i guess im randomly asking but does anyone know a method to log back into an Instagram account?
I somehow forgot my login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Marcellus Donald instablaster :)
@Luis Orlando thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Luis Orlando DAMN IT REALLY WORKED! I just got access to my IG account details within ~ 30 mins of using the site.
I had to pay 15 $ but definitely worth the money :)
Thank you so much you saved my ass :D
@Marcellus Donald Happy to help =)
I forced myself to struggle through this interview. Goodhart's hesitancy, circumlocution, virtue-signalling qualifiers and difficulty in making eye contact are physical manifestations of the inability of middle-class Liberals to find solutions to the terrible consequences of their cult-like adherence to their world view. Goodhart has begun to understand this but he is anxious to maintain his place in the left-wing intelligentsia power group. 'Everyone is a potential friend' just about sums up the childish delusion of this group. That he is head of something called a Demography think tank is further evidence that as a nation we are lost.
That is the best summary I have read in a very long time. Thank you.
Glad someone else also picked upon this - a laborious, hesitant - typical liberal speaking, squirming and not having the backbone to be clear and more committed one way or another.... Anywhere or somewhere? No, this guy is Nowhere!
I agree. Although I appreciate him sticking his neck out publicly to the extent that he has. It's much easier for us who remain anonymous (and who don't have careers depending on being politically correct).
Brilliant summary of this guys positions and presence as one holding such shaky and failed positions as well as his inability to admit as much! As an American who has only been paying attention to our cousins across the pond for the past 4-5 years, all I can add is this; Please get all who are in power and been in power who sold out your beautiful and unique culture away from the levers of power and out of any positions of influence as soon as humanly possible!
There truly is something extremely special and unique and beautiful about the English culture, system, mindset, etc., etc., That is as difficult to put a finger on and point out as it is to define, as well as extremely frustrating to observe as an outsider rooting for you guys while you seem to be clinging to that British stiff upper lip, while we are over here yelling “hurry up guys you don’t have that much time to turn this thing around!”
'Everyone is a potential friend' - like members of the Muslim and LGBT communities?
Immigration is discussed superficially, its all about numbers. No one is discussing the cultural impact on society. Mass immigration causes division. We were never asked if this is what we want.
The problem is more nuanced than those who just want to stop immigration, most of the ‘somewheres’ I should imagine, with some flexibility towards Commonwealth residents. The Nowhere’s are mostly internationalists who don’t appear to care about the culture of the existing society, they always talk in terms of financial effects, especially those on the left. The effects of high levels of immigration spread throughout the country and they affect everything from housing, benefits, schools, hospitals and everything else that needs public taxation. Why should the existing population, who have paid quite high levels of taxation throughout their lives, in the expectation of a decent retirement, suddenly find thousands of non contributory incomers have received high levels of benefits, especially housing and money.
It may be that they believe the culture of the existing society is only really Liberalism - tolerance. Thousands of years of European history reduced down to simply tolerance.
Nice to hear a blackbird in the background (instead of a circular saw).
Mike Page the gigantic birdcage has been built.
Agreed. lol
Peter, I don't know how you do it, but please don't stop finding these wonderful people to interview. I very much appreciate the way you encourage and allow them to speak and expand their thoughts too.
No doubt at some point this channel will get closed down or censored in some way by RUclips as it clearly promotes far too much rational thinking and common sense. But until then!...
Very interesting interview. I'm not sure that I share David's optimism though. The debate may be more open now than it was in 2004, but we are much further down the road. We are only a few decades away from large areas of England having non English majorities. If it is decided at that point that diversity doesn't work, then it will simply lead to the fragmentation of the country into smaller tribal states.
I'm already hearing calls for people to build a wall...
around London.
That's one massive whole in the Liberal world view: there's no "Plan B" - no backup plan for what to do if the irreversible change they brought about doesn't lead to the happy unified Liberal utopia they assumed.
Yes it is scary. I spend a lot of time travelling, particularly in Asia, and those societies have a very clear sense of their country for their people first. It is self evident to them and they are increasingly losing respect for westerners because we appear to have lost respect for ourselves and for the integrity of our own culture and nation. One day we will lose our homelands while everyone else will be building up theirs. We will be completely unprotected and vulnerable. It is globalisation for us and nationalism for everyone else.
@@person.X. yes, I'd guess those countries see the problems the experiment has caused in Western Europe and say we don't want to make the same mistake. Then it's a small step to resist other western ideas too. I see news from many countries suggesting significant shifts back to promoting historical national identity. India for example, closer to home Turkey under Erdogan, Putin etc
Kudos to Goodhart for coming up with the polite-sounding terms "Anywheres and Somewheres". That might make the public discussion easier to have.
Amazing. I should have read his book. That story about Gus O'Donnell and Mark Thompson is incredible. They're perfectly entitled to those opinions if they work for non governmental organisations but it's outrageous to act upon those views as the senior civil servant and the chief of the state broadcaster. In a sensible country it would be a national scandal for such men to be unelected chiefs of national institutions. Do they not even have any awareness that what they are doing goes against the majority will or do they see it as their role and right to subvert this will? Disgraceful.
I've just finished reading The Road to Somewhere. It is easily the most incisive political tract I have read for decades.
He makes a great point about the Labour party's support for large scale immigration. It doesn't make sense that they support the free movement of people involved in EU membership, which gives companies and large corporations a limitless flow of cheap labour, and is largely detrimental to the prospects of low skilled British workers the party was actually founded to give a voice to.
Andygb78 The working class now realise Labour is not acting in their interests. The Brexit Party are going to take a lot of Labour votes.
The Green Bike Rider I agree. They seem to be more focused on Palestine these days.
Well, clearly the Labour Party does not care about low skilled indigeneous workers anymore as they have a ready made set of new voters in the immigrants. So there is some ghastly logic to their stance on immigration. But what of the Tories? I can see that large scale immigration is good for their business buddies and so keeps the donations rolling in but what use is that when they are importing Labour voters? Where is the sense in that?
Myla because labour and Tory are just monikers. They both serve the globalist agenda despite the theatrics and attempts to rule their own domain in parliament.
No one gets into power in the west now unless chosen by their masters. Just puppets who have to push agenda against our will for the shekels. Once we leave the EU, we need to purge our banking, policing, and court systems of this tribe of globalists and start again with patriots. Only then will BRITISH people start to prosper, across the board.
Disgusting.
Fascinating about the Labour MPs saying to David, keep talking about it. But no doubt lambasting him in public. Douglas Murray had the same experience talking on a tv panellist show about Islam. A labour MP was feigning outrage. Then when the cameras stopped rolling, this same Labour MP patted Murray on the back and said "don't forget Douglass were all behind you!" Douglas asked perplexed "What was all that about out there?" The unnamed Labour MP said " Well what you have got to remember is my constituency has a large muslim population."
Douglas friend who is Iranian said "Ah! So you are a coward!" Sums them all up.
Same crap going on in the US for years now. No balls to say what allegedly they're all thinking.
Brilliant channel, Peter. You have a rare talent in that you let your guest be the focus of the chat/interview. Thanks
I'm probably way off base here, but I got the impression that David is attempting to ditch or at least redefine the left/right paradigm. All this, whilst hanging on to his own Liberal credentials because he still believes that those of the Liberal/Left are essenially the "good" guy's. I know, over simplistic, I get it!
One thing is for sure, Leftists have always enjoyed taking Maggie's "There's no such thing as society " quote out of context. In a 2010 article in the Telegraph, Charles Moore did the oppsite when he wrote;
" What Mrs Thatcher said was this: “I think we have gone through a period when too many children and people have been given to understand 'I have a problem, it is the Government’s job to cope with it’ … and so they are casting their problems upon society, and who is society? There are individual men and women and there are families, and no government can do anything except through people and people look to themselves first. It is our duty to look after ourselves and then after our neighbour … and people have got the entitlements too much in mind without the obligations.” A little further on, she repeated her point, using the exact words, “There is no such thing as society”.
To her opponents, this phrase captured her heartless individualism and her bourgeois smugness. “She was too blunt,” says McSmith, in the last paragraph of his book, “in telling people that in order to maximise economic efficiency, it was necessary to destroy many of the social ties that kept people in interdependency.” CM.
Now, I'm not sure if David Goodhart is taking Maggie out of context or he saying Leftists still do. Phew! 🤨
It’s funny how middle class cultural sensibilities seem to dominate the parameters of the conversation on this subject.
If I say in polite society, that it’s such a shame that the Chinese have taken over so much of rural Cambodia. Flooding the local government with investment so that they get the rights to build ugly casinos and hotels. Then gauche nouveau riche Chinese descend in the thousands. Often outnumbering the locals and treating them like serfs.
Middle class sensibilities instantly allows for understanding of the problem.
Similarly with gentrification.
The idea that “vibrant”, “communities of colour” might be transformed irreparably by an influx of wealthy white hipsters is understood as unfair. Undeniably a negative phenomenon.
But middle class sensibilities were forged by baby boomers, in the fire of the Sixties Revolution. Therefore middle class sensibilities are intrinsically connected to the civil rights movement, anti racism and anti Imperialism.
So an almost identical situation whereby an influx of Muslims utterly transform an English community. With the pubs closing, mosques opening and hostility from the Muslim newcomers (sometimes violent) for the permissive English culture and people they find themselves living with.
Despite it being almost an identical situation, middle class sensibilities are utterly unable to get out of the civil rights/anti racist groove.
Brown = good and sympathetic
White = bad and unsympathetic
There will never be a universe where middle class sensibilities could ever see white people on the right side of a grievance with brown people. God forbid, brown people as a problem in a white country. It’s utterly unthinkable.
So the conversation has to be stopped and the heresy nipped in the bud lest it crash our civilizational operating system.
And what is the operating system our civilization runs on?
Why it’s those same middle class sensibilities which were forged by boomers during the Sixties Revolution.
We need to update the operating system, and we need to do it fast.
It’s suicidal, in 2019 to be running on an operating system designed by boomers for the Twentieth Century.
A time before the establishment embrace of doctrinaire hardline victim feminism and minority identity politics, and way before pretty pedestrian technology such as pagers. Let alone our current reality of majority minority populations/super diversity and advanced technology like smartphones, high speed internet and social media. These are cataclysmic game changers.
The hardware has been replaced. Time to upgrade the operating system.
Honest John on the subject of rural Cambodia: the influx of money and development is much needed, many areas have lain fallow since the French. I think its still illegal in Cambodia for a non-native to own land (they lease it), which is common throughout Asia... the way the Chinese (over many generations) have dealt with that in Thailand was to marry Thais, leading to Sinothai families, Taksin is part-Chinese, half the Thais I know have Chinese blood.
A superb analysis, Sir! The British liberal establishment is so constrained by moral squeamishness and fears of 'racism' that they have become like those Victorians who refused to countenance any action against or even discussion of the problem of veneral disease because it might promote 'immorality'.
Remember back in the 1990s when Left-Liberals used to virtue signal for Tibet? Perfect example. Now the same people are shocked to discover the Dalai Lama is a Nationalist. "Well duh!" I fully expect the same people to one day be shocked to discover the Palestinians might not be keen on being outnumbered in their own lands by Africans (to say nothing of their attitude to homosexuals).
Jennifer Lawrence
Hahahaa of course the Dalai Lama is a nationalist. His entire existence for 70 years has revolved around the Tibetan people’s struggle for self determination.
Self determination used to be a left wing moral absolute and self determination is intrinsically nationalistic when applied to a nation, religion and or ethnicity.
Ditto for the left’s cause celebre, Palestine.
The left have only recently found themselves in serious cognitive dissonance, because the same logic which legitimizes the case for Palestine, Tibet and Kurdistan, also legitimizes the nationalistic political will for Brexit and reduced immigration to the West.
Had the Dalai Lama said that Africa cannot become European or Chinese, they would still be in love with him.
@@honestjohn6418 Exactly. The modern Left has a strong anti-White, anti-Western streak. If something is non-White = Good, victim, underdog, needs protection and promotion. If something is White = Oppressor, wicked, powerful, must be deconstructed, etc... It's all getting very tiresome.
I'm sure this man is very intelligent and has a lot to say, but I found his ponderous delivery, punctuated by "errm" every few seconds, very challenging to listen to... I'm afraid I gave up after a few minutes...
I imagine he's choosing his words very carefully so he isn't labeled a Nazi by the sort of people he has to work with. The bar for being convicted of thought crime is very low these days: see Morrissey.
Good video - always have a lot of time for David Goodhart. I think David has some very important points which are more insightful, clear-sighted, and comprehending than many other (also respected) contemporaries on this channel - but think if his delivery was more clear and direct, he could make a better case for his analysis. The anywhere/somewhere argument is one of the most pertinent of the day and I can directly relate to it, having lived in contexts in which both types of world view are dominant.
Thank you for posting this interview. It is always great to listen to intelligent, cultured debate.
Why does this interview feel like the verbal equivalent of a man walking across a minefield?
Yes. Who are the archetypal "anywheres"? I know it's apocryphal, but the saying attributed to Voltaire about knowing who's in charge by knowing who you can't criticize is apposite here.
Because he's terrified of being labelled racist
I was thinking in terms of being crushed to death by tons and tons of cotton wool.
Well it can't be nice wondering if you're going to wake up in the morning and see hit-pieces in the Guardian about yourself. The guy probably still has to work in London.
Because it is. -As evidence by the several victims already scattered about the place.
I just wanted him to stop umming.
I just made the same comment :-)
A torture.
As for the sins of the Empire, as a person of Afrikaner descent whose grandparents' farm was burnt down, animals slaughtered and women and children sent to the Middleberg concentration camp, I have no difficulty in agreeing that being part of the British Empire was tremendously more beneficial than being out of it. The guilt brigade do so not out of a deep love for the victims, but more out of hatred for those that benefited from assimilation.
He spoke a lot, but didn't really say much!
A highly gifted person with something important to say. However, in my opinion all those `erms` in his dialogue take away so much from the message he is trying to get across. To me it seemed he was having to make it up as he went along and it is the first New Culture Forum discussion that I have not been able to watch all the way through.
He’s putting me to sleep sorry
I'm struggling a bit with it too...
He comes across as a nice bloke. But, I certainly hope that his writing is more compelling thank his conversation.
@@BelloBudo007 Y his books are good but he is terrible as an interviewee
Yes! David Goodhart is excellent
Um, err, ahh, y'know, sorta, kinda.....
Spit it out man !
For a guy struggling with this for nearly two decades he hasn't distilled his arguments very well.
I agree entirely. He is unbelievably, unbearably inarticulate. It strikes me as an affectation to allow him to avoid stating anything too strongly and so wriggle out of any controversial opinions if attacked.
Mr Whaffle
This channel needs so many more subs.
Very interesting conversation. I don't think the anywhere party will get it and shift because they see they've pushed it too far. If you are an adult in power and you are petulant about losing it, there isn't much hope that sudden maturity will set in and you will realize that you might have over stepped.
Great interview!
We have no housing, Education, Health Care, Welfare of an adequate standard for those that are here! Not to mention Jobs, Pensions. Imagine you are 65 without a Job or a Pension and will not receive a Pension till late 2020 due to maladministration by your Government! Pension changes were supposed to be brought in slowly in 2020! but Tory Government pushed it through at an unlawful pace for Women born in the 1950's #Backto60! If you started work in 1969 at 15 and the Tory Toffs want you to carry on working. No room at the Inn I'm afraid and Charity begins at home. When we are sorted then we can help other People.
Sadly actual freedom seems to need to be constantly defended against those who would use their might to rule- whether it be physical force or mob rule through the govt. I think the point that constantly increasing diversity and the effort to make everyone feel welcome without asking them to change anything has led to the divisive cultural and political state of the west is poignant. And unfortunately I see no evidence that things are getting better, if anything the brexit and trump response from the left has been one of doubling down and in their own words resistance. And if there is to be no compromise, and no acceptance of other viewpoints and allowing people to congregate as they prefer, then there is only conflict and a fight for dominance left.
I think that I may apply to Denmark for citizenship! Their plan seems to be emminently sensible.
I get the impression the Danes (and also the Norwegians) have seen what is happening in nearby Sweden and it has got them rather worried.
The subject of race has only become difficult to talk about because (1) bourgeois liberals have ideologically imposed new taboos and (2) there is a lot of power and money to be extracted from grievance and those who do do will viciously lash out at anyone who threatens their cash cow.
We can pretend that there is no difference between an English person or a Indian Brit or Pakistani Brit but even the Left don’t pretend this. They are quite happy for minorities to identify based on their ethnic culture (they wrap it up in some postmodern BS about minorities being subject to structural oppression at the hands of whites).
Sometimes we do need to simplify the world and roll back layers of rationalisation and cognitive dissonance and view things in the plain light of day. There is such a thing as an Englishman (even if what constitutes an Englishman is open to debate) and it follows that there must be an ‘Other’; he who is not an Englishman. Definitions are (by definition) exclusionary in that they identify some common trait between disparate physical objects or concepts and categorise them using language which necessarily excludes things which lack some essential defining trait.
Exclusion is therefore a necessary precondition for meaning. An Englishman knows he is English. A Pakistani Brit knows he is not. By denying it we simply pretend that differences don’t exist which paradoxically makes it more difficult for us to coexist peacefully because the boundaries of difference are not adequately defined. If we cannot openly discuss those differences and negotiate them you simply sweep problems under the carpet / kick the can down the road etc. insert proverb of choice for prevarication.
What the current paradigm ultimately challenges is that the Englishman has any special claim to the land known as England. Reductio ad absurdum can be used to illustrate that a society which ceases to contain Englishmen ceases to be English. So if Englishmen are denied any claim to England they can’t even put forward an argument as to what extent it might be optimal for them to share England with non Englishmen. And so we can quickly see how we end up in our current mess.
Neutral British empire history. Abolishing of slavery 101
Shhh, you cannot speak of the benefits of English history. We must only focus on the bad stuff that no one living ever took part in, and make the current population pay and pay and pay and pay forever and ever and ever....
I was very much a 'somewhere' all through my life, but am increasingly feeling cast adrift. My home town isn't recognisable anymore due to 'multiculturalism', and has been superimposed with a totally foreign country. I find myself apologising to visitors for the state of the place. Immigrants, instead of aspiring to our British ideals, have dragged the place down to the third world levels of the home countries. I can quite understand how these metropolitan elitists are keen on unfettered immigration as being 'enlightened', but I wonder how many would still agree if they had to live amongst this deterioration.
The entanglement of race and culture was the downfall of white South Africa. The "culture gap" between black and white South Africans is becoming more evident by the day.
I am sorry, but I have given up after the first 100 hmms
Ummm....!
Are anywhere’s, anywhere’s as long as they are with other anywhere’s
In 2016 we had at last a PR vote. In 2016 we were finally heard. Just. Our absurd Cromwellian voting system perpetuates a complete inability to express our wants. Whole country proportional representation`s time surely has come.
'What is left for them to integrate to?' Good question. Basically I wonder whether the typical immigrant celebrates arriving in the UK for British culture/values OR is simply content with improving the economic status of his/her family.
David, the way you talk of the "educated classes" Is as though you think of them as the slightly better class!!!??
Teaching British History to the young may help, as sugggested .It should be taught as Commonwealth History beginning in the British Isles with the Roman Empire, every child loves playing Romans, then as trade began the spread into India and Africa and the South Pacific other lands were joined in the fortunes of Britain. There are also many heroic stories to be told as the British battled other Empires.French Dutch Spanish.. and so on. Fire the imaginations of the young.
It’s great in theory, but many teachers are already brainwashed into self hate and force this on students already. Changing the system must begin with the players.
Some of the worst degradations to our country seem to have been equally condoned by left and right. Such things as destroying tens of thousands of miles of hedgerows or knocking down historic city centres and replacing them with shopping malls. Therefore I am very disappointed with both anywhere and somewhere mentality. I wish the so-called somewheres would worry more about the heritage embodied in their physical environment. Who cares about national pride if the some of the things that are most precious in England are being destroyed, to make way for the latest bypass, or the latest clone of a high street chain...
Too hard to listen to...urm,urm,urm,urm,urm....ad libitum!
Do the Italians feel guilty for the roman empire , do the austrians or hungarians still feel guilty for their empire, do the bulgarians feel guilty for their empire, etc, etc, or is it just the British who should be made to feel guilty.
Don’t do it. You weren’t alive then and bear no responsibility for the good and bad things done by the BRITISH empire hundreds of years ago.
I feel no guilt, no shame, and no burden. Nor will I pay for the actions and offence of others.
If these people hate Britain so much, they can let the door hit them on the way out, instead of expecting us to accommodate their impertinent desire for subservience.
Who says that other formerly imperialist nations shouldn't feel guilty? Those conversations will be happening in their countries, in their languages.
I did watch and listen to the entire video as what he calls the somewheres and anywheres is such a brilliant concept. Something which really resonates with what I see in everyday life. However, f... h... what a pain it was listening to him. What the hell happens between his brain and his mouth as those thoughts are travelling through such a short distance?
My mind has opened up a little. I come from a left wing point of view, take issue with so much happening on the left at the moment and the anywhere nomenclature seems to fit so well in many situationsvand it is clearly the somewheres who are at risk in a very real sense at the moment in 2 particular ways. Firstly the job market is less able to offer you the security and sense of yourself that may have been there previously. The other thing pertinent to me and which I care for, is the breakup of community through estate demolitions through regeneration. Left wing Labour Councils are gung go in this regard, uprooting long established communities of all types religions and ethnicities, at the same time expressing outrage at the mistreatment of the Windrush generation by the government. That is the hypocrisy that can be seen on the left and it is shared by big organisations such as Amazon who are big on diversity but when they move their operations into an area and price everyone out. Very scary the pure globalist viewpoint.
Different worldviews and experiences lead to divergent opinions and values. Anywheres are generally out of touch and condemning somewheres on this basis.
Such a badly set out pseudo intellectual explanation of the term post liberal I could not continue listening. If you don't know your arguments wll enough to present them clearly then go away and simplify.. Worst interview yet. Muddle headed guy trying to sound clever
Also a class of pseudo or wannabee anywheres who think they are not fixed because they can travel. They dont want to realise they have a lot locally invested.
far too many ummms
He takes an age and gets nowhere. How can someone who spends his time composing sentences be at such a loss for words?
Goodhart still does not get it.
It seems you are still a little bit too much on the fence I'm afraid Mr Goodhart.
Sorry, couldn’t listen to any more ‘um’s after only 4 minutes in. I forced myself to listen to him on Triggernometry, painful though it was, as he has some interesting things to say. It’s much easier to read his book.
Almost painful to watch this good fellow speak and get his points across. I gave up.
Why do these speakers hmmm and hemmed and erhmm their way through every conversation??
"Ummmmmm...Ummmmmmm....Ummmmmm....Ummmmmmm....Ummmmmmm.....Ummmmmm.....Ummmmmm,.....Ummmmmmm"...etc
I won't bother with his book.
