the Dinobots is just as good as you all of your idea, this is just my idea that when I get down to it(currently writing a Beast Wars Story that goes before it with the idea that the Maximals and Predacons were force to Leave Eukarius and had to go to Cybertron where some higher up bots wanted to make them forget their home planet then years later when the Autobots and Decepticons leave to secure off world colonies like Velocitron and the Planet of Junk, the Maximals and Predacons took control of Cybertron Mostly. and thus the story sees the group of Maximals and Predacons land on a jungle lush planet and rediscover their origins on a now radically changed Eukarius.) I want to bring in the idea that these Dinobots were force to come together as this team of Commandos that gave inspiration to the Wreckers as the Dinobots where only a team called when the heavy guns were really needed. I hope this idea of mine doesn't sound too stupid, but its the best I came up with to be a bit unique for my take on the Dinobots.
Scorn be the one just waiting to over throw Grimlock, but Grimlock still too strong, allies yes but willing to control when he wants. Whereas Grimlock is brute strength, Scorn be do it or die trying.
@@CaptainFordoCanonizingCommitee I wouldn't see him like Starscream just a similar niche n the group, he'd be more the opportunist to take control through might Scream does it through cunning.
What's funny is with swoop you can have both I'd like a more G1 but slightly more intelligent swoop who's a guy and a broozer and when you see him fly over it's like a bomber. and make the cyberverse swoop a new addition to the team I'd combine idw and the age of extinction strafe and have a two headed pterodactyl who's the navigator/ stealth flying scout it would just be the cyberverse swoop now named strafe make the most intelligent out of them all too maybe because she has two heads now she has twice the brain power.
I’ve actually got an idea for the mammoth/mastodon character. His name will be Sledge. For the sabertooth tiger, I don’t know what I would call her, because I’m trying to homage MMPR with the Dino modes.
The Marvel comic really dialed up Grimlock's arrogance, especially when it came to leading the Autobots. Made him a very unlikeable character compared to the G1 cartoon.
I'll be honest, I always found the Dinobots a bit boring for this reason. Yeah, dinosaurs are cool but besides Grimlock they're too samey. These are some cool ideas.
I'm sorry, but gender-bending characters is not cool. Swoop being female? nope. Not down with it. If you have to make a drastic change to a character just to fit a narrative, especially a change this big, then might as well just create a new character to slot into your story. I don't care how good the character is, it seizes to be the established character. They could have kept the look, changed the name, made her Swoops twin sister, that I could accept. "Smart" Grimlock? it worked for one episode. That's how it should be.
Paddles would be that cool grandmother that gives you energon cookies for simply using the door
And if you harm her grandbabies, you learn why she is called Paddles
My idea for Scorn was that he’s obsessed with chivalry tales of knights and dragons, to a point where he sees himself as a Predacon (the aligned continuity kind) more than a Dinobot.
So basically, Cybertronian Don Quixote
More so a reverse Dinobot from beast wars, and like Shining Knight from JLU
Scorn’s beast mode is also semi aquatic, don’t forget.
Also, we get a red themed lancer.
@@gyrrakavian we get a red themed lancer no matter what
Damn that's a 180 turn from my Scorn who just simps for Grimlock
The idea of slag being the youngest could work, make him a war born autobot. And it fits in the previous depictions. For example in the tfp comics he assumed the cons were all evil when encountering an injured blackout.
I like the idea that Swoop is more of a technical/creative fighter than the other traditional dinobots. It works with the idea they're smarter than the other dinobots, and gives them a signature fighting style that would stand out from the others.
Rescue Bots portrayed Slash as a tracker. That goes well with the infiltrator/spy/scout thing.
I feel like I have Heard this 7 times already.
Like she's afraid she doesn't fit in not being as strong or as durable as the rest of the team. But eventually finds her place as the nimblest member, dodging and weaving around while hacking at weak points.
@@DaPopeANata
I like to think this ultimately come together as the Dinobots hurling Slash in a sort of Fastball Special, giving her the initiative edge as the team plows through a group of ‘Cons.
Give her the Edward Elric berserk button over being called short in any manner.
She's like the Bumblebee of the Dinobots (but probably way deadlier since, she's a raptro)
You could make this an actual series since almost all of the Combiner Teams have a barely existent Combined personality too
Isn't the combiner personality just a giant brutish idiot?
I do like RID Motormaster’s depiction as like a mob boss that thinks he owns the roads, but really, even now it’s still rare to come across a G1 Combiner team where they have much personality, unless they don’t combine (like the Animated Constructicons)
Generally those are interesting although it could be developed a bit more.
The way you described sludge I just pictured Kronk from emperors new groove as a giant dinosaur robot
I think there should be a nameless Dinobot, and that he would have a really high sense of honor.
-Get it? 😉
I can see paddles and sludge getting along because of their mutual interest in humans, and maybe sludge would try and encourage her to be a more active member of the team or the dinobots don't pay attention to sludge because of his naivety and paddles stands up for him.....and I just shipped them didn't I?!
Same and yes
Yes you did, and I love it.
I see scorn as, ironically, like beast wars dinobot, the type to give you a weapon so they can have a fair fight with you to keep their honor
… I’ve been keeping it secret for a while now, but you basically describe a good chunk of my Dinobots to a Tee
My quick takes:
Grimlock - Tactician, leader, disagrees with Optimus on several matter but still has begrudging respect for him, also still has the verbal tic but highly intelligent.
Slag - violent hotheat, only Grimlock keeps him in line.
Sludge - big bruiser and tank of the team, not as smart but not an idiot
Snarl - Grumpy, antagonistic, also the only one who openly challenges Grimlock if he see a flaw in any plan or strategy from their leader
Swoop - aerial reconnaissance and communication hub. Weakest of the Dinobots but he's also highly-skilled in dogfighting
Scarr - pretty much the way TJ described their battlefield medic.
Can Sludge be voiced by Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick from SpongeBob and TFA Bulkhead)?
That is very on the nose, and I am here for it
your observation on Slag sound like Snarl but thous 2 were kinda interchange personally wise, I like the idea of Slag being the youngest. what you said for Sludge is near 1 to 1 what Dreamwave did in their Guild book.
Grimlock - Barbarian
Strafe - Ranger
Slug - Fighter (dual wield)
Scorn - Fighter (spear)
Snarl - Paladin
Slash - Rogue
Slog - Cleric
scorn would be the one who would disobey orders and do things his own way and have really bad anger issues and for strafe make him be the weapons expert of the dinobots, also change his beast mode from a 2-headed 2-tailed pteranodon to the massive quetzalcoatlus and his personality is that of a gentle giant, despite him being one of, if not, the tallest members of the dinobots and having a menacing looking hight and face he's actually kind and cares about his team, their allies and nature
Wow that's a 180° turn in comparison to my Scorn who's a boot-licking Simp
Slice *with giant energon fist injector*: my dinos never go extinct!
Snarl could use his back plates to project/play his memories on
Very flattered to have inspired a video with my question XD
Swoop was always my favorite and I absolutely love your take
Totally agree with most, Snarl to me is the silent type yes but he never speaks(if at all) he just grunts, thats why they call him Snarl.
Personally I will go over the whole team, and with my headcanons in full force:
*Grimlock*
Grim is the one who is the most same to a canon depiction I would write him akin to G1 Marvel Comics Grim where he is inteligent and is very tactically focused, being sort of akin to how I write Shockwave.
*Skarr*
Every team should have their medic, so Skarr returns for me no matter what, and he is often times one of Grim's oldest friends with Scorn, Skarr himself however is a lot like Animated Ratchet or the ninth doctor, he has seen too many die so he can come off as an asshole or cold at times because he doesn't want to show care so no one sacrifices themself for him or something of the sort.
*Scorn*
Scorn is a girl first off, and she is a very much the one who tried to charge to clean up when needed, as she sees the others as more capable than her even though given her height that is only rivaled by Paddles, and the aspect that she is the one who is most attuned to fighting, she should realistically be apart of the front lines, just using a sword instead of a lance in the form of her tail.
*Paddles*
The one left behind, they are the largest of the team, they are the one they don't call in because of the fact that they are the slowest on the uptick and is a religous Cybertronian who believes the will of the primes superceeds anyone like Grimlock, so Paddles is more often trying to listen to the command structure and because of this fact, is scarse among the other dinobots but they are the one more often being the relay for orders, acting as the guy in the chair trope.
*Swoop*
Again femme Swoop, but instead of a scientist, she is a scruffy street rat, as the war began she and Snarl were expiremented upon, with others such as the Terrorcons she is one who did not entirely gel with her alt mode at first so she took longer to adjust once the autobots took her in and got given to Scorn and the others. She was a fan of everyone but Grimlock but ultimately she is a great hacker, lockpick, and ship hijacker, having her skills best utilized in hit and run sort of combat, being a form of support, often being the one to deploy Skarr deeper into the battle field when its too chaotic to push through.
*Snarl*
With Swoop, he was an expirement, taking to the beast mode too well to the point where he was stuck in it for days on end at a time, being one who is a sort of coward in the bit of it when in robot mode but when in beast mode being the one to be the quickest to help others, being a sort of tanky member similar to someone like Skarr, and even is a more auxillary role when outside of combat being the quartermaster of the Dinobots, the one who knows the most about each weapon and equipment needed, being the one who is the go too fiddler of the group. The only one he actually sticks around outside of his workshop though is Swoop given the factor of trauma bonding.
*Slug*
The Triceratops was a founding member when it was the Lightning Strike Collalition and he was the one who is the madman of the group, being someone who is more than willing to torture enemies and be triggerhappy, he nearly got transfered to the wreckers if it wasn't for his connection with Grimlock. Slug is someone who is also fairly flirtatious with other bots which is why he gained the name Slag, because it was a joke nickname but still he is the one to charge headfirst and kill more than being the one first to bed.
*Sludge*
The lovable dimwitt, he is the heart of the team, being the one who kept the team together for so long and is the reason why Grim left, because he was too injured from a sparring match to move and Grim believed pushing the boundaries of every Dinobot may have been best and when he realized how bad he hurt Sludge its why he left.
*Slash*
Slash is the most distant member, again being a founding member of the group like Sludge, Slug, Grim, Scorn, and Paddles, but she was originally a scout for Delta Magnus and after his death to which split the Lightning Strike Collition into subfactions like the Dinobots, she followed the Dinobots, reformatting her alt to a turbofox originally before becoming a velociraptor.
*Kakuryu*
Remember Grimmaster?
Absolutely love these ideas for the dinobots
My ideas
Grimlock: giga-chad berseker philosopher king, wot?
Slag: Lancer, challenges grimlock for command or otherwise just butts heads him often for ready triceratops versus trex action.
Swoop: the rattrap. Feels personally Intimidated by skydive.
Sludge: the actually stupid one, but he brings the thunder when needed!
Snarl: caveman secretly suffering from a nucleon addiction trying to hide it from others.
Triceradon: well meaning member who is appreciated but all are confused by his presence, Especially by his rhino hat
Slash: the clever girl.
Striker: secretly an evil wizard verison of snarl from another universe with a third cryptid plant mode.
Skar: the hologram doctor from voyager but a solid caveman dinobot
Paddles: the Pete Best
Scorn: when the coconut is mine then you'll feel a Pirate's scorn!
If I was doing this I'd do the following; all of the other changes from the vid work great:
Slag- I would make him the most battle hungry; and frame a lot of his interests outside of combat still come back to it.
I hope Cyberverse is Swoop's Heart of ice, much like how Animated Became Ratchet's Heart of Ice or Bayverse for Bee
IIRC, Don Figueroa made a bunch of Dinobot original character designs that he posted on Twitter back in August, so I'm thinking that they can be incorporated into this discussion somehow.
I liked the ascetic they had in FOC with the Insecticons. Quality vs Quantity.
Win-win!
I want a small spinoff comic or something that's an adventure with all the dinobots that arent the main 5
This is a great thought experiment.
Grimstone can be thrown in the mix too. I’d make him a fresh protoform that they found and now they’re stuck with him
Personally, now that you mention it. I think having the Dinobots be in sync is more of a bonus than anything negative.
Now that doesn't mean that the individuals can't more developed in characterisation. Though it feels like literally everything is getting reinvented to mixed results, if it isn't broken why try to fix what's not broken?
Personally the Fall of Cybertron depiction of the Dinobots is a good balance between tradition and giving them a fresh coat of paint:
Grimlock - Just an aggressive Autobot that solves all of his problems by direct method possible. (Also got experimented on by Shockwave like all of the FOC Dinobots)
Slug - Grimlock's 2nd command, just as willing to run head straight on into battle, as he is to call Optimus Prime for help when needed (even against Grimlock orders).
(Also I can see him being the medic if Scare can't be an option)
Extra members:
Mostly just Slash since, she got a G1 design also easy way to both get the 2nd favourite Dinosaur in Transformers outside of BW and to get a fembot on the team (as I'm 100% against changing a preexisting character's gender).
7. Tell us your ideas for rodimus primal and maximal bumblebee
8 . how would you do a modern autobot brothers
9. Make a pitch for a transformers cybertron game
10 . give us your idea for an autobot couterpart of the combaticons
*making the dinobots actual characters xd
You forgot about Grimmaster, which used to be on the Dino Force, but switch over to the Dinobots at the end of the series.
this makes me want a dinobots show
Me Todd has a theoty on Swoop. Swoop speaks that way so everyone would underestimate him.
So, Slash is almost as hot-headed as Slag/Slug, but more focused? Maybe even a berserk button?
I really like G1 Marvel Grimlock and Cyberverse Swoop a lot.
Very enjoyable video
"Didn't question Rodimus" because season 3 Grimlock wasn't the same as season 1&2 Grimlock. S3 was written to appeal more to kids as a cute dinosaur rather than the threatening warrior he was in early seasons.
Maybe sludge is secretly a space bridge engineer
Would this work for the new comic series from Image?
I’ll be honest the one thing I don’t like about the Cyberverse team is that they follow too much on G1 when they had an opportunity to do something different with the team I mean they only added snarl because he’s a G1 standard the message that grim locks send. Where are they based on their alternate modes didn’t include a stegosaurus.
Wait tj omega would you like a new transformers cinematic universe and what if the dinobots get their own series
I meant autobot recolors of the combaticons with new names in that last one. What you be the team name? I'm thinking brutibots.
Paddles would be a surfer dude kinda cool uncle
I made my universe's Scorn a Simp.
Elaborate.
Now.
Scorn deserves to be a pirate!
@@cristiantiniguar-sevilla467 I just made him be willing to do anything for Grimlock, as well as having him be atracted to his leader. While Grim is smarter than in most depictions, he isn't smart enough to notice.
@@CaptainFordoCanonizingCommitee So you made them IDW Blast-off and Onslaught
@@GokhanAras-pj1mm Yes
Instead of being the least intelligent, how about sludge being the most innocent and naive of the dinobots?
Slag was pretty keen to finish optimus, if Grimlock didnt stop him Slag would have killed him in war of the dinobots
im loving this. here's hoping earthspark swoop is female
you mean like what cyberverse did?
Scorn be the one just waiting to over throw Grimlock, but Grimlock still too strong, allies yes but willing to control when he wants. Whereas Grimlock is brute strength, Scorn be do it or die trying.
So he's Starscream?
Does anybody have an idea for a sabertooth tiger and mammoth/mastodon Dinobot?
How could you leave out the best dinobot lol,bw dinobot 😅
I'm sorry, but gender-bending characters is not cool. Swoop being female? nope. Not down with it.
If you have to make a drastic change to a character just to fit a narrative, especially a change this big, then might as well just create a new character to slot into your story. I don't care how good the character is, it seizes to be the established character. They could have kept the look, changed the name, made her Swoops twin sister, that I could accept. "Smart" Grimlock? it worked for one episode. That's how it should be.
Dilligaf?
AOE toy colors. That is all
