- Learn how to make DIY conductive paint out of Elmer's glue and graphite powder.
This cheap conductive graphite paint is great to have on hand when you are making simple electronics projects with your kids - it essentially acts like simple solder (but not nearly as good as solder).

Use this DIY conductive paint to connect joints in paper circuits or simple projects involving small LED lights where you don't want to solder. I use copper tape, CR2032 batteries, and cheap LEDs when I make these projects, check out our blog to get some great ideas!

Great work, keep on going. U have the making of a Scientist
hi graphite is not made from lead so no worries there but do not inhale the dust Pencils do not contain any lead metal. just seen video
thanks
Thank you for you video very good
1miltond I agree with this comment.
All the best
Thank you!
Thank you, but can you also use it for button contacts like for calculator buttons?
yes
Beautiful explanation from a beautiful lady. Thank you.
Do you have experience to make the conductive paint/ink waterproof? Of course also not toxisch.
What application are you using the paint for that you are hoping is waterproof? I can't think of anythign non-toxic at the moment but you caould certainly paint over the whole circuit with some sort of rubber paint that is insulating (and thus would not short your circuit)
Rosie Research Ah thank you Rosie. Good idea. I want to make a wall heater!
I recommend you close the graphite powder can as soon as possible, or use a mask, as that dust is fine and I heard that can have health hazards! Not sure about the info, the other videos are saying this, but you know when it's a health hazard it's best to assume the worse case scenario!
Also, I think it'll make more beautiful circuits if you put the solution in a squeeze bottle.
That's a great point, I'll make sure to remind people next time I make a graphite video! Great idea on the squeeze bottle, way easier than trying to paint it on.
can i use it on the keyboard plastic, some lines are cut off due to corrosion.
I have the same question. Keys stopped working, currently I'm using aluminum foil with tape, but it doesn't hold for long.
WHY ARE WE NOT FUNDING THIS? Thank you Rosie, from one educator to another this is extremely helpful tutorial!
PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO DIY EMF SHIELDING CONDUCTIVE HOUSEPAINT, WITH THE RIGHT FORMULA, ON WALLS & CEILING BECAUSE THE PAINT IS SO EXPENSIVE - 5 LTRS / $300. THANKS. WATCHING IN CANADA
That sounds like a really cool project! I'll look into it :)
Does it scratch off easily?
It does a pretty good job - if you're worried about repeated scratching you can put some tape over it!
Does this only work on paper? And does graphite stick can make it work?
It should work on anything - by graphite stick do you mean a pencil? I dont think you can get thick enough coverage, but it should work in theory.
Thank you and why does it work on glue?
I like you 🙂
I wonder why there is need to explain that you don't eat the glue or the graphite.
You never know :) Better to play it safe and put it out there!
you must have no children , they will eat anything
You could simply get a double sided conductive tape instead, for the same price, cause in the one-side tape the adesive material could not be a conductor, so the circuit will be cut on the joints. But your paint could be a better choice at some applications 👍. You look cute by the way. Thanks for the video.
hi graphite is not made from lead
Your copper tape needs to have conductive adhesive. Then you wouldn’t have to use the graphite.
The whistling sound.........
your little demo with copper tape does not work because the copper tape is on top of an edhesive. The adhesive does not conduct electricity.
Yep, I talk about that in the blog post, although often you can make the two layers of copper tape close enough together for the adhesive to act as a minor resistor.
Layering the tape is much easier than bending for little hands, which is why the conductive paint comes in handy!
u can also try with a z axis tape. www.adafruit.com/product/1656
I've heard great things about z-axis tape, unfortunately, it is too $$ for my community science programs that are on a shoestring, but I do agree they can be a great alternative for families!
pencil lead is a bad analogy theres no lead in pencils its the same as the black in in soy ink .lead is a scary word these says
Why do you talk too much. Are you always like that. 😑
It's a tutorial you asshat ofcourse she's going to explain what she's doing!
